Thursday.

The core exams are done. And now, Rachel has a lot of free time on her hands. Sinful has not scheduled a meeting yet to prepare Phase 3, so Rachel is free to do as she desires. She has been annoyed lately. She feels like she is not doing much and contributing less compared to her peers.

Though it is fortunate not an incident has occurred in SS Anne, she hopes that she could have done something.

Rachel wakes up early morning on her dorm, the very special penthouse reserved for those of high-ranking Cadets to enjoy. As a princess, she is someone who has known luxury. But she is not spoiled, unlike most rich young ladies.

The first thing she does after waking up is study. Review the information she has, and analyze whether she could have done better. Since there is not much to do for today, she decides to use half of the day to take it easy for now. She needs to recharge. After lunch, maybe she could wander around.

She prepares an easy breakfast with some cereal and milk for early consumption, and then, she operates her smartwatch to open a series of files forming hundreds of pages.

Rachel peruses the chapters of TNE and TRH while in her pajamas. She reads the chapters about herself specifically. It is uncomfortable at first to know for herself what it could have been. In TRH, it seems that she has become the ideal princess of England that she is pursuing to become. In TNE, she has become the compassionate princess with a ‘Knight in a shining armor’ who she then develops feelings for— though it involves a lot of misunderstandings— it is a story Rachel strongly appreciates.

“Hajin and me…” She blushes at the thought. She cannot imagine how childish her thinking process is from an alternate timeline. From what she hears, Hajin and Hyon have a lot of disagreements in recording TNE. Hajin must be embarrassed seeing himself from the perspective of a protagonist.

Rachel once joined to observe their recording process. Hajin is acting as the editor for TNE which Hyon writes as objectively as possible. Because of this, Hajin is forced to read TNE. In the meanwhile, Suho has the choice not to read TRH, and simply chooses to read just TNE.

According to Suho when Rachel asks him once why he is doing that, he answers that it is because it makes him look human. Rachel doesn’t really understand. Her peers are special after all.

Rachel rereads the part where she is first attacked by Lancaster, an old acquaintance of hers who has been both her Royal Captain of the Guards and her teacher in swordsmanship.

During the Monster Subjugation Exam, he should have appeared. But he didn’t. Rachel understands that it could be because of the domino effect of Hajin’s DDT. Sad and gloomy thoughts enter her mind.

Rachel feels terrible about remembering that particular memory in her childhood when she almost dies at the hands of Djinns… at the cost of Lancaster’s family. It is a memory that riddles her with guilt. Even now, she becomes more uncomfortable with knowing this as Lancaster’s motivation for revenge.

She realizes. She cannot take it easy. That is why, she decided to desperately study. After spending her morning rereading TNE and TRH, and reviewing the test papers she has from the written exam, she orders take-out for lunch.

When the food arrives, she quickly devours them like a hungry ghost lacking any grace. She doesn’t need to mind her appearance as no one is there to see it anyway. It is filthy, but Rachel decides to not even take a bath for today and just focus on her studies.

She won’t be going outside anyway.

Then, after eating, she returns to study.

Just right on time, a package arrives. A stack of paper is delivered from her door. They are exam reports of about 19 pages, each from a Cadet who has observed her Monster Subjugation Exam.

Rachel reads the names of the authors of exam reports and arrange them according to their rank, starting with the lowest rank. When she sees Hyon Hyung’s exam report for her, she set it aside to be last.

She should glean important details from a bystander’s point of view which she can take advantage of, thus she begins her serious reading.

Jake Benson. About Rank 400~500. [Rachel’s swordsmanship is divine in speed and grace. She easily overwhelms the Hell Hound which is reduced like a dog at her sword’s mercy…]

Rachel stops reading. She hates reading letters about ‘flattery’ the most. She reads the next series of exam reports only to become more disappointed. She only receives the more constructive reports that she can use from the higher rankings like from 100~20 which speaks of the difference in ranks from those who resort flattery.

Of course, there are also fairly high-ranking Cube cadets who resort to flattery. Rachel mercilessly discarded their exam reports. She finishes reading the exam reports of all her classmates and less than five has proven useful.

Rachel sets her eyes on Hyon Hyung’s exam report last. The reason for this is she is expecting constructive criticism from him which can help elevate her skills. She prepares her mind, mentally sharpening herself so as not to be hurt by criticism.

[The Hell Hound can eat excrement. How dare it attack Cube’s Goddess?

Rachel’s swordsmanship is so miraculous it can split the flames of hell! Her swordsmanship is like stars in the night. Her might is like the sun! Over encompassing! And eternal! But when she is subdued and on the defensive, she is like the night! Subtle and pervasive.

If Chae Nayun’s swordsmanship is third-rate, Rachel’s swordsmanship is first-rate! Rachel has technique and power. She is the strongest.

The Hell Hound may be terrifying for warrior types because of its Aura of Flames which makes it difficult for foes to come closer to it, but Rachel easily bypasses it by using dazzling footwork in combination with her lithe and dexterous swordsmanship. Rachel is the best.

I believe Rachel is the strongest, because of her theoretical foundation. Against monsters, she will be invincible no matter the difference in rank and situation. To be more accurate, she is the bane of all Monsterkind. Rachel is a warrior princess brimming with potential and abundant talent.

Rachel is a swordswoman whom everyone should respect for her ability. She possesses intellect far superior to most and has good instincts on what not to do. She is not extreme in her methods, and is conservative meaning she is someone who prefers the steady and safe route.

There is a saying that it is not strong who survive, but the opposite way around— it is those who have survived who are strong! I believe that Miss Rachel is the same! Her willpower alone to stay steady amidst the ranks of geniuses speaks of how strong her mentality is.

And despite being the most beautiful Cadet in all of Cube, and possibly the smartest, she doesn’t let it get into her head and maintains a humble outlook. Rachel is the model student everyone should admire and appreciate.]

Rachel is feeling perplexed, but at the same time… very angry.

“What the hell is this?”

She rereads the entire thing just to make sure but it really is what it is— an excessive paragraph after paragraphs of flattery. She could not believe she finished reading the entire thing. Her hand trembles in indignant fury.

Is she being mocked? This is an embarrassment!

It is incredible to think that she has taken Hyon Hyung’s Exam Report so seriously. Something has to be done. She wants to incinerate the Exam Report to ash, but she set the paper aside, and takes a quick shower.

After wearing her cadet uniform, she grabs the exam report, and angrily stomps her way outside the dorm. “I am definitely… going to feed this to him!” And maybe shout to him ‘Eat Shit’ while at it.

Rachel doesn’t feel like just clicking with Hyon. Their personality is too far apart! They say the opposite attracts, but that isn’t the case for Hyon. The guy is too hateful! He is too carefree, easygoing, and clowning too much.

He is annoying! He is not taking things seriously! Because of this, she cannot look at him as a responsible comrade despite his capabilities. In the back of her mind, she has this prejudice that he will be the death of her!

Maybe her bias of Hyon Hyung being a troublemaker and tasting defeat from him is to blame, but even with ignoring all of this feelings, it is beside the point that Hyon Hyung is an irresponsible individual who takes too much fun out of the things they are doing.

Rachel can totally imagine Hyon Hyung still having fun even in the face of the end of the world. That kind of guy Hyon Hyung is. Because of this, Rachel reaffirms her resolve that she will fix that.

“Yeonha, where is Hyon?” She contacts Yeonha through the audio call from her smartwatch.

Yeonha’s voice answers. “The library. Why?”

“Nothing,” Rachel replies shortly, tucking Hyon’s Exam Report inside her uniform.
