“Do you still think the Academic Club’s president, Yun Hyuk is the Devil? I am telling you, he is not. He might be a Djinn, but from my investigations, he clearly is not.”

“… How about Yoenha? Did you check her already? What do you think are the chances that the Devil’s Seed does not have a host yet?”

“I checked Yoenha already, she is clean… The chances that the Devil’s Seed doesn’t have a host yet are slim. As you are aware… The incubation time for a Devil’s Seed is quite lengthy…”

Rachel barely sees through the gap between the steel doorframe. She might not see the two of them, but that doesn’t stop her from eavesdropping. It is her curiosity about the top scorer of Phenomenon Realm Analysis’s recent exams. Perhaps, will she learn some secret learning technique of the sort? If not, maybe she’ll learn just a tiny about what her competitor is like.

Moreover, she is not doing this with ill intentions! She will never drag someone down so that she can take a rise over them. She is not that kind of person. She has pride as the royal princess of England.

Alas, what she learns of the person ‘Kim Hajin’ is beyond her mere expectations. Yun Hyuk? Devil? Djinn? Yoo Yoenha? Devil’s Seed?

Rachel understands something about Djinn, but why does this involve the president of the Academic Club, Yun Hyuk? And the daughter of the Guild Leader of Essence of the Strait, Yoo Yoenha?

“Is there a way for you to create items that can see through a Devil’s disguise through your authority?”

“I cannot…” “I am in.” “Wait… Are you… sure?”

Rachel continues to eavesdrop on their conversation. She thinks that there must be something wrong going on. If two people have to go to this lengths to keep their conversation secret, then they must be doing something bad.

“I should be going now. The library should still be open. I need to pick up some books…”

The other guy, the born-haired cadet as Rachel labels him in her mind, stands up and leaves for the door. This sends Rachel into a panic. With her superhuman abilities, she runs down the stairs. The rooftop is a good hiding place where people can have secret meetings. At first, she thinks of this as fiction, but no, it really has its merits.

“Huff… Puff…” She leans against the wall while harshly breathing for oxygen. Her mind for some reason goes back to the romance novel she is reading as a hobby. In there, the male lead and female lead make their secret meetings on the school’s rooftop.

Apparently, trysts are not the only kind of secret meetings out there.

But as a rational person, she cannot find it in her heart to accept information at face value. She cannot assume, lest she misunderstands. But no matter how she thinks about it. The implications of the two’s conversation are too much for her.

Anything that involves Djinns is not anything good. Devils no matter what folklore or religious belief’s interpretation, are also never good.

So there really must be something bad going on behind the scenes.

“What happened to you?”

Rachel looks over from where the voice comes from and reaches eye contact with Yoo Yoenha. Yoenha's curious eyes send Rachel into a spiral.

“Should I tell her?” Rachel debates in her mind on what she should do.

I return to the library to grab a few books. It will be a hassle if I am going to join another club as that will eat away at my time. I am already doing make-up classes with Cube's AI's aid. I guess I should give up my Reading Club.

It is not like this club is any special anyway as the library is open for all cadets to peruse. If the club has any advantages, then it is that its members have no restrictions on the number of books they can borrow.

If I manage to get my weak theoretical foundation to an average cadet’s level, I can abandon the Reading Club as I will not be needing the unlimited loaning privileges of its members by that time.

On my return to the library, I find out that Rachel is no longer there. It appears that she even leaves her own pile of books unattended. The librarian should be able to clean up after it. Well, it is one of the librarian’s jobs…

I pick up a few books that Cube's AI strongly recommends to me. I also pick up a few books I find keen interest. In the end, I borrow roughly seven books with different thicknesses.

I walk to the Detention Center to meet up with the AI. I have questions for it that need answering. Not academic questions, but personal questions.

As I enter the Detention Center, I feel nervous all too of a sudden. After all, I am not alone. Chae Nayun seats there while dozing off at a desk. Worse, she is not in the best state of mind.

I settle my pile of books to the side. “Hey, Nayun…” I softly call to her.

“Ebebebe…” Nayun cutely mutters. “Hajin… Don’t… Not their…”

Ugh… This bitch! What the hell is she dreaming about?

I know this is rude, but this calls for some really drastic measures. I squat beside her and angle my lips to her ear. Should I go soft or hard? Hmmm… I am a nice person, so I shouldn’t bully her too much. I blow at her ears sending Nayun to subdued snickering.

“Eheheheh~” Nayun grins like an idiot with drool over her mouth. “Uhhh… Hajin… We can't... but…”

She is hopeless. “You leave me with no choice.”

I inhale air in my lungs, and with one mighty shout, I scream. “THERE IS NO FOREVER! YOU WILL DIE A BITTER LIFE OF A LONER AND BE SINGLE FOREVER! YOU SON OF A BITCH!”

“WHO THE FUCK IS WHAT!?” Chae Nayun reacts with rapidity in shocked anger as she conjures a visible sword energy in her grip, and with one single motion, she swings it at me.

I can visibly see the agglomerated magic power brilliantly flashing in a whoosh, and on top of this are Nayun’s veins bulging from her forehead.

I dodge the attack by imbuing the effects of [Always Here] on myself and on the conjured sword of magic power. The power to blend with the surroundings impedes her accuracy at the expense of all of my magic power.

Enveloping her conjured sword of magic power seems to be too much for me. That is how heavy her [Sea of Magic Power] is to the point that it has become immovable.

I drop on my bottom with sweat dripping on my brows. I barely dodge that one. I feel a bit of my hair cut up from the front. “Chae… Nayun… relax…”

“Please do remind me to never screw with Nayun,” I beg my brain to remember this particular information whenever I find the fancy to trouble her.

Some semblance of reason returns to Nayun slowly realizing that she has done something gravely wrong. However, she simply ignores her wrongful attempt at my life after the fact by withdrawing her magic power and comfortably fixing her sitting.

I dare not point out her folly as the blame is as good as mine. I am aware that murder is a graver crime than verbally shouting at someone asleep, but come on… I still want my neck intact.

“Milady, the brightest moon that outshines even the sun! How may I help you?” I flatter her while turning on my knees and even go as far as to kowtow.

“Ugh…” She lets out a sound of disgust. “Stop with the bullshit, please? And I am sorry.”

Her sincerity easily reaches me as I stand up. “All good! So what does the chaebol of the Chae Clan want from this lowly peasant?”

“I swear… I can never like you…” Nayun swears at me with the middle finger. With a single flick, she sends a bullet of magic power to my forehead. I judge it not enough to kill me so I let it land.

“Ouch,” I cry. “Should I return on my knees?”

“No,” She outrightly refuses my offer. “I just want to hit you, because you are annoying. Anyways…”

Nayun stands up from her seat and slowly walks to the exit. “I am still distrustful of you, clairvoyant… But I will trust you this one time. I have submitted the club form. Hajin will be president, and you will be vice president. Tell him that he should take the lead, and I will try my best to support his efforts.”

I am speechless. She leaves me just like that, refusing to explain her motives. She might not let it show, but she also knows how to scheme in her own unique ways.

Information about the future is not just knowledge about chronological events. Knowledge about a person’s character is just as valuable as other kinds of information. In fact, the knowledge of someone’s character is a piece of far more valuable information than any knowledge that money can buy. To know a person personally is a too insurmountable task after all.

At the hands of the right person, this information can be lethal.

For example, like me. I intend to do no harm, however.

I am not someone who shies on using the character and motivations of others to work to my advantage, unlike Hajin who is trapped in a bubble. The only reason I am able to gather this dream team— Nayun, Suho, and Hajin— this early in the story is due to my manipulation. Of course, luck also plays a great role in this success.

But if I did not— manage to avoid Nayun’s interrogation through my muddying of the water, convince Suho of my Akatrina origins by taking advantage of his gullibility, and have Hajin voluntarily believe me through appealing to his emotional vulnerability— then I will not even reach this point.

“Sigh…” It is such a pain in the ass.

This point is not the last, however. I know that much. I settle on the pile of books I carry from the library. I should have a few more hours until curfew. I take the books about Devils in the middle of the desk.

There is a Devil for me to hunt.
