Wake up. Brush her teeth. Shower. Cloth her uniform. Attend the class. Visit Yoenha. Learn from Suho, or Nayun. Sleep. And then repeat. This has become Rachel’s new normal. In the foreseeable weekdays, she will be immersing herself in the routine for a long time.
While she might spend the future weekends differently from her weekdays, there is no doubt that she will continue to be extremely busy no matter what day of the week. Rachel will be busying herself with the current status quo, nothing too much for her, for the time being until a change occurs, or she is needed. Just like that, the days pass by.

It has been another week since Hyon Hyung’s release. To have a brief summary of the past week, there is one word to describe it— boring and stale. Rachel is not much for excitement, but the series of events that have happened to her is too much stimulus that it is natural for her to be slightly paranoid.
That aside there are also welcome developments.
Monday, Jonghak joins her as the new recruit of the club.
Tuesday, they finally have their first of the three-part orientation where they receive a Glossary of Terms to memorize.
Wednesday, there is a test that is prior to the orientation yesterday. Rachel aces it perfectly as it is only a memorization test.
Thursday, they receive that two-part orientation of the facility [Under Cube] where Hyon Hyung-ssi serves as their tour guide.
Friday, Rachel receives a sparring challenge from Jonghak. “I somehow won.” She realizes how precious Suho-ssi’s, and Nayun-ssi’s teachings are after the spar.
Saturday, Rachel receives training from Suho again, this time, they train with [Under Cube]’s technology. Jonghak joins the training midway after learning about Suho’s involvement.
Sunday, Rachel spends her time with Yoenha on more information-based research. She also plays with Evandel and has conversations with Yoenha. They have become quite solid friends.
In the past week, there has not been any form of an exam or any kind of lecture. To borrow the teacher’s words, it is self-study time which in Rachel’s opinion is quite irresponsible considering the prestige and repute Cube has. There is not even a word of the Combat Exam that is a staple in the first semester’s exams. According to the instructors, the Combat Exam will be delayed for some time.
Counting the time since the Djinn Attack, it has been two weeks in total.
Inside the Veritas Classroom, Rachel sits beside the unassuming Kim Hajin. Rachel’s thoughts on him are some kind of super genius hiding his abilities. The reason she chooses to sit beside him is because of idolization which is purely out of his abilities.
It involves nothing like having any romantic inclinations, but simply out of pure intellectual curiosity. Speaking of romance, Rachel really has no plan on encroaching on that topic, especially if it is Hajin as the man is clearly already taken.
From Hajin’s other side, Rachel sees Chae Nayun minding her own business by twirling her ballpen.
They are a curious combination. That aside, in Rachel’s eyes, they are quite a perfect match both in abilities and attitude. Rachel continues studying Hajin closely with pure intentions.
Kim Hajin has ranked one in Phenomenon Realm Analysis. On top of that, he possesses strength like no other which allows him to stand on equal ground with a powerhouse like Nayun and Suho.
“Good morning, class…” Entering for the first time in a long while in the classroom is Kim Soohyuk. “I will make it brief and frank. There has been a huge loss of staff and teaching personnel since the invention of Djinn Detection Technology. There are also the humongous increase in paperwork since a lot of Cube Cadets chose to drop off, because of the safety concerns.”
Rachel reads between the lines. Most likely, plenty of the drop-offs are Djinns who don’t want to get found out. However, the other argument about safety concerns is also most likely true. In fact, in Veritas Class, almost a third is missing involving Shin Jonghak.
“Cube has done its best on filtering out the criminal element, with strict background checks, and a due process of recommendations and tests. But as we all know, Djinns are able to blend into our society so fluidly it has become an impossibility to openly hunt them down.”
Kim Soohyuk has a weathered face, yet he musters all of his power to give a sincere smile. “For all of this, I thank you Kim Hajin. I thank you for surviving through it all, and carrying this new technology for all of humanity to benefit from.” The instructor bows in Hajin’s direction while standing in the middle of the class.
Rachel sees Hajin in a new light once more. She unconsciously claps at such high praises for her leader. The other Cube Cadets follow through, their claps are also sincere. Many of the Cube Cadets also give applause as a few of them are victims of the Djinns too.
Kim Hajin stands up as Nayun nudges him from the side. “Thank you, sir. I only did what is expected of me.” He returns to his seat as fast as he parts from it.
“No, you deserve more than just applause, but the country cannot serve your interest at the current moment.” Kim Soohyuk sadly adds, “Many of the Cube Instructors have been called to duty, thus explaining the great lack of manpower. I am among the few who chose to remain. Currently, many Djinns are being hunted with all of what Korea can muster with its every being. Few Djinns are even found in the Blue House, not to mention the Guilds around… In fact, we are now currently at war.”
Rachel understands the essence of Soohyuk’s words. Kim Hajin’s new Djinn Detection Technology has shifted the paradigm, and the checks and balances that have stabilized over time are tilting to an unprecedented rise in favor of Djinn's extermination.
Plenty will die. Both blood and ash will spread on the earth. Even England, Rachel’s homeland will be affected by this very severely. The only consolation Rachel has is she has the backing of the Devil Hunter’s Club.
The death of many Djinns will also be in England’s favor in the long term as the fall in Djinn numbers also suggests a fall in the criminal element. Rachel tries to look at the situation more positively aware that the biggest problem is not the Djinns but the Devils.
“Sir, I have a question!” A jubilant cry calls to Soohyuk, which is in strong contrast to the dreadful atmosphere. Rachel looks at the familiar brown-haired cadet. It is Hyon Hyung.
“Yes, cadet, what is it?” Soohyuk is good at maintaining his poker face with Hyon Hyung on the inquiring end. Hyon Hyung has a nasty reputation in the class for being a Djinn. Despite being cleared up by Hajin’s technology, he remains suspicious and a bad apple in the other cadet’s eyes.
Kim Soohyuk at least has the professionalism to play the part of an unbiased instructor, despite clearly being reluctant to entertain the troublemaker.
Hyon Hyung throws his question straight and sharp. “Since we are at war, will we be conscripted?”
Plenty of students show a look of fear, and only now does Rachel recall Soohyuk’s mention of war. They are currently at war against the Djinns. It has been like that for a long time, but it has dulled at some point. Now, that truth rears its ugly head to every cadet present.
In the presence of war, it is law to conscript Cube Cadets which doesn’t leave much for any cadet’s freedom. Thankfully, Soohyuk placidly clears up this fear with a few words. “No, the Association has different plans for Cube.”
Kim Soohyuk shows a rare smile of confidence. “There is a more specific reason why the Combat Exam is being delayed except for the lack of manpower… It’s a Band-Aid solution at its worst, but if done the right way, it will be the perfect remedy for humanity to spring back up again! The Cube’s upper brass has decided to increase the scale of the Combat Exam, and turn it into a festival!”
The cadets take in a sharp breath, and that is the same for Rachel.
It appears that Rachel’s new normal is going to end quite early.
