After resting for about ten minutes, Li Guanshan calmly warned Bai Luoluo not to be frightened by what lay ahead, as it was bound to be quite disgusting.

“Do you know what that thing looks like, brother?” Li Qianqian seemed incredibly curious about what lay ahead.

“How cute do you think something living on corpses and bugs would be?” Li Guanshan replied indifferently.

Li Qianqian made a disgusted face at his words.

While resting, Bai Luoluo talked to the system, asking if it could help him blur out anything too disgusting he might encounter later.

The system coldly refused Bai Luoluo’s request, saying, “Blurring is automatic, and I still want some blurring.”

Bai Luoluo asked, “What are the limits for blurring?”

The system’s tone carried a hint of sadness as it said, “Sexual content… violence… bloodshed… Well, even though bugs may not look good, they still adhere to socialist values. Socialism doesn’t discriminate against ugly appearances.”

Bai Luoluo: “…”

After their rest, the trio set off once more.

As Li Guanshan had predicted, something indeed awaited them ahead. Bai Luoluo heard rustling sounds coming from the adjacent room after walking a few steps.

In a completely silent base, hearing such noises was truly eerie.

Bai Luoluo instinctively took a few steps back, feeling something underfoot. He looked down and, by the dim candlelight, saw the ground covered with the carcasses of countless bugs.

He cursed silently.

Fortunately, Li Qianqian didn’t notice, or she would have screamed again. Following behind Li Guanshan, she walked into the adjacent room and saw the source of the noise.

“What’s this?” Li Qianqian saw a machine on the table emitting strange noises.

Bai Luoluo also walked in and, upon seeing the object on the table, looked puzzled. “Why is there a radio here?”

“What’s a radio?” Li Qianqian was extremely curious.

“It’s a very old household appliance…” Considering the history, this base had been abandoned for at least four hundred years. This radio, even if it wasn’t broken, wouldn’t have power.

Just as Bai Luoluo was about to explain, they heard a piercing scream from the radio, sounding like a woman witnessing something terrifying. The voice was hoarse and desperate, sending shivers down their spines.

Li Guanshan walked up to the radio, picked it up, and checked it. “No power?”

It dawned on Bai Luoluo that some radios used batteries. “The power source is on the back, under that cover… You can remove the cover, like this…”

After removing the power source, the radio stopped, and the room fell silent again.

Bai Luoluo breathed a sigh of relief.

“Where’s the person who turned this thing on?” Li Qianqian asked.

Li Guanshan remained silent, his gaze slowly shifting to the dark corridor.

Bai Luoluo suddenly felt a chill in the air and instinctively wrapped his clothes tighter around himself.

“Let’s go,” Li Guanshan said, “It should be just ahead.” He put the radio into his backpack and returned to the corridor.

This place had been abandoned for a long time, and every step on the floor stirred up a thin layer of dust. Bai Luoluo remained vigilant, sandwiched between Li Qianqian and Li Guanshan… he still couldn’t relax. He felt like something was watching him.

As they walked, the path widened, and they eventually reached a place that resembled a hall. In the center of the hall, numerous rectangular tables were densely arranged. Bai Luoluo walked in and realized that they were countless operating tables.

There were also black straps on the tables, which seemed odd.

Bai Luoluo quickly realized what these tables were for. He looked around and saw hundreds of them filling the entire hall. He said, “I think I got it wrong…”

“What did you get wrong?” Li Qianqian, still looking down at the tables, asked.

“This shouldn’t be an armory,” Bai Luoluo said.

“Huh?” Li Qianqian was taken aback.

“I’m looking at the surroundings, and it seems more like a biological laboratory,” Bai Luoluo calmly pointed out. “These beds were called surgical beds in the past.”

Li Qianqian was stunned for a moment before blurting out, “Then are there any guns here?”

Bai Luoluo sighed, “Probably.”

Li Qianqian straightforwardly said, “That’s all that matters. Who cares where it is? As long as there are guns, it’s heaven.”

Bai Luoluo had no words.

With so many surgical beds placed densely around, Bai Luoluo had a very bad feeling. What was worse, Motuo suddenly became restless.

Normally quiet, it suddenly began to roar into the empty hall, its voice full of agitation. It only acted like this when it sensed a threat.

Clearly, as Li Guanshan had said, there was something in the darkness.

Bai Luoluo examined the operating tables in front of him carefully, and a ridiculous idea popped into his head. He forced a laugh and said, “Uh, were there people tied to every bed here before?”

“What about the people?” Li Qianqian, somewhat slow to catch on, asked.

“They should… have been eaten,” Bai Luoluo’s voice trembled slightly.

Li Qianqian fell silent, and it was evident that both of them were contemplating what kind of creature could have eaten so many people and survived here for hundreds of years.

Bai Luoluo felt like crying and said to the system, “Wouldn’t it be better to watch a horror movie?” He wasn’t a fan of supernatural horror movies, but he was afraid of these creatures that could be tracked.

The system, feeling helpless, said, “At least these monsters can be killed, right?”

Bai Luoluo said, “No, they can’t die from the steadfast belief of a materialist.”

The system couldn’t help but admire Bai Luoluo’s logic.

Ghosts are something you either believe in or don’t. But monsters are different; they’re real and tangible, and even someone like Bai Luoluo, a socialist successor, would be helpless against them.

Motuo’s roar grew louder.

Li Guanshan and Li Qianqian stared into the darkness, and Li Qianqian’s expression changed. She rarely cursed, but now she muttered a curse word, “Damn it—”

Bai Luoluo couldn’t see much in the darkness and could only ask what was wrong.

“It’s so damn disgusting,” Li Qianqian said, looking like she was about to faint.

The ground began to tremble slightly, as if heavy objects were stepping on it. Bai Luoluo finally saw the creatures in front of him—they were monsters.

They resembled humans, but they were definitely not human. They were small in stature, crawling on all fours, baring sharp teeth. Their eyes had degenerated due to the lack of sunlight, leaving only two small holes.

Bai Luoluo almost cried out in fear.

Li Guanshan calmly said, “Can you two stop shaking?”

Li Qianqian said, “Wuuu… Watersource, are you shaking too?”

Bai Luoluo said, “I… I’m… not… shaking… ah…”

Li Qianqian thought to herself, You’re not shaking yet, but you’re shaking like you’ve been electrified.

There were about seven or eight monsters, led by a larger male. Bai Luoluo couldn’t help but notice why he identified it as a male… he reluctantly saw a certain dangling organ.

“It should be human,” Li Guanshan analyzed calmly. “Humans who eat corpses in the dark and give birth to offspring.”

Bai Luoluo couldn’t help but lean closer to Li Guanshan, looking at him with eyes that seemed to say, “Big brother, what should we do?”

“Kill them,” Li Guanshan said. “These creatures have no reason to live.”

Bai Luoluo quickly nodded in agreement.

“Li Qianqian,” Li Guanshan said, “Protect Jiang Shuiyuan.”

Li Qianqian nodded quickly. She was afraid that her brother would ask her to attack. Just thinking that these creatures used to be human made her feel extremely nervous.

Li Guanshan took out his gun and held it in his hand, expressionless.

The monsters clearly saw them as invaders and slowly surrounded the three, beginning to drool and growl louder.

Motuo charged forward.

Its speed was extremely fast, almost like a blur. By the time it reappeared, it had bitten into the neck of one of the monsters.

One of the monsters was killed by Motuo’s attack, and the remaining monsters showed fear. Clearly, they hadn’t expected their prey to be so difficult to deal with after seeing Motuo’s actions.

They must have some intelligence, and it wasn’t low, because after seeing Motuo’s actions, their next move wasn’t to continue attacking but to turn and flee.

Li Guanshan didn’t intend to let them escape. He waved his hand and erected a barrier of wind.

The monsters’ escape route was blocked, and they could only turn back to fight. But evidently, they were no match for Li Guanshan.

Because it was so dark, Bai Luoluo couldn’t see the specific scene clearly, but he could hear the whistling of the wind. Li Guanshan seemed to have merged with the agile wind, maneuvering among the monsters without being touched, swiftly dealing with them.

The strong smell of blood permeated the enclosed space, and Bai Luoluo felt uncomfortable. At first, he thought it was just his illusion, but he quickly realized that he was genuinely uncomfortable.

Bai Luoluo’s vision darkened, and his body temperature began to drop rapidly. The feeling of suffocation came over him again.

Bai Luoluo grabbed his neck, and his body slowly collapsed. He felt someone catch him in a warm embrace just before he completely fell.

“Uh…” The hypoxia-induced hallucination made Bai Luoluo unable to see clearly. His consciousness became increasingly blurred

, and he eventually passed out completely.

Bai Luoluo dreamed that someone was kissing him.

It was a lingering kiss, with his tongue sucked and lips nibbled, and even his waist was constantly kneaded. He groaned and tried to push the person off, but his hands and feet were soon restrained.

“No… uh…” Bai Luoluo refused somewhat aggrievedly.

“You’re really disobedient.” There was a hint of helplessness in the man’s voice, and Bai Luoluo felt his earlobe being pinched. Then the kiss stopped.

Darkness persisted for a long time.

Bai Luoluo was licked awake by Motuo’s rough tongue.

He opened his eyes and saw Motuo’s face close to his, excitedly humming a few times when he saw Bai Luoluo waking up. Motuo then started rubbing his cheek against Bai Luoluo’s face with his head.

Bai Luoluo felt itchy from Motuo’s whiskers and weakly patted his head, saying, “Motuo, stop messing around…”

Motuo gently took Bai Luoluo’s finger into his mouth. His teeth were sharp, but he treated Bai Luoluo with extreme care, lightly holding onto it as if being coquettish.

Bai Luoluo asked, “Are you going to eat me?”

Motuo whimpered and released Bai Luoluo’s finger, then began licking Bai Luoluo’s face. Bai Luoluo’s entire face was moistened by Motuo’s saliva. He scratched Motuo’s chin and said helplessly, “You’re too heavy… Get off me quickly.”

Motuo was half-lying on Bai Luoluo’s body. Upon hearing this, he lingered for a while before reluctantly moving away from Bai Luoluo.

Bai Luoluo coughed as he got up from the ground and found himself lying in a room, still covered in thick clothes.

“Where are they?” Bai Luoluo asked. “What happened to me?”

Motuo wagged his tail and looked towards the corridor, then howled.

Bai Luoluo couldn’t understand what he was trying to say and hesitated, “Did they just leave?”

Motuo patted the ground with his paw, seeming to answer Bai Luoluo’s question.

Bai Luoluo said, “Oh…”

Motuo slowly crawled onto Bai Luoluo’s legs and rested his head on Bai Luoluo’s abdomen, staring innocently into Bai Luoluo’s eyes with his beautiful green eyes.

Bai Luoluo gently tugged at his whiskers and asked, “Are you trying to keep me warm?”

Motuo whimpered.

Bai Luoluo was indeed very cold. He was already wearing thick clothes, but the cold seemed to penetrate through them directly into his bones.

Motuo’s body temperature was very high, and lying on Bai Luoluo did warm him up a lot. The only downside was that the big cat was too heavy, and Bai Luoluo couldn’t move with him lying on top. But the important thing was to stay warm; it was better than freezing to death.

Just as Bai Luoluo was thinking this, someone walked in. Bai Luoluo looked closely and saw Li Guanshan, whose expression didn’t look very good.

Li Guanshan said, “Awake?”

Bai Luoluo nodded slightly, feeling a bit embarrassed, “Sorry, I’ve caused you trouble.” While others were slaying monsters, he, the bystander, had fainted first.

“It’s okay,” Li Guanshan said lightly. “There are a lot of shadow insects among those monsters. It’s normal for you to be affected since you’re physically weak.”

As Li Guanshan approached, Bai Luoluo noticed that his lips were bleeding. He asked with concern, “Are you injured? Is everything else okay?”

Li Guanshan’s expression became somewhat strange as he looked at Bai Luoluo. He slowly said, “It’s okay.”

Bai Luoluo felt a bit unreal under his gaze and asked tremblingly what happened.

Li Guanshan shook his head and said, “You’re not suitable to go further inside. Let Qianqian and Motuo take you out.”

Feeling even more guilty, Bai Luoluo said he didn’t need that, just Motuo’s help would be enough.

Li Guanshan was about to say something, but Li Qianqian also came back. She was excited to see Bai Luoluo awake and said, “Watersource, you finally woke up! You don’t know how worried I was about you. I was afraid you wouldn’t be able to catch your breath and just leave like that.”

Bai Luoluo said, “Is it because of the shadow insects that I felt this way?”

Li Qianqian said, “Yeah, yeah, did you dream of anything strange? Shadow insects have this ability…”

Bai Luoluo embarrassedly said he dreamed of someone kissing him, and in the end, he said he didn’t dream of anything.

Although Li Qianqian was a bit skeptical, she didn’t continue to ask.

Bai Luoluo asked if all the monsters were dead.

Li Qianqian said casually that one ran away, but it didn’t matter much. Most of them were killed by Li Guanshan.

Bai Luoluo said, “Killed…?”

Li Qianqian said, “Yes, killed! Killed!”

Bai Luoluo: “…”

Li Guanshan gave Li Qianqian a tap on the head, sneering, “Li Qianqian, I see you’re itching for trouble again.”

Li Qianqian cried and said, “I just have a low level of education, why do you have to hit my head? Why do you discriminate against the uneducated?”

Bai Luoluo couldn’t help but laugh.

“Watersource, do you want to go back to the entrance or continue following us?” Li Qianqian’s suggestion was different from Li Guanshan’s. She said, “Since most of the monsters inside have been eliminated, I think it’s safer for you to continue following us. Who knows what might happen at the entrance.”

Li Guanshan frowned and said, “I’ll let Motuo follow Watersource.”

Li Qianqian said, “Oh, who knows what Motuo will do to Watersource.”

Li Guanshan: “…”
Motuo: “…”
Bai Luoluo: “(⊙v⊙)…” Why couldn’t he understand what they were saying?

Li Guanshan said, “That’s why I want you to go and accompany Watersource.”

Li Qianqian said, “Well, you should ask Watersource for his opinion first.” After saying this, she looked at Bai Luoluo with eager and affectionate eyes, saying, “Watersource, bravely speak up. What do you really think?”

Bai Luoluo felt a bit creepy under her gaze and said, “So… so should I continue following you guys?”

Li Qianqian said, “Hehehe.”

Li Guanshan gave Li Qianqian a stern look and finally said to Bai Luoluo, “It’s up to you.”

Bai Luoluo felt like these two siblings were competing over something, but he couldn’t figure out what exactly.

Motuo was unhappy and growled at Li Qianqian. Li Qianqian also squatted down, showing her row of small white teeth to Motuo, saying, “I won’t let you, come bite me instead.”

Before she finished her sentence, she started crying, saying, “Li Guanshan—your cat bit my leg.”

Li Guanshan sneered, “Isn’t this what you asked for? I’ve never heard such a strange request in all my life.”

Li Qianqian could only cry and go to Bai Luoluo, saying, “Watersource, he bit me…”

Bai Luoluo was speechless and could only pat Motuo’s head to make him let go.

After Motuo let go, he looked very aggrieved, even his ears and tail drooped down, whimpering.

Bai Luoluo said, “Motuo, be good, don’t bite people casually.”

Motuo licked Bai Luoluo’s hand, then actually rolled his eyes at Li Qianqian.

Bai Luoluo initially thought he was hallucinating, but upon closer inspection, he found that Motuo indeed rolled his eyes at Li Qianqian.

Bai Luoluo hesitated, “Motuo… you’re so smart.”

Li Qianqian angrily said, “Of course he is…”

Before she could finish, she was interrupted by Li Guanshan’s expressionless voice, “Rest for ten minutes, then continue.”

Li Qianqian pouted.

In the end, Bai Luoluo didn’t hear what Li Qianqian wanted to say.

Originally, Bai Luoluo wanted to ask how he had been revived, but seeing the atmosphere between Li Guanshan and Li Qianqian, he felt too embarrassed to ask, so he gave up in the end.

After resting for ten minutes, the three of them set off again.

Bai Luoluo’s legs still felt a bit weak, but Li Guanshan considerately slowed down the pace for him. He also said that if Bai Luoluo really couldn’t walk anymore, they could let Motuo carry him.

Bai Luoluo said, “No need, I’m too heavy…”

Li Qianqian said, “It’s not about being heavy or not. Look, Motuo is so short. If you sit on him, you’ll still have to use your feet to move along, like riding a child’s bicycle.”

Bai Luoluo had no words in response, and Li Qianqian was slapped by her brother for her remark.

After killing the group of monsters, they were forced to return because of Bai Luoluo’s sudden condition. Now, Bai Luoluo stood again in the hall full of beds.

Most of the beds in the hall had decayed, crumbling into pieces upon the slightest touch. Bai Luoluo asked about the bodies of those monsters.

Li Qianqian said they had all been burned to ashes by her brother.

Bai Luoluo nodded.

After passing through the hall, they came to a tunnel entirely made of glass.

But the glass was too dirty to see through, so Bai Luoluo could only vaguely see blurry images inside through the cracks.

“It should be a laboratory,” Li Qianqian said. “I saw the remains of strange creatures inside.”

The three reached the end and saw a half-open door.

Li Guanshan kicked it open, and the door fell with a bang.

A huge laboratory lay before them, but Bai Luoluo didn’t have the mood to look at it because right next to the door, there were countless piles of bones.

Most of these bones belonged to humans, densely packed around the walls like a bone wall.

“It must be the people on the beds in the hall just now,” Li Guanshan said.

Bai Luoluo said, “… So, are these leftover bones for eating?”

Li Guanshan nodded.

Hearing this, Bai Luoluo couldn’t help but feel his stomach churning.

Li Guanshan said, “If you want to vomit, just do it.”

Bai Luoluo calmly said, “It’s okay, I swallowed it.”

Li Guanshan: “…”
