When I wake up, my watch says 5pm. Based on the movement of the sun and moon, the amount of hours in a day in this world seems to be similar to Earth, so it’s quite easy for me to get adjusted.

Looking around, Sophia and the children are still asleep. I stretch my muscles, shaking off the stiffness from sleeping on the floor, and decide to utilize this quiet moment for some inventory. I zip open my backpack and take out my items. Before getting summoned here, I didn't really know where I would end up. It could be a freezing cold place like the North Pole, or it could be a scary jungle with toxic plants and dangerous beasts. So, basically, I just prepared myself like a survivalist.

Holding the item list and a pen in my hand, I start checking.

1. Meds and first aid kit.

From painkillers and antiseptics to bandages and stitches, it's ready for almost any medical emergency one might encounter in the wilderness or on a battlefield. Everything is placed into a large tin box, compact and organized.

2. Smart Watch:

This isn't just any smart watch. Beyond timekeeping, it comes equipped with a compass, altimeter and barometer. It's durable and water-resistant. Luckily, the compass seems to work fine in this world. The altimeter and barometer however, I don’t know if they are still accurate or not. I will need to find a way to calibrate them later.

3. Lighter:

A trusty black Zippo with a simple design. Windproof, waterproof, it ensures that I can start a fire anywhere, in almost any condition.

4. Ammos:

Tucked away at the bottom are boxes of ammunition. These rounds are enhanced bullets with the latest technologies for my pistols. Some are regular, some are a little bit special, while the others have strong neurotoxin or tranquilizing agents in them in case the situation calls for them. A hundred bullets in total, minus two, so it's ninety eight now. I need to use them sparingly.

5. Knives:

I have two different knives. First one is an army knife, its black matte finish looks simple, but the knife is a beast. Made of high carbon steel, the blade cuts through most materials. Its balanced weight makes it effective both as a tool and a weapon. The other one is a swiss knife, a classic multi-purpose tool with a blade, screwdriver, and tiny scissors.

6. Multi-tool:

Slightly bigger than the Swiss knife, this tool boasts pliers, wire-cutters, a saw, and several other essentials in one compact design, indispensable for fixing and crafting.

7. Survival Axe

The name is self-explanatory. It’s a one handed axe that can be used as both a tool and a weapon.

8. Paracord bracelet:

It looks like a simple woven bracelet, but when unraveled, it transforms into several feet of durable paracord, capable of supporting heavy weights.

9. Water filter:

This portable filter, resembling a thick straw, purifies almost any water source, removing harmful bacteria and contaminants, ensuring I have access to clean drinking water at all times.

10. Rations

Highly nutritious bars that can replace meals. They are all high fat and high protein, because I need to pack as much nutrients as possible. However, because of this, they are not really the best tasting ones.

And the last one…

11. My phone

Obviously, there’s no signal in this world. Without the internet or service, there’s not much it can do. But it can be a handy device for storing my collected information, and I also have some games to kill time when I’m bored. Basically, even with 90% of its main function not working, still a must have device.

And on top of that, all my electronics are powered by nuclear batteries, so they can last for a couple thousand years. It’s very convenient. There’s no need to charge.

Then, just as I finish my inventory, I hear someone waking up. It's Yumi. Her face is a mix of confusion and anxiety. She must be wondering why she's in an unknown cave instead of Tokyo.

I give her a moment to calm down before explaining everything.

Surprisingly, Yumi handles it well. She cries for a bit, clearly upset because she misses her father. But it is what it is; there's no way to take her home now. I fear that she might harbor resentment towards Sophia, but while there is some animosity, she acknowledges that Sophia is on our side now.

Yumi is such a good girl, and I make a silent promise that I would do my best to protect her.

Then, Sophia is the next to wake up. She and Yumi exchange a few words—nothing serious.

I then share my food with both of them. As expected, Yumi doesn't like the meal-replacement bars, but Sophia loves them. She's never had anything resembling chocolate before, so it's a treat for her.

Meanwhile, Hana is still asleep, but I estimate she'll wake up soon. That's a good thing; I'm not very good at dealing with children aside from my sister, so Yumi can look after her.

Then, with everything prepared, Sophia and I change clothes and leave the hideout, leaving the children behind for their safety. Wearing hooded cloaks, we head to the city. There’s something very important we need to buy, and the only place where we can get them is from the black market.
