As we approach the grand library, its majestic presence immediately captures our attention. It’s truly a symbol of knowledge and wisdom, with towering spires reaching skyward, adorned with intricate carvings that shimmer in the sunlight. The building, constructed of fine white marble, stands out brilliantly, its surface reflecting light in every direction.

“Wow, look at those pillars!” Yumi exclaims, her eyes wide with awe as she gazes upon the golden colossal structures framing the main entrance. Each pillar is a work of art in itself, intricately designed with mystical symbols and patterns.

Surrounding the library are lush gardens, filled with hundreds of different kinds of flowers and trees, creating a tranquil oasis in the heart of the city. There’s also a big pond. A cobblestone pathway leads us toward the grand double doors, crafted from rich, dark wood and embellished with golden accents.

“Is this really a library? It looks more like a palace!” Yumi marvels, her voice filled with excitement.

“Yes, dear,” Sophia replies. “Common people rarely go to the library, after all. Access to this place is only available for those with a Green Rank or higher. As you can see, there are twenty-three floors. We will only be permitted to enter the first three floors.”

“Oh? And how many floors can I access?” I ask.

“With your Crimson Rank, you can go up to the twentieth floor. The last three floors are reserved for the royal families only.”

As the doors swing open, a cascade of natural light from arched windows envelops us, casting the vast, open expanse of the library in a soft glow. Vaulted ceilings rise above, their frescoes of myth and legend so vivid they almost seem in motion. Our footsteps are hushed by the plush red carpets, and the tranquil atmosphere is a silent invitation to lose oneself in thought. Towering bookshelves, rich with books and scrolls, line the walls.

A woman strides toward us, her elegance unmistakable in an impeccably tailored suit. Her large glasses spark a scholarly vibe, and her short, ginger hair adds to her composed, intelligent aura.

“Good morning! Welcome to the Grand Library of Vera. My name is Catherine,” she introduces herself with a courteous nod. “May I have a look at your identity badges, please?”

Sophia, ever prepared, promptly offers our badges.

Catherine carefully examines the badges, ensuring their authenticity. “Thank you very much. Mrs. Crowhart,” she addresses Sophia with a respectful tone, “you and your daughters are granted access up to the third floor. And Mr. Crowhart,” she turns to me, “with your Crimson Rank, you are permitted to go up to the twentieth floor. Please be aware that there will be personnel checking identity badges at the staircase leading to the higher floors. Kindly present your badge to them for access. Enjoy your time in the library.”

Catherine's nod is our silent permission to explore. As she steps aside, I’m already scanning the high shelves, my curiosity piqued.

This is a big huge space, yet I only see around ten people in here. Sophia is right, the normal people don’t really ever go to the library. Picking up a random nearest book, I take a quick look inside. It’s a cookbook, and as expected, it’s written in Lorelian, the common language used in this world.

As Sophia explained earlier to me, this is the language created by a god. In the dawning ages of a magical realm, the benevolent gods observed as the nascent races struggled to communicate, their language a jumble of disjointed sounds and gestures. Eldraen, the compassionate God of Wisdom, decided to bless them with Lorelian, a universal language of clarity and elegance, to unite and elevate all beings. Infants older than five months miraculously began to speak and comprehend words, while everyone gained the ability to read and write in Lorelian by age ten. This divine gift transformed society, fostering understanding and unity across different races and cultures, and leading to a flourishing of knowledge and shared wisdom throughout the realm.

Upon arriving here, we too were blessed with the ability to understand Lorelian. However, Hana will have to wait until she's ten years old before she can read her first Lorelian word.

“Yumi, Hana, can you help me with something while you browse the books?” I ask the kids. I want to gather information as fast as possible, so I will need them.

“Yes?” Yumi answers.

“You know how to use this, right?”

I then reach into my pocket and produce something unique from Earth.

“Wow! A smartphone!” the girl exclaims.

“Shh! We must be quiet; this is a library,” I remind her softly.

“Oh, sorry!”

“Anyway, here's what I need you to do,”

I proceed to explain my plan. Gathering information will be much quicker if I have some assistance. Using my smartphone, they can scan the books on the first three floors, and I can upload the data to my system later. Besides, as any other modern kids visiting the library, they may get bored at some point, so it’s actually a good thing that I have some task for them to do.

“And which books do you want me to scan?” Yumi asks.

“Any book, anything that catches your eye.”

“Yes, leave it to me!”

“If you are bored, you can ask Sophia to take you outside for some fresh air or to explore the city.”

“And Sophia,” turning to Sophia, I say, “Could you keep an eye on them for me? I plan to explore the higher floors and may spend most of the day here. If I don’t return by sunset, feel free to take them back to the tavern.”

“Yes, have a great day.”

Sophia nods.

With everyone briefed, I turn to my mission.

“Ruby,” I command silently.

“Initiate rapid scan mode. Record all the text that comes into view.”

With Ruby's help, I'm ready to archive the wealth of a world’s learning into my mind’s expanse.
