Stay calm, Jack, stay calm…

It has been so long since I last felt this way. Fufu is not only Yumi's pet but also a great friend. Yet, that guy dared to hurt him. I'm tempted to draw my guns and make him eat bullets right away, but I can’t afford to act recklessly now. Given his build and equipment, I doubt my Desert Eagles could harm him from this distance. To use my guns effectively, I need to get close enough to fire at point-blank range, ensuring he's dead with the first shot.

Luckily, Fufu is not dead yet. He's now in his spiritual form. If I can retrieve him from Carmien, he will be able to recover by possessing a different body. There’s still hope.

“Jack,” Sophia tugs at my sleeve. “I remember now, I know that guy! He's Duke Eldridge’s strongest guard. They call him… The Red Ogre.”

As she speaks, I can feel her whole body shaking with fear, much like when she first saw Bromrik.

“The Red Ogre huh?" I murmur. "Is he stronger than the Chainmaster?”

“Way stronger! His level is at least 150. I... don’t think we stand a chance…”

“Even so, we have no choice but to fight, don’t we?”

There’s only one way out of this situation, and that is to defeat him. But if he’s as strong as Sophia says, then how?

Suddenly, the Red Ogre points his big finger towards me. “Hey, fox man,” he starts, his voice deep. “If you can withstand five minutes, I will let you and your friends go.”

“Wait! You cannot do that!” Carmien exclaims. “The Master said to kill him at all costs! Are you disobeying–”

“Huh? You have a problem with that?” The man turns.

Carmien’s face instantly turns pale, and he shakes his head.

“Good, then keep your fucking mouth shut,” Red Ogre commands, before turning back to me. “And you,” he points at me again, “If you dare to run away, I’m going to murder everyone in that house. Don’t any of you try to sneak out either. This spirit user,” he gestures towards Carmien, “will know if you try anything funny.”

Shit…

I was thinking about having the children sneak out while I hold that guy off for as long as I can, but with that statement, he has thwarted my plan.

I’m about to agree to fight him when Sophia stops me. “Jack, if you can run, just run. He’s just playing with you. You cannot trust him! He doesn’t intend to let any of us live!”

“Ah, I know,” I reply. “Thank you, though.”

That guy probably knows that with my speed, I could easily escape if I abandon everyone here and run away. His real intention must be to give me false hope, tempting me to fight him head-on.

“But I can’t do that, Sophia,” I reply. “If something happens to you and the children, I can’t bear the thought of you haunting my dreams every night. And most importantly, Anna wouldn’t approve of such a cowardly big brother, right?”

I then step forward.

“Wait! What are you doing?” Sophia's voice is urgent as she tightens her grip around my arms, pulling me back. “I’m being serious!”

But I gently remove her hand from my arm.

“Oh?” The Red Ogre grins. “So, are we going to fight now?”

“Yes, but you have to keep your words!” I demand. “If I’m still breathing after five minutes, you have to let everyone go, no matter what. And that includes the nature spirit!”

“Sure thing,” he replies, his grin widening.

A few moments later, the duel begins.

As he takes off his hooded cloak, I can see his body clearly, with muscles bulging out under his clothes. Damn! He’s big! His arm alone is bigger than my leg, and his legs are like tree trunks!

I swallow hard. I've beaten far bigger humans before, but never have I felt so intimidated. His body... Are such genetics even possible? He doesn’t wear any armor though, but I guess that means he’s extremely confident about his body defense.

“So, what are the rules?” I speak.

“Rule? There are no rules,” the Red Ogre says. “Use whatever the hell you want.”

“Alright.”

Sapphire is ready. I’m ready.

As for him, his overconfidence is evident. Will I able to use that to my advantage?

I will try.

My Desert Eagles are reloaded.

“Erm… when the coin hits the ground, you may begin,” Carmien says nervously.

He flings the coin skyward.

“Sapphire, it’s time.”

Clink.. BOOM!

The moment the coin kisses the ground, the man lunges at me.

Even with time dilation ramped up fivefold, he’s a blur of speed. And did he just freaking break the sound barrier!?

I sidestep at the last instant, a mere hair's breadth from disaster.

BOOM!!

Red Ogre’s fist smashes the ground, shattering it like brittle glass. A split second's delay, and I'd have been in pieces too!

However, this is it. This is my golden opportunity!

Point-blank. Enchanted bullets, primed in my Deagles.

He’s fast, but I don't think he can dodge this!

BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!

The Deagles roar, thunderclaps in my hands, ten rounds fired in rapid succession.

The man staggers, a few steps back.

But then...

I freeze in shock.

Did he just… catch my bullets with bare hands!?

“Oy, oy! Bringing a gun to a fight?” the Red Ogre taunts, his laughter shaking the very ground. “Haha! What a throwback! Haven’t seen one of these in ages!”

What the...?

My heart is now racing, pounding in a frantic rhythm.

Not only is he unharmed, he knows what a gun is too?
