cw: some grotesque description

“It was not a busy road, so no one witnessed the accident. After a while, an old man living nearby reported it. When I looked up the vehicle, Mr Kang came up.”

Detective Park bared yellow teeth and clicked his tongue. He guided Kang Giha without any formalities, and it was worth it slipping some money into his pockets once a month. Kang Giha followed him and glared at the end of his hallway. Just a few minutes ago, he couldn’t believe his ears after receiving a call from Detective Park. But he wouldn’t believe it until he saw it for himself. The footsteps of his men also followed. The place where Detective Park stopped was in front of the morgue. When the door opened, a stench that turned his stomach hit his nose.

“This one. It’s so badly burned, can you recognize it?”

Detective Park walked inside and lifted the white cloth. One, two, three. All were charred corpses. All at once, the scalp shrivelled up from the burns and the eyes, nose, and mouth caved in, making it unrecognisable. Kang Giha desperately balanced his dizzy spirit. He moved his pupils quickly. What about Yaba? What about Yaba? That was all he could think about. Detective Park covered his nose and mouth with a towel.

“Estimated time of death was about two hours ago. Judging by the damage to the car, the tire marks on the road, and the smashed median strip, it’s very likely that it was hit by a larger vehicle. The car overturned, but the direct cause of death were burns from an engine explosion. It died out because of the rain, but it was almost burnt completely… Whew! Whew! Fuck. I’ve never seen anything so terrible in my 15 years as a detective!”

Detective Park turned his head and let out his nausea. Then he squinted at the innermost corpse.

“Oh, this one’s in the back seat, but his head got caught in the car door and his mandible was completely broken.”

His vision went blank. Yaba always only sat in the back seat even if you stuck a knife to his neck. The reason he hasn’t collapsed yet is because he hasn’t given up hope. Kang Giha squeezed out a voice.

“… May I take a look?”

“What, will you recognize it looking at it now? The mandible is damaged, so it’s a bit difficult to compare teeth, and the burns are so bad that it’s impossible to get fingerprints. Gene identification is complicated because it has to be handed over to the National Forensic Service.”

Detective Park seemed to want to quickly deal with the deaths of people from the streets. Kang Giha moved my legs and approached the corpse. The surface of his irregular skin turned dark brown and oozed fluid. The muscles in his face and body were so tight that he couldn’t tell which part was the front if it weren’t for the fact that he was lying facing the ceiling. It was not a human body, but a whole piece of cooked meat. The nausea made him gag.

Kang Giha tore off the cloth. His lower body was less damaged than his upper body. The height and body were similar to that guy. He brought his hand to his groin and groped his centre. He was burned, but his scrotum was clearly empty. No, no. It’s a coincidence. His bones trembled as he searched for a resemblance to him.

He put his hand on the back of his corpse and the nape of his neck. At the slightest movement, the head swayed as if it would collapse. He thrust his fingers into the back of the head and poked around the inside for a long time. Then, he slowly pulled out what was caught in his finger. The knuckle-sized metal was almost melted and unrecognisable. But the chip was unmistakable.

Kang Giha covered his mouth with his hand, like a violent seizure. His legs faltered from the rush of dizziness. He grabbed the chip until it shattered and cursed with a groan. Detective Park hinted.

“You should calm down a bit. I heard that the coalition faction turned the store into a mess before? Their backing is so powerful that even prosecutors won’t touch them.”

No matter who did it or for whatever reason, his head could not think. There was only pain that felt like the skin was torn one by one. Just two hours ago, he was eager to reprimand Yaba about the missing DVD when he returned. He should have stopped time then. At that moment, something crossed his mind. He recklessly picked up Yaba and went outside.

“Mr Kang! What are you doing?! The investigation is not over yet… hey!”

Detective Park rushed out. The subordinates waiting in the hallway stopped Detective Park in the blink of an eye. He hugged Yaba and exited through the back door.

Arriving at the accommodation, Kang Giha went inside, his legs felt heavy as if wading through a muddy swamp. The singers who were resting were taken aback by the sudden uninvited guest and were even more shocked to see what the uninvited guest was hugging.

He kicked Cocaine’s door. The owner of the room was brushing his hair as if he had just washed up. Kang Giha sat down in front of him. If Cocaine was the perfect healer! If he was the owner of a voice that invites even those who have crossed the river of death… !

“… Save him.”

It was a voice close to pleading. Whether he stole the DVD or whatever, it doesn’t matter. If only he would come back… Cocaine’s initial reaction was simple surprise. Then, his face turned blue at the gruesome body held in his arms. Cocaine did not recognize the corpse in front of his eyes. Kang Giha screamed.

“Help save him! Sing right now and save him! Right now!!”

Cocaine dropped the towel. Eyes stained with astonishment, instead of singing, a bizarre groan flowed.

“… This… Yaba… What?”

He heard the sound of someone sucking in a breath behind me. Inside, his blood turned cold enough to freeze. Kang Giha grabbed Cocaine by the collar.

“A few hours ago… he was in an accident… You can save… him right! Hurry up and sing! Hurry!”

Cocaine could only shudder. Just as he was powerless against the violence the day the accommodation was attacked. But now, he shouldn’t push him like he did that day. Kang Giha lowered his trembling hand.

“… Fine. It would be too much to start right away. I’ll give you time, tell me when you’re ready.”

“Wh- what do you mean that’s Yaba… What happened?!”

“There’s no time for that! You only think about getting a grip and start singing!”

“What are you talking about?! Please find your reason! What happened to Yaba?!”

“I said there was an accident! He was so horribly burned until he’s unrecognisable!”

The guy was dead. So Cocaine can bring him back to life. Cocaine met Kang Giha’s bloodshot gaze in shock. Put away such a weak expression. You are god! Maybe you’re the perfect voice that can summon the spirits of the dead?! The burned body was tough and light like meat. Unknown moisture fell on Yaba’s face.

Sing. Please…

A voice broke in the air. Kang Giha hugged Yaba until he was crushed. Ooze flowed from his skin and stained his clothes. Is this really Yaba, someone asked. The interior was stained with the cries of castration. In the middle of it, Kang Giha was sitting transfixed.

Someone ran into the room. The man dropped the bag in his hand. Bread and milk scattered out of it. The dumbfounded man let out a grotesque moan. The stench of death instantly coloured the space.
