Cha Yiseok brought truffle porridge. Porridge, as well as various health foods, were fed to Yaba, and in return he ate bugs that lived on Yaba’s body. This morning he caught a bug that lived in his belly button. The sight of the worm, caught in his teeth, passing down his oesophagus was disgusting to say the least. Perhaps because of the snake venom, the number and amount of bugs were noticeably reduced. As a result, the number of baths Yaba took also decreased. After eating all the food, Cha Yiseok asked.

“How does it taste?”

“It tastes like porridge. Why do you keep asking when you’re going to feed it anyway you want?”

“It makes me feel competitive in a strange place.”

“You want to win against me?”

Yaba bit on the spoon and raised his eyes. Cha Yiseok narrowed his eyes.

“Of course. I want to see you submit in front of me.”

After saying that, he gave me a glass of water and a handful of medicine. A wine-coloured antidepressant was also included. The antidepressant he hadn’t taken in a few days was sweeter than any health food. Yaba asked as he swallowed the pill.

“Aren’t you going to go to work?”

He knew how thorough he was about his work.

“It’s more fun here than being buried in a pile of papers.”

“Nursing needs to be done by a nurse. Company work should be done by office workers. Get a nurse and go to work. That’s why Chairman Cha hates you.”

Cha Yiseok’s laugh stretched out coolly.

“If you want to reconcile with Chairman Cha, one of you has to be out of this world.”

There was no middle ground for him. He was like a gigantic reptile that would eat his own people if they got in his way. Maybe Chairman Cha was instinctively keeping his son in check?

“Nursing should be done by the nurse, and the patient should lie quietly.”

He swept the messy yarn and stuff off the bed onto the floor. Without warning, he laid himself down, locked Yaba in his arms, and stared down at him. He asked abruptly.

“You went out in the hallway during the day? Why?”

Yaba shut his mouth. It was because just before Cha Yiseok came, a woman called sister-in-law came to visit.

The woman he saw through the intercom looked haggard, but seemed to have put a lot of effort into her makeup. She went outside after the she was escorted by the bodyguards, and for the first time he noticed that there were four bodyguards in the hallway. Yaba replied:

“I left because there was a door.”

“I said no, it’s still dangerous.”

“If I can’t feel safe even going out into the hallway, get rid of the incompetent bodyguards first.”

“I told you not to go out.”

His voice lowered. Yaba glared.

“Why do you guys take it for granted that you can order me around like that? I am here because I want to be. If I want to get out, I’ll jump out the window and get out.”

Cha Yiseok tilted his head crookedly. The narrowed eyes became stiff.

“You want to be here?”

The corner of his eyes got warm.

“No.”

Cha Yiseok’s eyes twinkled as if he were snatching a loophole.

“I think you said that a while ago.”

“When did I?”

“You did.”

“No.”

“You did.”

“No.”

Cha Yiseok wrapped a lock of Yaba’s hair around his finger and chewed it. His saliva-like voice came through the hair.

“You did. You said you want to be here…”

He pressed his tongue firmly into Yaba’s palm and bit it gently with his teeth. He called Yaba’s palms cat jelly. His body became warm from the feeling of the flesh. The bridge of his nose and the heat in his pupils, visible between his fingers, made his eyes shake.

“… No.”

Yaba retorted insistently, but he was no longer paying attention. The thing pressing against his thighs was erect. He slipped his hand around the back of Yaba’s neck, and with his other hand he pulled down his pants. He rubbed each other’s genitals together, then stuck his tongue out and brushed against Yaba’s lips strongly.

“Mmm…”

Yaba gasped, out of breath. The man’s hands grew urgent as he moved toward his climax. His eyes glowed with a cruel light. Cha Yiseok constantly recognized the fact that Yaba was dead and forced him to cut himself off from the world. He didn’t bother to get rid of his phone, even though he became sensitive just if he looked at the front door. It was as if he was testing how he would go out. The purpose of bodyguards may not be just to prevent outside intrusion.

He groaned and thrust his penis into the hole. Ejaculation was sprayed inside. He bit Yaba’s collarbone, and then gently inserted his penis over and over again. The penis moved like a tongue.

Cha Yiseok confirmed that the cat was asleep and went out into the hallway. The bodyguards bowed in moderation. They were quieter than sensor fire, but the aura around them was sharp. He left them behind and got into the elevator. When he went to the lodgings upstairs, the Brains were hard at work.

Kang Giha had not yet reported the transfer of the name of the shares. Because of Yaba, he would have forgotten even the existence of it. Shareholders who have not changed their name cannot claim any rights to the company. He had no intention of waiting for Kang Giha to come to his senses and take care of his share.

Aside from stopping by the store renovation site, Kang Giha apparently was not doing much. But it’s only a matter of time before he realises that the body was fake. Cha Yiseok had to strike from this side before he moved first. Waving the best lure in front of his eyes that he could never turn away from.

The cat was dead. Burn the stains of the past and be born anew. The days that made him fall asleep trembling with anxiety were ending today. The perfect and flawless cure only for himself. No one could take him away.

So far, it had only been an appetiser. The real main dish was from now on.

***

The room was freezing cold. It was because the dry ice and the air conditioner were running on this cold day to delay the decomposition of the corpse. In one corner of the spacious studio, a mud-stained corpse lay, reeking of a stench. Kang Giha stared at the dying corpse. It was a grotesque sight, out of place in the modern interior, even for him.

Yaba was now rotting away in this room. The body had been covered in maggots since yesterday. The guy’s insect delusion became a reality. What he had done to Yaba, he had done to this time. He was neglectful and abusive, not knowing what he was doing. So he had to get Yaba back. Kang Giha stood up like a thunderbolt after sitting in a daze. He dressed roughly and went outside.

The cafe was quiet. Wiping tables and collecting empty glasses, the waiters looked sideways. The bell rang and a man in a baseball cap walked in. The man sat down at a moderate distance. He was not one to wait. Kang Giha watched the entrance while drinking cold coffee. He hadn’t shaved his beard for days and his eyes were hollow. Bored of waiting, he opened the newspaper. Suddenly, he smelled perfume from behind.

“Perhaps… Are you Mr. Kang Giha?”

When he turned his head, he saw a woman about his age standing there. She was neither beautiful nor sophisticated. That was the decisive reason that touched his mother’s pride. Just like her, Kang Giha recognized her at a glance. Lim Jinhee. She was his father’s assistant and mistress. Kang Giha replied:

“That’s right.”

Lim Jinhee guided him to a quiet seat. As he sat down in a corner seat, the waiter put down the citron tea. Lim Jinhee dabbed at her mouth with her handkerchief. Years had left marks around her eyes, but her intense eyes were still there.

“Oh, this is my store. There was vacancy so I told you to come here… I was surprised the first time you called. I couldn’t believe it was the doctor’s son, but it’s obvious looking at your face.”

So he asked to meet in person. Contrary to her appearance, she was not an easy woman. She even told his mother, who went to pull her hair, not to bother her husband. He knew that her number was valid after 10 years, and he contacted her without hesitation, but he was not sure whether the woman would readily disclose the details of her research. Even at this time, Yaba was decaying. He put aside the tedious history of the past and went straight to the main point.

“I happened to see my father’s data. It says there is a healer who can bring the dead back to life.”

Lim Jinhee’s eyes widened. Her hand holding the teacup trembled.

“The perfect healer… you mean.”
