“Hold on a moment!”

I stopped Cedric.

And I ran my hand over my skirt. I could feel the holster that Collen had custom made for me.

It was a thigh holster. I had a magic gun mounted on the holster.

‘This should be enough.’

I nodded.

‘It should be okay for a while before sunset.’

But let’s keep this a secret from Collen.

“I need your help, princess.”

“Do we need to go deep into the woods?”

Cedric shook his head, and then reassured me.

“There won’t be any problems. If anything, I’ll protect you.”

“It could be the other way around.”

“Huh?”

Cedric had a puzzled expression. Soon, Cedric started walking ahead.

Cedric walked into the forest for about 15 minutes. And he stopped in front of a bush.

“Look at this.”

Cedric parted the bush. And what was revealed…

“Ah…”

My eyes widened. It was a large, old cage.

“It’s big enough for a large dog.”

“Yes. Even more than that…”

The cage creaked every time the wind blew. I slowly backed away.

It’s chilling for no reason.

“Do you think someone secretly raised an animal here?”

“That’s possible.”

It’s suspicious. Cedric continued his words.

“I wanted to let you know that I did go into the forest out of curiosity after hearing a strange sound yesterday, but that was it. I’m not a suspicious person.”

Cedric murmured softly.

“I see.”

It’s a bit suspicious, but not entirely impossible.

“And this…”

Cedric rummaged around near the cage. What is it?

My eyes widened.

“Is that… a shoe?”

It was a very old, small and pathetic shoe. A small straw shoe was buried in the soil.

‘Judging by the size of the shoe, it seems like it was worn by a girl under ten.’

Cedric whispered.

“I found this shoe, along with this cage, by accident last dawn.”

“Why are you digging around so much?”

Is he a dog or what?

“I was curious. I was really curious if there were ghosts in the forest. So I went in after hearing the scream and found it by accident.”

Cedric shrugged.

“Is it okay for a royal family member of a country to wander around like that…?”

If the royal family’s followers knew, they’d be shocked. That aside, the reason he showed me all this…

“So you want me to tell my Dad about this and ask him to investigate it.”

“You’re really quick to catch on. Yes, because the royal family doesn’t have much power in the south. I thought it would be overlooked even if I said something.”

“You sure are curious.”

Fortunately, Collen is out tonight. I nodded my head.

“I understand. Let’s go back to our rooms for now. I’ll tell my Dad first thing in the morning.”

“Thank you.”

Cedric smiled. It was just a moment, but the sky had turned from a sunset color to a dark wine color.

‘This place is…’

It’s under the tree where Count Gallian scolded the coachman.

‘This tree species is…’

I stood still there.

‘Ah, so that’s why…’

I remembered the rumor of a curse that makes your body swell up when you enter this forest.

Swoosh, the wind blew. The pointed leaves brushed against my cheek.

“Lady?”

“Ah, no. I think I’ve just solved one of the secrets of this forest.”

“Huh?”

I shook my head. The adventure is now over. Cedric brought me back and took me to my room.

“Do you already sleep alone?”

Ah, isn’t twelve old enough to sleep alone?

“Yes. I sleep well on my own. I have a teddy bear too.”

I regretted saying that. Hmm, was there really a need to mention the teddy bear? Cedric gave a slight smile.

“I’m worried. Just in case, you should sleep in the Saintess’ room, or in the Duke’s room here.”

“Why?”

“In the south, the spirits of wizards live. So be careful not to provoke the ghosts.”

Weird guy. He really is strange.

“I see.”

I nodded my head. Cedric told me to sleep well and then closed the door.
