Chapter 19

The brutal superpower that dominates heaven and earth

Amidst numerous deafening sounds, hundreds of steel gates crashed down, instantly sealing the entire supervision office building into an impenetrable steel coffin.

The entire street was urgently cleared, and all inspectors evacuated from the building, turning the open space into complete chaos. Chen Miao pushed through his subordinates and ran over like a frenzied golden retriever. Even from a distance, one could see the two wide, noodle-like tears streaming down his face. “Senior, it’s great that you’re not dead! Wuu wuu wuu…”

Shen Zhuo’s right wrist was bent at a horrifying angle, and he was panting heavily. He was half-supported and half-embraced by Bai Sheng, standing in front of a car. On the other side, the chief of the security team held a satellite phone, trembling as he asked, “Supervisor, what should we do now? The intruders are trapped on the first basement floor of the building. Should we urgently report to the International Supervision General Administration?”

Shen Zhuo scolded mercilessly, “Report what? That the supervision office in Shenhai City was robbed by a wheelchair-bound cripple?”

The chief of the security team had an expression as if he wished he could slit his own throat. “But… but…”

“Initiate the Level 1 Emergency Plan. Evacuate residents urgently, and inform the military district that we are conducting an exercise; go now!”

The chief of the security team immediately jumped up and ran off.

Bai Sheng inspected Shen Zhuo’s entire body and quickly noticed the bloodstain under the collar at the side of his neck. He became sensitive instantly. “Who did this to you? How did you get injured? When did it happen?”

Shen Zhuo said, “A dog bit me. What about you? What happened?”

Following his gaze, Bai Sheng’s chest had a wound that pierced through the front and back. Thanks to the healing ability bestowed by the witch’s healing power and his own S-level robust physique, the muscles had healed, but the bloodstains were still horrifying.

Bai Sheng didn’t seem to care much. “I just…”

Shen Zhuo spoke coldly, “Can an S-level end up in such a sorry state?”

“I clearly…”

“Now you understand why you can’t get a position, right?”

Bai Sheng: “……”

Expressionless, Bai Sheng grabbed Shen Zhuo’s wrist with one hand and pointed to his own wound with the other. “Did you see this?”

Impatiently, Shen Zhuo said, “Why talk nonsense? I asked you precisely because I saw it. Otherwise, how would I…”

Bai Sheng roared, “You’ve even seen my abdominal muscles; why haven’t you married me yet?!” Then, he quickly applied force!

A crisp sound rang out as Shen Zhuo’s wrist joint was reset, and a gasp escaped his lips, which was quickly covered by Bai Sheng’s fast hand.

The chief of the security team finished the call, trembling, and asked cautiously, “Is it really okay for Supervisor Shen to treat Mr. Bai like this? What if he gets angry…”

“It’s fine; broaden your perspective,” Chen Miao numbly said. “Marrying Bai-ge wouldn’t be a bad choice.”

“Supervisor!” Security personnel from the Surveillance Department hastily approached, holding a tablet in their hands. “The internal monitoring situation of the building has been retrieved. Please take a look!”

Shen Zhuo remained expressionless as he pulled his hand out of Bai Sheng’s seemingly caring grip, taking the tablet from him. The real-time display on the screen showed the situation on the first basement floor of the building.

There was no sound in the surveillance footage, and only the blocked corridor could be seen. Toshisuke Noda appeared panicked and fearful, speaking hastily in Japanese, likely trying to persuade Rong Qi to leave immediately. However, Rong Qi just tightly held his chest, blood flowing profusely, and decisively waved his hand.

“Why doesn’t he die even from this?” exclaimed the chief of the security team.

“It’s not that easy. He can survive even if he’s turned into ashes,” Bai Sheng said, looking at the screen with a pensive expression. He thoughtfully held his chin, “But I didn’t expect that he would rather take this hit than backfire it against you, Inspector Shen… Did you anticipate this from the beginning?”

Shen Zhuo stared at the monitor, ignoring him.

“You deliberately shot that Rong guy to test his limits, right? You wanted to find out if they were really afraid of you dying, so you dared to take out his heart.” Bai Sheng teased, nudging Shen Zhuo with his shoulder. “I knew you were so bold, Supervisor.”

“No good,” Shen Zhuo said softly.

“Why?”

Shen Zhuo raised his chin slightly toward the bottom corner of the monitor. “We forgot someone when we evacuated.”

Bai Sheng asked, “Who?” and then took a closer look.

—On the surveillance screen, a door slowly opened in the distance of the corridor, and a blood-red, distorted figure crawled out—it was Liu Sanji.

“Help… help me…”

“Save me…”

On the first basement-floor corridor, Toshisuke Noda took a sharp breath, staring in astonishment at the horrifying creature on the ground.

Liu Sanji no longer resembled a living person. His skin peeled off in large patches, his limbs were at least twice as long as a normal person’s, and his hands and feet hung like slender, blood-colored tubes, leaving a long trail of blood behind him.

“Mr. Rong…” He had a clear A-level mark on the back of his hand. His tone was muffled and desperate. “I beg you…”

Toshisuke Noda subconsciously took a step back. “This is—”

“Genetic chain rupture,” Rong Qi said calmly, leaning back in his wheelchair. He tightly covered his chest, which was still bleeding profusely, and spoke calmly and hoarsely:

“I can induce a second evolution in an evolutionist’s abilities, forcibly upgrading D-class to A-class. However, I cannot change their inherent genetic limits. If the power I bestow upon them exceeds the limits they can bear, it will lead to this terrifying consequence—neither human nor ghost.”

“Do you know what the biggest lie in the world is?” Rong Qi bent down, staring at Liu Sanji’s murky eyes, and said, “—‘All living beings are equal.'”

The dilated pupils of Liu Sanji widened involuntarily.

“From prokaryotic cell organisms to dinoflagellates, from Gigantopithecus to modern Homo sapiens, every step of Earth’s evolution is filled with countless unjust coincidences. Only the naturally strongest genes can ensure the continuation of a species. Evolutionists have an absolute advantage for humanity, but the majority within the evolutionists are the low-level C and D classes.”

“I once wanted to build an army that all upgraded to A class, but no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t solve the problem of genetic chain rupture. I thought it was unsolvable until I later discovered an ordinary human.”

Rong Qi paused and said softly, word by word, “—Shen Zhuo.”

“Ignoring ethical research, surpassing contemporary technology, breaking through genetic limits at will through an unknown drug, minimizing the occurrence of side effects… No one knows how he did it.”

Toshisuke Noda heard all of this for the first time today and was utterly stunned.

“Bring Shen Zhuo to our side, and all of our kind will be able to safely undergo a second upgrade,” Rong Qi said, looking at the vast emptiness and speaking softly. “We will completely eliminate the ants and dominate the evolutionary direction of the human race.”

“Cough, cough… cough!” Liu Sanji coughed violently, spewing a large amount of blood. He stretched out his hand with all his strength, emitting a final cry, “Please… please!”

Rong Qi exhaled a barely audible breath and lowered his gaze at him. “I can’t save you.”

“…Save me; anything will do; anything will do!…”

“But I can grant you eternal life.”

Liu Sanji immediately froze, his entire being filled with disbelief, and then ecstasy surged into his heart. “Yes, yes! Thank you, thank you, Mr. Rong—”

The next moment, Rong Qi gently placed his hand on the top of his head, and Liu Sanji’s voice abruptly stopped.

His expression remained frozen, but his skin, flesh, and bones quickly melted, emitting a strange meteor-like glow. Then, that faint blue light, as if being pulled by some peculiar force, rapidly surged toward Rong Qi, as if eager to return to its source. In just a few seconds, it was completely absorbed.

—Liu Sanji, who was lying on the ground just moments ago, vanished entirely in the blink of an eye.

At the same time, the bleeding from Rong Qi’s hollow heart gradually stopped, and the meteor’s glow flashed all over his body, then concentrated on his legs and knees.

He took a long breath, and after a moment’s hesitation, he pushed himself up from the wheelchair!

Toshisuke Noda, surprised and delighted, exclaimed, “Mr. Rong!”

Outside the building, people behind the monitoring screens were bewildered. “What’s going on?” “He… has evolved again?”

Sitting in a wheelchair, it was not apparent, but standing up revealed that Rong Qi was quite tall, even slightly taller than Toshisuke Noda. He was clad in a black shirt tucked into matching trousers, with well-groomed features and a subtle, concealed aura of oppression.

He took his first step forward, slightly stiff due to the unfamiliarity, but then his entire musculature adjusted to its peak state. His steps gradually became smooth and natural, an invisible force radiating from all around him, surging in every direction.

“No need to thank,” he said, lowering his gaze to the last remaining bloodstain at his feet and speaking in a low, soft voice.

Then, with a wave of his hand, an immense force like a missile instantly tore through more than a dozen steel gates, breaking through the outer wall of the building with a resounding crash!

Like thunder striking on flat ground, the space outside the building instantly fractured. Everyone fell to the ground amidst the deafening noise, and then Rong Qi’s nightmarish figure appeared in the billowing black smoke.

The power assimilated from Liu Sanji was only enough to make Rong Qi stand up; it was insufficient for the regeneration of his heart. Therefore, the left chest cavity remained a horrifying void. However, the severe injury didn’t seem to have a significant impact. Everyone could feel the rapidly strengthening power around him. His black, profound eyes were fixed on Shen Zhuo.

“Supervisor Shen…”

Boom!

Bai Sheng waved his hand, conjuring a massive fireball that engulfed Rong Qi. Immediately, he grabbed Shen Zhuo and urged, “Run, run, run, run, run—”

Shen Zhuo probably had never cooperated so actively in his life. He was held in Bai Sheng’s arms, and in the next instant, they appeared on a utility pole, and within the blink of an eye, they were dozens of yards away, loudly asking amid the swift wind, “Where are you taking me?”

Bai Sheng angrily said, “To find a place with no one and have a good chat with your admirer!”

“Don’t be ridiculous. What admirer? He…”

“If he’s not an admirer, why does he keep following you? Is it because of unsettled debts or lingering feelings?!”

“I don’t even know this person. I…”

Before Shen Zhuo could finish his sentence, a flash of light appeared, and Rong Qi materialized before them. He coldly stared at the two of them and raised his hand.

However, before he could unleash his attack, Bai Sheng, without hesitation, conjured another massive fireball and threw it at him. The temperature soared to over a thousand degrees, turning half the sky a fiery red. Then, amidst the intense light and flames, Bai Sheng grabbed Shen Zhuo and soared toward the outskirts of the city. Roaring at Shen Zhuo’s ears, he angrily questioned, “—Speak! Did you have a relationship with him before?”

Shen Zhuo said, “…I haven’t had a relationship with anyone. Stop being irrational at a time like this!”

Bang—!

A loud noise echoed in the air, and the ground suddenly shook.

In the sky ahead, a colossal fireball, over ten meters high, rapidly extinguished. Rong Qi once again appeared in the billowing smoke, coldly staring down at them, his gaze ice-cold.

Thanks to their mad dash earlier, they had finally moved away from the bustling city center of Shenhai and arrived in an open, desolate area, far from the highway, with rare signs of human presence.

Bai Sheng halted his steps, pushing Shen Zhuo behind him. No one could see that the muscles under his black attire had tensed to the extreme. His tone, however, showed no signs of abnormality. “Go behind me. Close your eyes and stay quiet.”

Shen Zhuo wanted to protest, but Bai Sheng’s grip was truly unstoppable.

“Can you handle this alone?”

Bai Sheng sneered, “What are you thinking, my darling? If I can handle you, I can definitely handle that cripple.”

“Bai… Sheng,” Rong Qi’s cold voice came from not far away.

Whether it was because he stood up or the fact that he was no longer in his wheelchair, the gentle and reserved exterior he wore while sitting seemed to have peeled away slightly. There was a hint of a more oppressive true face, “What are you doing in the wilderness? Afraid of being seen in your sorry state?”

Bai Sheng exhaled a hot breath, looked up at Rong Qi, and then, strangely, laughed for a moment.

“Didn’t you ask me about my ultimate move just now?”

Rong Qi narrowed his eyes. Bai Sheng raised his left index finger and then spread his palm. A rotating airflow surged rapidly in his palm.

“I don’t know how you evolved into this, but with your unending ability, today, any S-level could potentially fall at your hands. If you’re given more time to evolve, perhaps you can march straight to Switzerland and flatten the entire International Supervision General Administration.”

“You just had bad luck, encountering me as the first.”

Bai Sheng, with bloodstains on the corners of his mouth, curved a smile full of murderous intent. “It’s okay; pay attention in your next life.”

The airflow flashed with a cold light, rushing in all directions. Even the swaying mountains and forests suddenly froze, and the entire land fell into a deathly silence as if it had turned into a tomb.

It seemed like only that bright ball of light was left in the world, rapidly spinning in Bai Sheng’s palm, reflecting the subtle change in Rong Qi’s expression.

“So that’s it. It’s in your hands…”

“…Wepon of Causality.”

The direction of a person’s evolution was related to their personality, subconscious, and mental state. Nielsen, being a dictator with strong desires, evolved destructive and oppressive abilities. Fu Chen, with a gentle temperament, evolved defensive and counterattack abilities with upright and inverted crosses. Many people thought that Bai Sheng, as a carefree young rich second-generation person, cheerful and sunny with a good personality, would likely evolve primarily in the mental aspect.

But they were obviously wrong.

A person with a “cheerful and sunny good personality” could not possibly evolve such a brutal ability—

The law of causality, one of the strongest philosophical weapons, could directly erase the existence of an enemy, making them disappear from history. It could even erase the identity information, kinship, and social value created since birth.

This kind of ability, which claimed dominance over everything, could potentially surpass all S-class abilities if used to its utmost. However, all things in the world must follow the principle of balance. Overly powerful abilities were inevitably accompanied by some fatal flaws—

“The law of causality has an 11% success rate. Once out of control, it will escalate into indiscriminate mass slaughter, and the surrounding radius of 3000 meters will become a lifeless zone.”

Rong Qi stared at the terrifyingly bright ball of light in mid-air and said softly, “No wonder. I wondered why you ran to the wilderness like this.”

On the overpass in the distance, occasional vehicles zoomed by, and the shadow of tall buildings could be vaguely seen in the expansive city under the sky.

People were living their normal and peaceful lives, completely unaware that they had just narrowly escaped a catastrophe.

“Come to my side, Supervisor Shen.” Rong Qi’s gaze bypassed Bai Sheng, and he extended his hand toward Shen Zhuo from afar. “The success probability of causality is only one in ten. Once it goes out of control, even the caster will have a difficult time escaping, and there won’t be any more chances to risk saving others. Both you and I will be buried here.”

The air solidified, and a deathly silence pressed down on the wilderness. The clear light was spinning rapidly in Bai Sheng’s palm.

“Mr. Bai originally came to your side with a purpose. Haven’t you realized yet? Your survival is the biggest obstacle for him. If you die, he can completely dominate Shenhai.”

Rong Qi gazed into Shen Zhuo’s eyes and opened his palm towards him, “In this world, ants are not on the same side as you, Supervisor Shen. Stand with me, and I will lead you to create a future where absolute equality reigns, free from war and turmoil for everyone.”
