I nodded my head slightly.

“Maybe the devil doesn’t like this ending at all. So is the ancient night separated by it like this? It wants the mages to see and imitate?”

“No one knows what the devil was thinking. So for now, everything you think might be the answer.”

“Is that so?”

The ancient times were also an unknown realm.

I stopped and looked at the night that would never flow. Only the wind was lively in a quiet stillness.

***

After watching the frozen night, Idris went out to carry out his schedule. I met Eustave again.

“It doesn’t seem long before my job turns into an escort.”

I replied,

“You don’t hate me too much, do you?”

“Then would you like it? If your whole week’s worth of work was messed up?”

Eustave blamed me as if he had given up. But it was true, so I didn’t want to say anything.

“Ah. Is that so? I apologize.”

“Thanks for the quick apology…”

Eustave sat in front of me with a resigned face.

I followed his movements with my eyes and threw the words out.

“By the way, you specialize in reading people’s inner thoughts?”

Then, I could see at a glance that he became stiff.

“I heard a little bit from Idris this morning. He said you can read their inner thought just by making eye contact. Have you read it too?”

“… First of all, I’m sorry that I didn’t tell you in advance.”

He made a very troubled face.

“But I have never read Vianne’s thoughts.”

“Really? If I were you, I would do it. Do you have a conscience or any other reason?

“Do not ask about conscience from a mage in a high-ranking position on the island. I just refrained from reading because I was afraid that I would be killed by the master.”

“It’s good that there’s no pretense.”

To be honest, I was a little scared when I heard Idris. I’ve been thinking about all sorts of things in front of him.

Even so, I wanted to believe him when he said this.

Instead, I want to watch him using it once.

“Well then, Eustave.”

“Yes.”

“Read what I think now.”

My chin leaned on my hand. Eustave made a questionable expression.

“You don’t like me doing it, do you?”

‘I don’t like it. But I want to check if it’s real.’

“I wonder why you think that.”

‘Oh. Even if you don’t speak, the conversation continues. It’s miraculous.’

“…  …  Are you enjoying it now?”

‘Of course there are things that satisfy my interest, but…’

“But?”

‘Idris said this. I can be a mage too. Because I hold the mana. Then, I was wondering if I could grasp the mana and use it. But only geniuses do that. At best, I can only feel the sensation of mana in my head. I don’t know how you manage your mana.’

“…….”

‘What? Why aren’t you replying? Did you stop reading me? It still feels ticklish though.’

“I am still reading.”

“But why don’t you say anything?”

“You’re talented in just feeling it. So I was at a loss for words.”

“Is that so? Ah, stop reading.”

“Yes. If you read it anyway, I’ll know, so you won’t be reading it again.”

“…To what extent is my talent?”

I asked Eustave, who looked a little surprised.

“You’ll probably learn the basics quickly. You might be staying on mage’s island until next year.”

“Oh.”

From saints to mages, I live and do everything I can.

“Did the master teach you?”

“He will. He said that if he leave, there will be some substitute.”

“You mean me? There will be more work.”

Eustave frowned. He was a little pitiful.

“I will hand it over to Camellia as much as possible.”

“That… and yet, you’re here today, aren’t you?”

“Camellia was out of the office today, so I had no choice but to do it.”

“He’s out of work? Is he on a business trip?”

“He went to tell a person named Liliel. He was the first person under the archmage’s direct control, yet he was acting as an errand boy. He was likely to complain, but he stayed silent.”

Idris must’ve sent him. Well, she needs to know the situation over there. Liliel will be curious about our situation too.

I picked up the cookie in front of me and bit it.  I shook my head for a moment while chewing quietly.

“Eustave. Are you even close friends with Camellia?”

I asked him a random question.

“Why do you ask that?”

“If you’re on good terms, I’d like to ask you for communication magic.”

“Are you saying that I should contact Camellia?”

“Yes, I will talk to Liliel. But is that possible?”

“It is possible, but communication involving more than two people cannot be maintained for long.”

“Three minutes would be enough. I’m afraid Liliel might be worried, so I’m just trying to tell her my well-being for a moment.”

“It will not be easy, but it is possible.”

“Then I will ask you.”

“……Can I refuse?”

“If you refuse, I will call Idris…”

“Damn it. I’ll take your orders.”

Then, a magic circle was launched.

I felt sorry for him. But what can I do when that threat works best for him?

A unique colorful magic circle spin on the table. Soon, I heard Camellia’s voice.

[Is it an emergency?]

It was a calm and low voice. Given that there were questions about whether it was an emergency or not instead of greeting, the two did not seem to communicate often.

“No, that…  …  .”

Eustave hesitated. It seemed like both are not that close.

[It’s been a while since you hesitated to say something.]

“Hello, Camellia.”

I spoke on behalf of Eustave.

[…We need to save time, so please tell us quickly, Vianne.]

Camellia was quick-witted. I like her*.

TL Note: There was a mistake in Camellia’s gender, it is revealed now that Camellia is a she. Should’ve figure that out from the name but anyways i’m sorry  :’)
