What happened next was like a slow motion and a blur in her memories.
The armed man slowly staggered backwards, and fell to the ground and landed on his butt. He was staring horrified at Kei. His eyes felt like they were about to pop out.
After what felt like an eternity, he quickly scrambled to get up and frantically crawled further using both of his hands; the man grabbed Kei's wallet and paper bag and hurriedly ran away.
Risa was standing in shock while looking at Kei who was clutching onto his chest. He slowly lost his balance and stumbled forward onto her. Risa swiftly caught him, but his weight dragged her down with him. Both of them soon fell onto the ground.

"NO!! Kei!!" Risa screamed out of her lungs.
"No, darling, No!"
She started to sob real hard, "Help," she started to yell, but her throat was choked up.
"HELP! Someone!"
"Anyone! Please!"
"HELP!!"
She pressed her hands over the gunshot wound, while still screaming loudly, asking for help.
Kei was gasping for air, and both of his hands were holding onto hers tightly. His eyes were blurry. He thought he saw his beautiful wife was looking around, tears were streaming down her snow white face. Her mouth was opened and closed, but he could not hear any words that she was saying.
Slowly, his eyelids felt so heavy but he tried so hard to keep them open.
"No!! Baby, no! Stay with me!"
"Please!!"
"Stay with me!!"
Risa looked around frantically and saw that her purse was still lying next to her; she tried to grab it with one hand. She stretched out her arm and after struggling for a while, with Kei's whole body weight on her, Risa finally managed to grab her bag.
She flipped the bag upside down, and found her mobile phone. She quickly pressed 911 with her trembling fingers.
She could not feel the wet blood in her hands. She did not care about her skinned knees or torn jacket. She did not notice that her designer bag was ruined with blood and snow.
All she could think about was Kei.
Her unconscious Kei.

Risa turned around, and a weak smile escaped from her lips. Her eyes was empty but no tears came out of her beautiful eyes.
"The doctor told me that the bullet missed his heart by only a few inches. That was why he is still alive."
She walked back to the bed, and sat down next to him again, "But his heart had stopped many times during the surgery."
She softly sighed, "All of his vital signs were really bad when he came out of the ICU, and then gradually he was showing much improvement. His brain is still healthy, but the doctor said because of lack of oxygen during the first help, and also his heart stopping several times..." Risa paused as she felt her throat was choking.
She took a deep breath, before continuing, "Doctor speculated, that maybe those are the cause of him unable to wake up."
Some time in the middle of the story, the unfamiliar woman had moved up the chair for Shao Yan to sit down. Li Xiqing was standing behind her, with one hand on her shoulder, and the other hand was inside his pants pocket.
Shao Yan could not believe the story she just heard.
Christmas day supposedly was a merry celebration for everyone. But now, every year, Risa would have to remember the horrifying incident.
Li Xiqing saw how Yan Yan was struggling to form words. Her lips kept opening and closing, but she still could not decide on what to say.
He squeezed her shoulder lightly; showing his support.

"So, did they catch the man?"
Li Xiqing tried to fill in the awkward silence in the room. Risa looked up and stared back at him. She shook her head weakly, "I gave the description to the police. But they were not able to do anything. I don't know about what happened now, since I am not staying there anymore."
"But, to be honest, I don't care," she scoffed, "what can they do anyway? Kei will still have to lie down here unconscious while that man probably just has to spend a few years behind bars."
Silence consumed the air again.
With a weak smile, Risa continued with what sounded like a whisper, as if she was just mumbling to herself.
"I just wish I know what he's feeling right now. Is he in pain, is he comfortable? Other than that, I don't care about anything else."

Shao Yan was watching how the trees moved around her. Her mind was blank, she was just looking at the swaying leaves that moved past her.
They were on the way home after sending Grandma Wu back. Li Xiqing was driving the car, and he had not said anything ever since they got back into the car after they walked Grandma Wu into her house.

"You know, that was the twelfth time you have been heaving sighs ever since we left Risa's place," he suddenly opened his mouth.
Shao Yan was brought back to her attention. She swiftly turned her head around and looked at him.
"I'm sorry," she paused, "I just... I just don't know what to do, or what to say now. Things have been so tragic for her."
Li Xiqing reached over and patted her head before he pulled his hand back to the steering wheel.
"You don't have to apologize to me. I was just saying it earlier for you to stop sighing."
The traffic light just turned red, so he slowed the car down and stopped behind the white lines.
"You know, sighing actually chased the happiness away," he glanced at her, "so, don't sigh anymore."
"You can see Risa is a very strong woman," he continued, "and what we can do right now, is to do whatever we can to support her and Kei."
Shao Yan nodded absentmindedly, "En," she slowly said, "I know. I still can't help myself to see her with a pitiful face. I know she will not want to see that."
She reached out one hand and placed it on top of Li Xiqing's forearm, "Help me to go through this, alright? Help reminding me that Sis is a strong woman, and that everything will be alright."
He patted her hand, "You don't even have to ask. That is my job. I am always here for you," and then he gave a light squeeze.
