“Situational Explanation, Persuasion, and Education”

“That’s why.”

“I see.”

When I asked Mark about the details of the war, there wasn’t much difference between the information I had obtained beforehand and what he told me.

Suddenly, the army of the Seconds Kingdom had taken positions at the border of the Byreus territory, showing signs of an invasion. Their total number exceeded thirty thousand, and they were eagerly eyeing the borders of the Schells Kingdom, ready to invade.

In response to this, the neighboring Malbert family, which shares borders with the Byreus territory, couldn’t remain idle. They immediately prepared reinforcements, and their lord, Randall, personally led the army and departed yesterday.

Mark, the heir apparent of the Malbert family, was only ten years old, but he was remarkably capable compared to boys of the same age. Randall must have judged that if something happened to himself, having Mark would pose no problem. The speed of his decision-making, from obtaining the invasion information to the departure, was impressively quick.

And in the midst of being flustered by the Seconds Kingdom’s attack, Mark apparently impulsively sent me a letter explaining the war. Though it was just a fine gesture.

“Hmm.”

“Ouch! W-What on earth, Brother… What are you doing?”

Upon hearing that, I gently flick Mark’s forehead. Honestly, he still lacked awareness as the heir apparent. Well, considering he’s only ten years old, I suppose it can’t be helped… As for me, I’m still twelve, after all.

“Sigh, to think you’d send me a letter about a mere neighboring country attacking. I taught you enough to handle such minor issues smoothly.”

“I-I’m sorry, Brother. I got scared when I thought it would turn into a war.”

“…..”

While Mark lowered his head in response to my scolding, I pondered about the future. Even if I hadn’t received Mark’s letter, I would have heard about the war through the king. It’s clear that I’d made my presence known by arriving here, just as I did this time.

Over the past few years, I’ve encountered and built relationships with various people. Those relationships had become so deeply ingrained that they couldn’t be easily severed.

Regarding Mark, Greg, and Machad, since I’d burdened them with responsibilities that I should bear myself, I couldn’t do anything heartless like abandoning them now.

The children at the orphanage and the servants in the capital’s mansion were the same. Before I knew it, I found myself responsible for protecting many people.

Most of them were individuals I met through my whims or by chance, but now it felt like it was inevitable, to the point where I fell into the illusion that it was meant to be.

I couldn’t overlook the fact that this incident might harm those people. So, I returned to the Malbert family’s mansion, which I had been so eager to leave behind.

“Anyway. I’ll handle it this time, so think of a way to manage without me in the future.”

“Huh? Brother, are you saying you’ll participate in the war?”

“Of course. That’s why I came back.”

When I announced my intention to participate in the war, Mark’s face showed a look of astonishment. From his expression, it seemed that he never expected me to fight, and he immediately began to panic, trying to stop me.

“No, brother. You’re just a twelve-year-old child!”

“Do you think I’ll be affected by a war caused by mere humans?”

“I don’t think so, but…”

In response to my seemingly arrogant question, Mark answered without hesitation. Yes, there was nothing they could do. Rather, they should be concerned about the enemy they would have to face, who had the power to defeat even SS-ranked monsters, let alone ordinary humans. There was no reason for him to be worried.

Of course, I had no intention of underestimating the opponent, even if they were ordinary humans. I planned to participate with the mindset of being able to handle any situation at any time.

Nevertheless, I didn’t know how much Mark trusted me, but my younger brother, who boasted that he could win against a force of thirty thousand soldiers, seemed to have some expectations of me. I was curious to hear what he thought, but depending on the answer, it might complicate our future relationship. It would be safer not to ask and let sleeping dogs lie.

“That’s right. Moreover, it would be faster for me to take action to minimize the damage on our side.”

“……”

Unable to refute the undeniable truth, Mark lowered his head and fell silent. At that moment, Laura, who had been by my side, called my name in a serious tone.

“Dear Brother Roland.”

“What is it?”

“It doesn’t matter whether fighting the war yourself will end it or minimize the damage. Both Mark and I are worried about you as a beloved family member.”

As she spoke, her gaze was earnest, truly that of a caring younger sister. However, it was clearly a departure from her usual attitude toward me, causing a momentary delay in my understanding of what she said.

Her words were unexpectedly surprising, beyond my expectations. If I were to compare it to her usual behavior, she would usually say something like, “If it’s you, Brother, you can easily resolve one or two wars,” with mysterious confidence…

“What do you think? A devoted and worried beautiful little sister… Have you fallen for her?”

“……”

It seemed that I had misunderstood. Laura was still Laura, no matter how you looked at it.

After that, I was occupied with persuading Mark, who opposed my participation in the war, and educating Laura, who behaved strangely. Before I knew it, it was already noon.

We paused the conversation and had lunch, then set off towards Byreus territory, which had become the battlefield.

By the way, I attempted to re-educate Laura, but her obsession with me was too strong to make any progress. I worried about her unfortunate future as my sister, but for now, it was an emergency situation, so I decided to overlook it.
