“Sara is truly no ordinary person?”

“Men, as you’ve heard, an ogre horde is approaching this village. We have two choices: fight or flee. So, let us, as proud members of the demon race, choose to fight!”

“Ooooh!”

In response to the village chief’s rallying drum, the men of the village responded with an uproarious shout. Watching this through Sara’s eyes, I felt a bit apologetic.

While it wasn’t certain beyond a doubt, it was highly likely that this incident had been caused by me. The villagers had been caught up in this situation because of me.

In life, there were instances where we inconvenience others due to our own actions. However, when the matter involved life and death, the sense of guilt was something entirely different.

That’s why, when I heard about the approaching ogre horde, my only option was to choose to fight. Running away now would be equivalent to abandoning the villagers to their fate. Besides, if I, who could defeat an SS-ranked monster, couldn’t stand against B or A-ranked ogres, then who would?

“Village Chief.”

“Young lady, it’s dangerous here. You should seek refuge in the square.”

“No, I will fight too.”

The village chief, upon hearing Sara’s words, shook his head with a troubled expression. He probably thought that Sara, being a young girl, wouldn’t be able to defeat ogres. That was the general impression people had of young girls. Well, if Sara was just an ordinary young girl…

I was tempted to debate whether it was appropriate to call a girl with an immensely powerful being like an SS-ranked entity in her background “ordinary,” but that was a discussion for another time.

AD

“Village Chief, as my brother explained yesterday, we were abducted by a bird-like monster, right?”

“That’s right.”

“Then how did we manage to escape from that bird monster?”

“Come to think of it…”

“The answer is me. Despite how I may look, I’m actually quite strong. I owe you all for saving my life, and I believe I can be of help.”

Sara spoke those words. Of course, she was simply reciting the telepathically transmitted message, but even so, the fact that she could fluently say it without stumbling despite her usual behavior made me feel slightly moved. If you put your mind to it, you can achieve anything.

Amidst these somewhat impolite thoughts, I realized that the village chief had granted permission for Sara to participate in the battle. They needed every able-bodied person they could get. Even if that person was a seemingly young girl.

And now, the ogres that had surrounded us began their advance toward the village. There were at least fifty ogres, if not more, and the villagers numbered less than half of that.

Using “Super Analysis” to Appraise them in advance, I found that, true to their status as demons, even the weakest among them possessed abilities equivalent to at least a high-ranking C-class adventurer. Some even had abilities on par with a B-ranked adventurer.

However, it was evident that the odds were against us, and no matter how hard we tried, the village would undoubtedly suffer. I pondered whether there was any way to turn the tide when Sara contacted me through telepathy.

“Rolando-san.”

“What is it?”

“Is it not allowed to use magic?”

“Huh?”

Startled by her sudden question, I answered nonchalantly, considering her status as a demon. Little did I know, her response would catch me off guard.

“If it’s allowed, then watch this. ‘Hellflame Inferno’!!”

“Huh!?”

Allow me to explain. “Hellflame Inferno”, the spell Sara used, was a high-level Flame Magic that could be learned when Flame Magic reached level seven, surpassing basic Fire Magic. It was a powerful spell that engulfed a wide area in flames.

Of course, I could use it too. The issue was that Sara had used it. Yes, it was significant that she had used it. Although I had only met her half a day ago, even I could tell that she had a bit of a clumsy side. So the fact that she had used a magic spell that boasted such formidable power, even for a demon skilled in magic, was truly surprising.

And then, I realized something for the first time. I hadn’t used Super Analysis to investigate her… Her inexplicable arrival in the unfamiliar land of the demon realm might have caused it, or perhaps it was just my oversight. Either way, I couldn’t avoid this revelation. So, I decided to conduct a Super Analysis on Sara without hesitation.

What the heck!? I have no idea what to tell about this.

I’d seen this kind of situation before. That’s why I quickly realized several possibilities, but it seemed that Sara, the demon, was not an ordinary girl after all.

There were three possibilities I could think of right now for why my skill “Super Analysis” might not be able to discern the opponent’s abilities:

The opponent is stronger than me. The opponent has a “Concealment” or similar ability that surpasses my level of “Super Analysis”. The opponent possesses legendary or mythological magic tools or items that are beyond the scope of “Super Analysis”.

The first possibility was unlikely. …I mean, it was Sara we were talking about. Do you really think she’s stronger than me?

Furthermore, even if Sara were stronger than me, her age and gender aside, I shouldn’t be able to see her name. This had already been demonstrated with the female demon and Nagartinya.

That left us with the possibility that she possessed legendary or mythological magic tools or items. Among these three options, this one was the most realistic and the one that made the most sense, as it wouldn’t be based on her own abilities, thus explaining why my “Super Analysis” wouldn’t work.

Observing her closely, I noticed that she was adorned with bracelets on both arms, anklets on both ankles, as well as a choker and necklace around her neck. If these ornaments were not just for fashion but served to activate such abilities, then it made sense for her to wear so many accessories. Well, if I’m wrong, she’s just an accessory maniac.

While I didn’t learn much about her, my deduction from the limited information was that she was likely to be someone who would end up involved in endless troubles. Ah, I should clarify, not a human, but a demon.

As I contemplated such matters, Sara’s unleashed “Hellflame Inferno” swept through the ogres, decimating their ranks. True to its high-level nature, the spell wreaked havoc over a considerable area, drastically reducing the number of ogres.

AD

Ogres that had likely exceeded fifty in number were now reduced to less than half, all thanks to her magic. Even the surviving ogres weren’t unscathed, and there were barely fifteen of them left capable of fighting. The tide had completely turned.

The village chief and the others could only stare in astonishment. Even after Sara’s magic subsided, they remained bewildered for several seconds. However, as soon as they realized the result was due to her attack, the village chief rallied them.

“Now is our chance! Attack, everyone!”

The villagers, who had been dumbfounded, regained their senses upon the village chief’s command and charged at the ogres. Although the surviving ogres attempted to fight back, many of them were severely weakened by Sara’s magic. Unscathed villagers gradually reduced their numbers, one by one.

(If I had known, maybe I wouldn’t have needed to control her like a remote…)

Watching this through Sara’s perspective, I was merely observing the spectacle of villagers trampling down ogres on the brink of death. What was the purpose of “Thread Marionette” again?

For now, I needed to reevaluate my assessment of Sara and raised my guard. If possible, I should try to learn about her directly from her. I couldn’t be sure if she’d answer, though.

In my mind, I continued to reflect on these thoughts while Sara, surrounded by grateful villagers, remained as an image in my head. However, maintaining that connection was now pointless. Therefore, I released “Thread Marionette” and headed toward Sara.
