Chapter 203.2 - "Side Story - The Returned Single Freesia"

“The Returned Single Freesia”

~ Side Sara ~

My name is Sara. Just a regular demon… I’m a girl who wished for that.

The environment around me was quite unique compared to other demons. People around me praised me and pampered me. It was better than being insulted and feeling bad, but there was this invisible wall between me and them. There was a significant distance.

I understood that it was how things have to be given my status, but it was still lonely not to have someone to talk to without reservations.

I got sidetracked a bit, but I’d finally managed to return to the Demon Lord’s capital. I really didn’t think I would be able to come back, so I was surprised myself. I should be thankful to Rolando-san.

As for why I was in such a remote place away from the Demon Lord’s capital this time, I think it might have been at his behest. Let me share a bit about my background. I had two older sisters.

One was my elder sister, the calm and gentle Elder Sister Sanya, and the other was the slightly strong-willed Saniya.

Even with that, we were called the Beautiful Three Sisters. Ohohoho… well, let’s leave the jokes aside. Until recently, the three of us got along well. But that suddenly changed.

The trigger for this was something trivial. While enjoying tea together, Saniya suddenly raised her voice and directed harsh words at Sanya.

“What’s bothering you, Saniya?”

“I can’t stand everything about you. The same goes for you, Sara.”

“Elder Sister Saniya…”

Saniya’s transformation-like behavior left both me and Sanya perplexed. All we could do was watch as Saniya snorted and left the scene.

I didn’t know what kind of change occurred in my sister’s heart, but due to her abrupt change in attitude, I began to suspect that someone was manipulating her.

After that, Saniya started treating us like enemies at every opportunity, and eventually, she crossed the line. Suddenly summoned by Saniya, I was thrilled to meet my sister again after a long time. But…

“First one down. This should get rid of the nuisance.”

“Elder Sister Saniya!?”

The expression on Saniya’s face, as she looked at me, was far removed from the kind sister who used to be strong-willed but still cared about things. Before I knew it, I was being abducted by a monster named Dagal, which had the form of a bird. By the time I was freed from Dagal, I found myself in some unknown remote place.

In such a situation, I tried to return to my original place, the Demon Lord’s capital, but then the Ogre King appeared. While I was running away, Rolando-san came to my rescue.

“I never thought we’d make it that far in just one week…”

Once again, I was reminded of how astonishingly fast we could return to the Demon Lord’s capital. It truly emphasized his extraordinary nature. When I first met him, I was surprised to learn he was a human, but now I couldn’t thank him enough.

If it were just me, I probably wouldn’t have made it to the Demon Lord’s capital, let alone the first village I came across, within a week.

“I can’t afford to be thinking about this now. I need to go back.”

Though it hadn’t been much time since I was sent away, I couldn’t believe Saniya, my elder sister, would use such means to undermine me. She wouldn’t have spared Sanya, my other elder sister, either. I had to hurry back.

I walked straight down the main street and arrived at a certain building. I informed the man guarding the place that I wanted to see Teria. By the way, I’m currently using magic to disguise my true form, so the guard doesn’t recognize me.

After a while, Teria arrived, looking puzzled at first, but her expression quickly changed to one of surprise as she opened her eyes wide. However, she promptly regained her usual calm demeanor and said to the man, “Thank you for your efforts. I’ll take care of this person’s matters, so you can return to your duties.” Then she guided me inside.

The room she led me to was a familiar one. It had been the room I’d used since my childhood, the place where I’d spent the longest time in my life.

“Sara-sama!”

“Teria, I’ve worried you.”

As soon as we entered the room, Teria hugged me, relieved that I was safe. It was heartwarming to know that there were people besides my family who cared about me, but now was not the time for that. I asked Teria about the situation since I disappeared.

“It happened about three days ago. Sanya-sama collapsed with a mysterious illness and hasn’t woken up since…”

“W-What!? Elder Sister Sanya did?”

I was shocked by what Teria told me. Considering what happened to me and now with Elder Sister Sanya, I didn’t want to think this way, but it was likely that Elder Sister Saniya was involved.

This was a critical situation that I couldn’t afford to overlook. Just as I was thinking of a way to break through, Teria told me something unbelievable.

“Sara-sama, please stay calm and listen. According to the doctors, Sanya-sama has an incurable disease, and they don’t know how to treat it.”

“I see…”

“But that’s not all. If her current state continues for another two days or more, it’s likely that Sanya-sama will never wake up again…”

“W-What?!”

Upon hearing the diagnosis of an incurable disease and the prognosis that Elder Sister Sanya might never wake up, darkness seemed to close in around me. My heart raced with a feeling akin to panic.

“That’s right! That person…”

“Sara-sama? What on earth…”

Ignoring Teria’s call, I took out a sheet of paper and a pen from a drawer. Suppressing my anxiety, I carefully wrote the contents of the letter in the neatest handwriting possible, sealed it in an envelope, and handed it to Teria.

Teria looked puzzled, alternating between the letter and my face, but there was no time to explain everything.

“Please deliver this letter to a boy named Rolando! It’s urgent!!”

“Rolando, you say? Understood.”

Although I didn’t know the reason, Teria sensed my urgency and left the room without further questions. Alone in the room, I murmured softly.

“Rolando-san, please. You’re the only one I can rely on now…”

With that plea, I pictured the face of the boy who would undoubtedly make a displeased expression and respond with curt words. The memory of his refreshing yet irksome expression made me smile, even in this emergency.

“Teria, please. Bring Rolando-san here as soon as possible…”

Facing Teria, who held the letter containing my earnest wish, I whispered my prayer.
