Chapter 206 - "Dispel"

“Dispel”

“High Dispel.”

I chanted the spell “High Dispel,” a higher-level curse-removing magic. However, even with this, I couldn’t dispel Sanya’s curse. I couldn’t help but wonder how powerful this curse was and who had cast it. But right now, breaking the curse took precedence over all else.

“I never thought I’d have to use this… Ex Dispel!!”

I proceeded to cast Ex Dispel, an even higher-level curse-removing magic. Yet, Sanya remained unconscious. However, due to the nature of this advanced magic, I managed to extend the time until the curse fully activated from 46 hours to 107 hours.

“I can’t believe I had to use Ex Dispel, an advanced curse-removing spell.”

“As expected of you, Rolando-san.”

I received compliments from Teria and Sara, but the fact remained that Sanya’s curse was still unbroken. However, I still had one trump card left.

“Could the three of you step back a bit? I’m going to use something more powerful.”

“Uh, are you sure about this?”

“Probably.”

As a precaution, I asked the three of them to step away, then concentrated my magic power further. Even someone like me had to concentrate to use this magic. Despite being able to use all magic without incantations, I still spoke the incantation aloud because it helped focus my mind.

“Transform all to their rightful form, dust to dust, ash to ash, and that which clings to the being, return it to nothingness! Perfect Dispel!!”

As I activated the spell, a blinding light enveloped the bed. Perfect Dispel was a high-level curse-removing magic among curse-removing spells, and its effect was immense.

“Ugh…”

“Elder sister!”

“Sanya-sama!”

The moment the light subsided, Sanya’s eyelids twitched slightly, and she uttered a voice that seemed like she was about to wake up. Sara and the servant woman reacted to this. Their voices reached Sanya, and her eyelids, which had been moving, opened, and she woke up.

“What’s all this noise?”

“Elder sister Sanya!!”

“Sanya-sama!!”

“Sara and Tillis, what on earth is going on?”

Sanya, who had suddenly been embraced by the two, wore a bewildered expression. It seemed that the servant woman was named Tillis.

Subsequently, Sara explained to Sanya what had happened, how she had been cursed by someone, and how I had managed to help her.

“I see, I worried you both quite a bit.”

“As long as Elder sister Sanya is safe, there’s no problem.”

“Me too.”

“It was Rolando-sama, wasn’t it? Thank you very much for your help.”

Sanya expressed her gratitude while bowing to me. Following her, both Sara and Tillis also voiced their appreciation.

“Thank you so much! It was definitely the right decision to ask for Rolando-san’s help.”

“…Not quite.”

“Huh? What do you mean?”

“I said the curse on your sister hasn’t been lifted yet.”

“What!? W-What do you mean!?”

My unexpected words elicited a shocked cry from Sara. However, this was not an unreasonable reaction. When someone who had been under a curse for some time suddenly woke up, it wasn’t hard to imagine that they would attribute it to the curse being broken. So, when Sara asked if it was different this time, I confirmed that it was.

Certainly, thanks to the powerful curse-removing magic Perfect Dispel, Sanya had escaped the imminent danger of falling into a deep sleep within the next two or three days. However, this was only a temporary extension of the curse’s effects.

“I don’t know how much hatred someone holds against your sister, but using my Perfect Dispel, I could only extend the curse’s effects to last for twenty days. If nothing changes, she will fall back into a coma in two weeks, and after twenty days, she will be permanently bedridden, never to wake up again.”

“Th-That’s…”

“But it’s not all bad news. To cast such a powerful curse, you’d need to offer sacrifices in the thousands or possess a special cursed item, something of mythic proportions that could withstand Perfect Dispel. In other words…”

“Breaking the cursed item that the person who cursed Elder sister possesses…”

“Excellent response. If we can destroy the cursed item itself, the curse should naturally dissipate.”

While there might be doubts about whether such powerful cursed items were lying around, given the existence of mythological-level magical artifacts that could nullify my Super Analysis, it wouldn’t be surprising if there were similar cursed items. That said, the real issue was figuring out who possessed it, and with a rough idea, it shouldn’t be too hard to find the answer.

“The one most likely to possess the cursed item is…”

“Elder sister Saniya, right?”

“That’s the most probable. So here’s the thing. To confirm whether that’s correct or not, I’m going to visit the Second Princess alone.”

“Th-That’s dangerous! Besides, there’s no guarantee that Elder sister Saniya will meet with Rolando-san, is there?”

“No problem. I’ll make sure to visit without being noticed.”

Upon hearing Sara’s accusation that my plan sounded more like infiltration than a visit, Sanya then asked me a question.

“Rolando-sama, why are you going to such lengths to help us? I don’t mean to sound ungrateful, but I can’t see what benefit you would gain from helping us to this extent.”

Sanya’s observation was accurate. Regarding this incident, the only thing I had gained was the promise to remove the Dispel Stone’s barrier, and there were no other promised rewards. Additionally, as demons, they were originally considered hostile by humans. If they were to discover that I was human, Sanya would likely become even more skeptical of my assistance. However, if there was one thing I could say…

“It’s because I don’t like it.”

“You don’t like it?”

“That’s right. To be frank, I don’t care what happens to you. Are you my family? No. Are you more precious to me than my own life? No. Are you convenient tools I can use? No. So, the reason I’m helping you now isn’t because you’re you. If you were to ask what that reason is, it’s because I don’t like it. There’s no other reason.”

Yes, I disliked it. There was nothing more annoying than fools barging into the path I was treading. So, I would knock down such people. For the sake of my own beliefs…

And from here on out, I’d continue doing things my way. However, I’d rather not get involved in troublesome matters if I could help it. But, there were exceptions to everything, just like this situation. I intended to act considering the TPO (Time, Place, Occasion).

“Anyway, what I’m doing right now is for my own sake, not yours. Since I’m acting for my own sake, it’s beneficial enough from my perspective.”

“Fufufu, I somehow understand why Sara wants to rely on you.”

“Oh, Elder sister!”

Seemingly satisfied with my response, she smiled as she spoke. In response, Sara protested, but it seemed her protests weren’t making much of an impact.

The two maids, amused by this exchange, watch it unfold with smiles on their faces. The entire room is filled with a warm atmosphere.

“For now, Sanya’s illness is okay for two weeks. During that time, if we can somehow resolve the issue with the Second Princess, everything will be resolved.”

“Rolando-san, please don’t say cruel things like that again, okay?”

“Is it not allowed? It’s the quickest way, you know? Dead men tell no tales.”

“What are you talking about?”

Sanya asked, not understanding the content of my conversation with Sara. However, when Sara desperately tried to keep her from understanding by saying, “It’s nothing,” Sanya wore a puzzled expression.

“Well, let’s leave it at that regarding Sara’s sister. I’ll go check on the Second Princess for a moment.”

“Please wait, Rolando-sama.”

“What now, Sara’s sister?”

“That’s right. You’ve been calling me Sara’s sister, Sara’s sister all this time, but I have a proper name, Sanya.”

“So what?”

Though I actually understood what Sanya was getting at, I pretended not to understand. After all, I just didn’t want to call her by her name.

However, whether she knew my true feelings or not, she persisted in a rare, unwavering atmosphere, trying to get me to call her by her name.

“So please, call me Sanya, just like you call Sara.”

“Well, I’m going to visit the Second Princess now. Leave the rest to me.”

“Oh, please wait! … He got away.”

Unaware of Sanya’s calling after me, I quickly left the scene. Left behind were Sanya, puffing her cheeks cutely, and the others who smiled wryly as they watched her. There was no need to state the obvious.
