Chapter 224 - "In Preparation for the Tea Party 3"

“In Preparation for the Tea Party 3”

“I can’t believe I’m coming back here again…”

The place I escaped to from Byreus and the others was a mansion in the noble district of Orargrand. As you can probably tell from my tone, I’ve been here before.

When I approached the gate of the mansion, there was a different gatekeeper from the one I saw previously, and he had a puzzled expression on his face seeing a child like me coming here.

“Hey kid, this is the Rosenberg Duke’s mansion. If you don’t have any business here, leave immediately.”

“I have business with Fahren Rosenberg. Please let her know right away.”

“What business could a brat like you have with young Lady Fahren?”

“What’s with all the commotion?”

Just as the gatekeeper I was talking to started giving off a threatening aura, a familiar face appeared – Kukko Laurier, the Second Knights of the Kingdom’s 2nd Division Captain and Sub-Commander of the Rosenberg Household.

Seeing that it was me who had come, she openly frowned, clearly quite displeased. It seems I’ve made myself quite unpopular.

“It’s been a while, Kukkoro.”

“I told you not to call me by that name. Anyway, what do you want?”

“I came to see Fahren. Can you let her know I’m here?”

“…Follow me.”

Despite her brusque attitude, she agreed to take me to see Fahren. It seemed Fahren really chewed her out after last time.

With Kukkoro guiding me, we arrived at Fahren’s room. For some reason I didn’t understand, she was there kneeling to greet us. Both Kukkoro and I were so taken aback by this sudden development that we could only stare blankly for a moment, caught completely off guard.

“Welcome back. I’ve been waiting for you.”

“There’s something off about how you said that. This isn’t a place for me to come home to.”

“That’s just your opinion, isn’t it?”

Her line sounds familiar as if I’d heard it from a certain person on Earth before, but there was no way Fahren would know anything about people from Earth, so I’d like to think it was just a coincidence.

Since there was no time to waste debating our differences of opinion with Fahren, I ignored her words and got straight to the point.

“Anyway, I want to meet with Duke Dominique.”

“With Grandfather?”

“Yes. I could have gone to see him directly, but there was a chance he might have refused to meet me. So unfortunately I had to rely on you.”

Of course, I could have just gone directly to see Duke Dominique myself, but there was a possibility he would have turned me away. However, if his dear granddaughter Fahren intervened, there was no way he could refuse – that was my thinking.

Fahren seemed a little disappointed that I hadn’t actually come to see her, but she quickly perked back up at the chance to be helpful and took me to see the Duke.

After a short while, we arrived at the study where Duke Dominique spent most of his time. Fahren knocked on the door saying “It’s Fahren. I’m coming in,” and entered the room first alone.

“Oh, it’s you Fahren. What’s the matter?”

“Grandfather, there’s someone here who wants to meet with you.”

“…D-don’t tell me. I-is it your lover!?”

“Well, I do hope he’ll agree to be my future husband one day but…”

Even outside the room, my enhanced stats allowed me to clearly hear their conversation inside. It seems the Duke had misunderstood and thought Fahren had brought a lover to introduce to him. What a shame – there’s no way Fahren and I would ever be together. I intend to prevent such a future.

“All right, send him in.”

“Very well.”

Brought into the room, this was my first time meeting Duke Dominique face-to-face. He was an older gentleman perhaps in his 50s, with graying hair, but his sharp features and piercing gaze made it clear he was a distinguished member of the nobility.

Seeing my face, the Duke murmured in surprise “Oh, it’s you!” It seems he recognizes me.

“I’m honored to make your acquaintance, Duke Rosenberg. I am Rolando. I work as an adventurer. Today I’ve come with a request – I’m holding a tea party at my mansion, and was hoping I could borrow some extra help to assist with the guests.”

“I am Duke Dominique Von Rosenberg of the Rosenberg family. What’s this about a tea party?”

“Well, you see…”

Since time was of the essence, I explained the situation to the Duke. After hearing my explanation, he murmured “I see, yes that would be quite the affair,” and responded to my request.

“Very well. Given the circumstances, lending you some help shouldn’t be a problem. However, I do have one condition.”

“And what might that be?”

It was only natural he would ask for appropriate compensation in return for mobilizing members of a Duke’s household. So I had anticipated he might make some kind of demand.

As such, I didn’t have an issue with the Duke imposing conditions on me per se, but as it turned out, his condition had the potential to create new complications that would be a tremendous headache for me.

“This tea party is to be attended by Her Majesty the Queen and Her Highness the Princess, and hosted for a princess from a certain nation, correct? In that case, wouldn’t you require nobles to help support something of that scale?”

“Indeed.”

“Then how about allowing ladies from my house as well as the Byreus and Malbert families to participate in the tea party?”

“Hmm.”

The Duke’s proposal made sense. For a tea party involving members of the royal family, it would be perfectly normal for ladies of distinguished noble houses to participate in support. However, for me, this threatened to make things incredibly troublesome and complicated.

He had proposed allowing Duchess Clarice and my sister Laura from House Malbert, the Lady of House Byreus along with the three Byreus sisters Lauren, Rofa, and Rorie, as well as Dominique’s daughter-in-law and granddaughter and great-granddaughter Fahren from House Rosenberg to take part.

In terms of numbers, it would only increase the scale of the small tea party by a modest amount, and with reinforcements from the three noble houses, I should still somehow be able to manage even if things get a little more extravagant. Yet for some reason, the term “soap opera” popped into my mind.

“Very well, I accept your condition.”

“Excellent. Then I shall begin strictly screening candidates at once.”

After that, Dominique questioned my relationship with Fahren, but I asserted we were merely acquaintances while Fahren claimed I was her future partner. Yet again our difference of opinion led to a debate, but I pushed hard to establish we were nothing more than casual associates.

“I’ll leave it at that for now…just for ‘now’ mind you.”

“Well then Duke, I’ll be relying on your assistance going forward.”

“Understood. You can leave it to me.”

With that more or less settled, I decided to teleport once back to my mansion in the capital for the time being.
