Chapter 127: The Prince is in Trouble
“Ku ――― ya ――— shi ――― i ~i!!” [TN: Kuyashii implies regret. She just drags the word.]
“No, why would Nikaido be so disappointed after winning?”
I muttered half-heartedly to Nikaido, who was prostrating on the cafeteria table, staggering her feet. It was lunchtime now that PE class was over. Kaede and Otsuki had gone to pick some flowers, so Nikaido, Shinji and I moved to the cafeteria first. As soon as we arrived, Nikaido broke down like this.
“We won!? Aah, I won the game! But then I also lost the game! Do you understand this feeling, Yoshizumi!?”
“No, I don’t.”
“How can you not know!? Listen, Yoshizumi. I’m still known as the ace of the basketball team. I’m aware of that. And yet, I lost in the matchup against Kaede! This is exactly what I mean by winning the game and losing the match!”
Nikaido revealed her emotions by slamming the table with a bang. It was unusual for her to be so emotional. That shows how frustrating that match was.
Nikaido’s team won the heated match. Kaede put up a good fight, but the rest of her teammates were not up to the task. Rather, it was a difference in coordination.
The team was made up of equal numbers of students from the basketball and athletic teams to ensure that there was no inequality in strength, but the basketball team’s coordination provided an edge to Nikaido’s team. Nikaido did not take the initiative to attack, but rather acted as a commander while playing with the ball in order to keep Kaede and her team on their toes. In contrast, Kaede’s camp developed their tactics with Kaede as the cornerstone of their attack, but Nikaido thoroughly crushed them and dampened their scoring power. That was the deciding factor in the game.
“But they still made some three pointers and dribbled through me. I underestimated Kaede’s physical abilities…and more importantly, Yoshizumi’s… no, nothing.”
Nikaido plopped down on the table again, muttering weakly, “Damn”.
It was rare for Nikaido to display such a weak appearance. It might not have happened that much throughout the last year.
“… It’s all Yoshizumi’s fault.”
“How can that be!? Now you’re just being unreasonable!?”
“Shut up! It’s Yoshizumi’s fault for only cheering for Kaede! Why didn’t you cheer for me too!? It’s not fair!”
I didn’t know you’d call it unfair. It was not that I didn’t want to cheer for Nikaido, but I thought about it and couldn’t help myself from cheering for Kaede, whom I love. Shinji was cheering for Nikaido instead of me, you know?
“… Yoshizumi naturally fell in love with me… Damn!”
Nikaido banged on the table with more force than before. The students in the cafeteria looked on in wonderment as the usually dignified and cool prince of Meiwa-dai gets unusually upset.
“Thank you for waiting, Yuya-kun. What’s the matter, Ai-chan? Are you upset?”
Our savior, Kaede, had arrived. Kaede was smiling at Nikaido’s strange appearance, while Otsuki san, standing next to her, had a look of relief on her face.
“Yoshi told you a love story anyway, didn’t he? Isn’t that right, Shin-kun?”
“Haha. That’s Ai for you. Correct answer. It’s like Yuya gave Nikaido-san a bad blow when she was weakened?”
I poked Shinji in the head as he added, “You’re a demon.”
Who was the devil? And when did I say I love her. I just said that it was natural for me to support Kaede.
“Well… you’re still the same, Yoshi. And I’m sorry for your loss, Ai-chan.”
“Takumi, do you understand me? Uhh… thanks.”
Nikaido hugs Otsuki-san who pats Nikaido on the shoulder and comforts her. I didn’t know, it was very picturesque. While I was thinking about something silly, Kaede drops a bomb.
“Yuya-kun is not a devil! He can be a little mean at times, but that’s only in the bed!”
The air froze to absolute zero at the speed of light. Kaede, the source of the problem, was proud to say that she had done it.
