Chapter 131: Are Kaede and Nikaido the Strongest Combination?

“You’re getting too worked up, Yuya. It doesn’t matter if you’re in front of Hitotsuba-san, you’re taking it too seriously.”

We won the game successfully. Kaede left the field halfway through the game to get ready for the basketball game — Nikaido grabbed her by the neck — but she gave me more than enough power to win the game. There was no way we could lose this.

“Now that they’ve provided us with enough support, we have to support them too.”

“That’s right. Well, the combination of Kaede and Nikaido will not lose to a class led by a basketball team captain.”

In fact, our class with these two was the top candidate for the top spot. Kaede and Nikaido, for example, were like Son-Goku and Vegeta, or Ao-kun and Aka-kun from the Generation of Miracles fighting together. There was no way they could lose.

[TN: Ao-kun-Daiki Aomine and Aka-kun-Seijūrō Akashi are references to the Generation of Miracles from Kiseki no Sedai (Kuruko no basuke)]

“That’s not the point. Is there any place from where we can cheer? It’s a match that Kaede and Nikaido would be playing in, so the crowd must be amazing, right?”

A match with Kaede and Nikaido, two of the most beautiful girls representing Meiwadai High  School, would definitely be a popular card. It was the first match of the season, and I’m sure everyone wanted to see it. It wasn’t as if we couldn’t get into the gym, but I doubt we would be able to find a seat.

“Aah, that’s okay. I’ve already asked Akiho-chan to reserve a seat for us. Come on, let’s move quickly before Mogi and the others say something.”

Oh, that was a good idea. Since I’m not going to be participating in this ball game, I would be in the cheering section, so I can get a seat. But I didn’t think they’d got enough for Mogi and the others, so we would have to move before we got tangled up like Shinji said.

“I can’t wait to see what the two of them can do along with Yuya’s support! They might go on a rampage from the first game.”

“Aah… Kaede might be a possibility, but I wonder about Nikaido? I’d like to see how serious you  are, though.”

“You see, when Yuya cheers, “Nikaido, go for it”, I think that her morale would rise and she would probably enter the warrior-mode?”

Was there a status correction to my cheering? I mean, Nikaido was probably not that simple. I don’t think something this simple would turn her into a warrior.

“If you think so, why don’t you give it a try? I’m sure it’ll be great, right?”

“You can’t say that much. And that look on your face, you’re sure of it, aren’t you? Ara, let’s give it a try.”

Well, if that was what it took to make Kaede and Nikaido explode with energy and win the match, I would cheer for them all the way. That was, until my voice died down.

“No, that’s going to affect the rest of the game, so you’d better pull yourself together, okay?”

I know, Shinji! That’s how much I meant it when I said I’d put my heart into it! So don’t give me  that look of boredom!

*****

Even though it was before the game started, the gym was filled with a strange kind of excitement. The entrance was crowded with students who couldn’t get inside to catch a glimpse of the upcoming match. Was this how an idol concert hall seemed like?

“Shin-kun! Yoshi! Over here! Quickly! Quickly!”

I waded my way through the waves of people, and when I finally entered the gym, I heard Otsuki-san’s voice from above. I turned to look at her and saw her bouncing and waving her hands. But because of that, the fruit over Kaede’s seemed to be in serious trouble, and the boys’ eyes were focused on it.

“… match.”

Shinji clicked his tongue quietly and smiled, as anger radiated from his body. The boys,  pressured by his silent pressure, averted their gazes. It was a good thing that Shinji was so possessive.

“It’s because you look at people’s girlfriends in a strange way. Yuya would be annoyed if someone looked at Hitotsuba-san like that, right? It’s the same thing.”

Aah, yes. If there was a man nearby who looked at Kaede in such a disgusting way, I would  probably give him the eye that Taka-san usually had. If that didn’t stop that person—well, that would be for when such a thing happens.

“Aah… please don’t let them get hurt, okay?”

Shinji said with a drawn out smile. I didn’t know what you were talking about, Shinji. I’m a kind and gentlemanly man, you know? I would never do anything violent like that, would I?

“Both of you! What the h**l are you doing! Come on, come on, come on! Hurry up! ASAP!”

We were told to come (A S A P) as soon as possible, so Shinji and I rushed to Otsuki-san’s side. She had secured the second floor of the gymnasium as her cheering section. It was the best place to watch the game, where you could see the whole court from a bird’s eye view.

“Huh-uh. What do you think, Yoshi? From here, we’ll be able to see all of Kaede and Ai-chan’s  activities, right? So cheer them on with all your might!?”

I nodded with a chuckle as I pointed my index finger at her!? I nodded my head with a wry smile  as Otsuki-san asked me if I got it. You were really into it, Otsuki-san.

“Of course! If we win the men’s and women’s championships, we can eat all the yakiniku we want!? Of course I’ll cheer for them with all my might!”

[TN: Yakiniku-Grilled Meat]

“If that’s the case, why weren’t you cheering for us, or rather Shinji? The boys have to win too,  right?”

“Ah, the boys are fine. Shin, of course, but after Kaede’s cheering, Yoshi’s ability value had been  increased to the maximum. It was the so-called ‘Ore Tueeee’?”

[TN: Ore Tueeee-I am so strong]

There was no way that one cheer could make you that strong. At least give me a hug, come to think of it, I got a hug from behind before the game. If that was the case, it made sense, yeah.

“Already, Aiko-chan and Yuya, stop talking nonsense and watch the court. The match is about to start.”

When Shinji urged me to look at the court, I saw the players of our second year second group along with Kaede and Nikaido, lined up in the middle of the court. The opposing team was the third year fourth group, led by the captain of the basketball team. A fierce battle between the  championship candidates was about to begin from the first game.

“Kaede! Ai-chan! Everyone hang in there!!!”

Otsuki-san cheered. I have to call out too—!

“Kaede—!! Hang in there… !!”

Kaede responded to my voice, smiled and gave me a V-sign. She seemed to be fully motivated and energetic. Nikaido, who was standing next to her, also turned her head toward us. Her eyes seemed to be saying, “Don’t you have anything for me?” It seemed as if she was asking, “Do I have nothing”. I had no choice.

“Nikaido!! Bite him! Don’t lose!!”

As soon as I finished, I thrust out my fist. When Nikaido saw this, she smiled fearlessly and raised a small fist as he turned away. As if to say, “Leave it to me”.

“Good luck, Kaede, Nikaido.”

I muttered a prayer and the ball flew into the air at the same time as the whistle sounded to start  the game.
