Episode 23: The Number One Line You Wouldn’t Want to Hear in Real Life

It’s Monday after the vacation.

The four of us (me, Cheena, Soji, and Akimoto) were having lunch around Soji’s seat, as usual.

Soji and Akimoto had homemade lunch boxes.

Cheena and I, as usual, had our lunches from a convenience store… not… but actually Angie’s homemade lunch for today…

Angie can cook, despite her appearance.

She says she wanted to do something motherly when she’s back home, so she’s been bringing me lunch lately.

It’s nice of her to take care of me and cook for me.

But Angie, you need to stop trying to consume your souvenirs.

Don’t put marmite instead of dressing. I can’t eat it.

Even though the lunches were usually delicious, Cheena and I struggle with the landmines that were sprinkled in moderation every day.

Today, as we were carefully eating, Akimoto suddenly opened her mouth.

“Huh? If you look closely, you’ll see that Kagami-kun and Cheena-chan are wearing matching bracelets!”

That’s right, she noticed that Cheena and I were wearing matching bracelets.

I’m sure girls would notice things like this.

I’m also sure that Soji noticed it anyway.

“Well… Cheena bought it using the money from her part-time job. She gave it to me as a thank you gift.”

I’m not going to lie to you, so I’ll keep it short and simple, but Akimoto was looking at me with her eyes twinkling, clearly wanting to ask me some questions.

In fact, I’ve been feeling similar stares all morning.

When I dared to pretend not to notice Akimoto’s interest, Soji now interjected.

“I wonder if there’s any… fallout? If it ends up being a love story, I won’t understand.”

“There was no fallout, and I’m not in love with you!”

『What are you talking about?』

『Akimoto says the bracelet is cute…』

(T/N: 『』 spoken in Russian)

This is how we are, the four of us.

Today, I’m working on another bleak meal.

I suddenly became curious about one thing so I asked Soji.

“Hey Soji, do you know Sawai from the third year?”

I had a sudden urge to ask him about Sawai, the senior the basketball team had been talking about.

Was it a sign of foreboding?

Well, everyday conversations were full of such trivial triggers, and it would be a perfect topic for discussion.

“Sawai? I don’t know that guy. If you want to talk about the basketball team, ask Akimoto.”

“You know about him! Tell me honestly!”

What are you talking about, can you eat it? Soji said as if brushing off the topic aside.

But this guy was always on the lookout for information about celebrities so he can stir people up.

It’s written in the textbook that you should ask Soji about this kind of thing.

There was no way he didn’t know that.

Seeing the expression on my face, he seemed to have given up, and gave me the information.

“Sigh… Daisuke Sawai of 3rd year, class 2. He’s the ace of the basketball club and popular with women. That’s why he had a bad habit. So far, he made eight girls cry…”

“Wait, wait, wait, wait! It’s just like hitting the dust.”

(T/N: Hit the dust means the thing you’re talking about failed miserably. In this case, base on the concept, Iori was saying that his expectations of ‘Sawai’ shattered.)

I was in a hurry because the conversation turned out to be five thousand times heavier than I expected.

It wasn’t just because he’s a senpai who’s really good at basketball.

Isn’t the population of this school too low?

There are no decent people here!

“Come to think of it, there was a time I was pestered too, right?”

Akimoto, who was in the basketball club, said gloomily.

The fact that both Akimoto and I were in the basketball club made it easy for me to talk to her, and she’s a little cute.

I’m sure he turned her down based on the current atmosphere, but isn’t Sawai a popular guy?

I was a little curious, so I asked her.

“Didn’t you think this Sawai guy was cool or something? He’s popular, right?”

“He’s just tall, that’s all. Even his muscles were fat compared to yours, Kagami.”

“How can muscle be fat…?”

Well, Akimoto had a muscle fetish.

Poor Sawai-san. Amen. (T/N: I’m not supposed to laugh but poor Sawai hahaha)

“He’s always trying to get cute girls, so be careful, Cheena-chan.”

Akimoto talked to Cheena as the conversation was going on.

The tone of her voice exuded an air of genuine concern.

Akimoto was kind. Though having a muscle fetish.

“Akimoto told you to watch out for a senpai named Sawai who was picking up girls.”

“Sawai? I understand. I’ll be careful.”

I finished the rest of my lunch while translating for Cheena.

Yabai! I’ve eaten Marmite!

(T/N: Yabai/yabe is a Japanese slang when you felt something awful or great. Literally means ‘oh no’, ‘crazy’ or ‘wow’.

Poor Iori, accidentally eating marmite. I don’t even want to imagine what would marmite taste like hahaha.)

The classroom suddenly became noisy as I was pouring the deleterious substance down my throat with tea.

It seems that someone has arrived.

Is it Shiori? Is it that girl again? Should I change where I eat?

(T/N: Who do you think came? Suspense~~ [evil laugh])
