Chapter 10: Death

After making this hand gesture, Wen Qingying shifted his eyes, and unexpectedly saw Tao Ling standing by the entrace.

When both of their eyes met, the anger that Wen Qingying had worn on his face vanished away. Although it was gradual, it happened in an extremely natural manner.

That man followed Wen Qingying’s sight and turned his head, thus allowing Tao Ling to see clearly his appearance. The other party was very robust and handsome; leastwise he didn’t look like he would compel nor force Wen Qingying to do something.

Just as Tao Ling was on the verge of stepping inside the shop, the sports car window on the street rolled down suddenly, revealing a gorgeous-looking face such as that of a celebrity poster.

Unawared, Tao Ling raised his eyebrows and wondered, are they filming a drama or what?

That woman glanced at him and then immediately averted her eyes. Although there was no obvious contempt, a trace of belittling could still be seen.

You’re a commoner.

Tao Ling could almost turn her attitude into language.

“Bai, let’s go.” The woman called out in a low voice.

Nevertheless the man in the black suit knew her extremely well. He could recognize the command even if he didn’t hear it clearly, and just replied politely, “Understood, Young Mistress.”

Wen Qingying stood still with a blank face. He soon made a few more hand gestures and then droppedii his arms. He no longer paid attention to the man before his eyes, or did he give a single glance to that car.

Tao Ling could read his behaviour. He didn’t want to deal with the woman outside at all.

Upon receiving Wen Qingying’s response, he froze for a moment. Then he bowed down, and turned around to leave the shop. Even when passing Tao Ling he kept his eyes straight ahead and simply got on the driver’s seat.

The woman on the back seat wore a disdainful arrogant look on her face. She shot a glance to Wen Qingying in an indescribable fierceness. However, it wasn’t something as simple as hatred, but rather like…

Before Tao Ling could figure out what it was like, the car window was already closing up slowly, covering everything inside the car.

After witnessing this strange scene, Tao Ling couldn’t help being at a loss for words. He then suddenly remembered the scratch on Wen Qingying’s neck. Perhaps the woman who came to see him last time was her.

What kind of love-hate relationship is this that’s so hard to let go of? Not to mention, this was a love-hate relationship between rich people.

Perhaps it’s the eighteen basins (days) of dog blood, splashing the entire surface of the wall, no, the entire villa.

When the car drove off, Tao Ling was extremely curious. But because he had to follow his main principle of minding his own business, he didn’t ask any questions when he entered the shop.

Although there was still a blank expression on Wen Qingying’s face, he no longer seemed as cold as before. Picking up a big bouquet of daisies that were already wrapped, he passed it over to Tao Ling.

“Mister, I already got it ready for you.” A slip of paper was also attached to it.

Tao Ling had carried them when he passed from here yesterday afternoon. However, the flowers that were currently in front of him were the freshest, fullest ones as they were chosen with the utmost care.

Tao Ling raised a smile before walking to the entrance to scan the QR code. After finishing paying, he turned around, and saw Wen Qingying holding the same bouquet of flowers in his hands.

As he raised his eyebrows in confusion, Wen Qingying passed over his phone. On it, showed words that were already written in advance: “I want to see my mother too. Can I go there with mister?”

Tao Ling nodded, and then shifted his gaze to the empty flower stands outside the shop. The flowers have not yet been brought out for display.

Besides the first glance that Tao Ling had taken in the beginning, there was nothing off with Wen Qingying’s facial expression. Nevertheless Tao Ling didn’t know whether he was just imagining things but he felt that Wen Qingying was very unhappy.

With the type of extreme unhappiness.

It was his first time taking the metro with a deaf-mute person. Tao Ling had been watching Wen Qingying throughout the entire trip. But for the greatest part, Wen Qingying looked like someone robust who was just deeply absorbed in thought, and therefore behaved perfectly normal—with the exception that he never looked around nor budged from any noise, but that was basically it.

In the end, Tao Ling still feared that Wen Qingying wouldn’t be able to hear the alarm sound which could lead to an accident. As such, he made sure to pull him whenever getting on and off the transportations, taking care of him intentionally or otherwise. Wen Qingying didn’t refute either. Whenever Tao Ling asked him to go left he would go left. Whenever he brought him forwards he would go forwards——and this made him extremely obedient.

After getting off the bus, Tao Ling suddenly thought, how nice would it be if he was my own little brother. Even if I become an older brother of someone disabled, I would definitely do a better job than Tao Jun.

Because he was lost in distraction, he forgot to release the hand holding Wen Qingying’s wrist.

When they approached a lampost, Wen Qingying stood behind two steps away in order to not bump into him. As such, his hand was forced to pull away from the other party’s grip, causing Tao Ling to finally realize what he was doing.

He let go of his hand and said nothing. Wen Qingying casually took two steps forward to catch up to him.

It was already past ten by the time they arrived at the cemetery.

Except for the day when Tao Jun got buried three years ago, this was the first time that Tao Ling had visited the cemetery with someone else.

They slowly walked up the stairs and then reached the three-way junction they’d hit last time. Tao Ling originally thought Wen Qingying would continue walking ahead, however, the latter was still following behind him.

He turned his head and immediately met his eyes. The other blinked, appearing like he was seeking his opinions.

“Let’s go.” Tao Ling grinned.

The gravestone was as clean as before. Tao Ling could confirm that Xia Chaoyang definitely came when it rained that day.

It’s just that the flowers he bought have long been disposed of. He didn’t know which dark corner they got abandoned. Perhaps the flower petals that were once clean and pure were currently perishing into dark remains. And starting from anywhere, they will disintegrate into the soil little by little, gradually moving towards death.

It takes much longer to reach death than to bloom into a pretty flower. As if being weak was the reality.

But every person was afraid to face the reality.

Tao Ling turned his head. Seeing that Wen Qingying was looking carefully at the picture on the gravestone, he smiled and asked without expecting a reply, “We look exactly the same, right?”

Wen Qingying stood by the gravestone for a while. He soon took a look at Tao Ling before bending down and politely placing the flowers in front of the monument.

“Tao Jun, the handsome guy I mentioned before came to gift you flowers. The flowers this time were tied up very nicely.” Tao Ling said, “I won’t be giving you the ones in my hands then, but instead I’m giving them to the handsome guy’s mother. I guess you both can be regarded as neighbors. If you guys happen to meet each other down there, ask auntie, ask her how she gave birth to such a good-looking son.”

Wen Qingying watched as Tao Ling talked, his head angled. The latter was still looking at the gravestone, thinking aloud, “Did someone visit you a few days ago? His name is Xia Chaoyang. Who is he? He seems to care about you a lot, but he didn’t even know that you died already. He got wet in the rain that day, right? Do you feel happy about that? You’re such a revengeful petty man.”

The cool breeze swept past the arborvitae trees, and the rustling sounds seemed to be replying to him.

After staying for a little half an hour, Tao Ling muttered a few more words to himself before beginning to fall silent. In the end, he poked at Wen Qingying’s shoulder and pointed at the upper part of the cemetery.

Wen Qingying got the message. As such, he bowed down at the gravestone and then walked up with Tao Ling.

It was separated from Tao Jun’s grave by two rows of gravestones, and four trees staggered horizontally. Tao Ling saw Wen Qingying’s mother behind a giant arborvitae shrub.

It was a very beautiful lady. The facial features were gorgeously vivid, eyebrows softly touched. Wen Qingying looked extremely like her. Tao Ling looked at the date inscribed on the monument, and found out that she was quite young when she passed away——living to the age of forty-five.

The monument was from three years ago. Only a month earlier than Tao Jun.

Someone anonymous had arrived here before them. The center of the gravestone was placed with a big bouquet of fresh flowers. The lilies and white roses lively harmonized together. But they were probably not delivered today morning as droplets of water were hanging down on the flowers.

Just as Tao Ling was fixating his eyes on the gravestone, Wen Qingying suddenly stepped forward and picked up those flowers before proceeding to throw them on the ground.

This action even seemed a little aggressive.
