[To the Archive Room]
Before tracing the mana Madeline had left on the book inside the library, I decided to regroup with Raul and the others–just in case that Madeline had really been kidnapped, and that the perpetrator’s real target wasn’t her but one of us; they might be waiting to ambush us. With our positions, the odds were quite high.
Malina getting kidnapped in the Salencia Kingdom had left me kind of traumatized.
I had managed to rescue her safely back then, so all’s well that ends well, but it had made me realize that I had to be more careful… In this case, too, I suspected that 《The One Who Knows the Truth of This World》was behind it.
Anyway, after regrouping with Raul and the others, we followed Madeline’s mana, and it led us to…
“Isn’t this… the archive room?”
In the library, which any student could enter, there was only one place that only a very limited number of people were allowed to enter, and that was the archive room.
“So Madeline just went inside the archive…?”
“What a plot twist.”
It was no wonder that Tayte and Jarvis were disappointed.
We all had thought that Madeline had gone to the rumored underground library, yet it seemed that it was just the library’s archive room.
I had no idea how Madeline got in, but it would be difficult for us to do so, having no authorization. Even if we were to ask for permission, it wouldn’t be easily gran–
“Come on, what are you waiting for?”
While I was mired in my thoughts, Ms. Teixeira opened the archive door and called us.
…Ms. Teixeira?
“Ah!”
How could I forget?
Ms. Teixeira must be one of those few allowed to enter the archive!
“But can we really just waltz in there?”
Andrei anxiously asked Ms. Teixeira. Honestly, I was worried about the same point, but…
“It’s okay.”
Ms. Teixeira dismissed our concerns.
“You are a few of the most talented students of Astor Academy and are with the student council… You are fully qualified to enter the archive room.”
“Ms. Teixeira…”
To hear she recognized us to that extent made me… kind of happy.
“Let’s go, I’ll show you around.”
Feeling relieved, we stepped into the archive room following Ms. Teixeira’s lead.
Inside we found ourselves in—another world.
“W-wow…”
The space was clearly many times larger than the library itself—created using special space magic, according to Ms. Teixeira. There were rows of bookshelves containing books, old tomes, and scrolls as far as the eye could see.
As I was at a loss for words at the fantastical sight, I realized something; I could no longer sense Madeline’s mana.
“T-this…”
“Are we going to search for Madeline in such a vast space?”
“It’s going to be back-breaking…”
Raul, Eureka, and Kleine’s expressions twitched.
With the space even bigger than the library and our only lead gone, finding Madeline here would be an almost impossibly difficult task.
“It looks like we’ll have to split up and search separately.”
“Then I’ll try to find if she’s left any traces of her mana here.”
“Please do, Ms. Teixeira.”
And thus, our search for Madeline was back to square one.
–But we were definitely getting closer to her.
That was what my hunch told me.
