[The Principal’s Decision]
The academy’s original purpose, as revealed by Principal Abigail, left us all in shock—apparently, it was established to safeguard something underground.
“So, this ‘something’ underground will also be relocated?” I inquired, my voice a bit shaky.
The principal nodded silently, and a sense of unease settled in the air. “We had anticipated that someone might exploit the gap during the relocation process to steal it. Perhaps… the kidnapping of Jarvis and Madeline is somehow connected.”
“That’s…”
Who kidnapped Jarvis and Madeline and for what purpose?
And why target those two specifically?
There should be no reason to target them since they had lost their noble statu–
“Ah.”
Something came to mind in the middle of my train of thoughts.
“Principal…I can’t say for sure whether or not it is related, but there is something in common between Jarvis and Madeline.”
“What?”
Hearing my words, the eyes of not only the principal but also the others all turned to me.
“They are both former nobles. In the wake of the incident during last year’s academy festival, the heads of their families were stripped of their titles, but…”
“Their daughters remain in the academy.”
The fact that Jarvis and Madeline were able to remain at the academy was largely due to Principal Abigail’s efforts. But they were also the main cause for the heads of their families to lose their positions.
Could this be their act of revenge?
Parent and child were bound by a simple but unbroken relationship, but there were too many special circumstances in noble society. If they had been leading an elegant life without any wants and completely different from that of commoners only to suddenly lost everything… we couldn’t rule out the possibility that they would lose their calm judgement and turn their fangs against the girls, even if they were their own children.
But it seemed that the academy had prepared countermeasure for this.
“Just to be safe, the knights have been keeping tabs on them since they lost their titles. But there have been no reports of suspicious activities.”
That kind of information got passed on to the principal too, huh. Then again, she had the duty to protect the safety of the students.
However, this meant that the former heads of both families weren’t likely involved in this kidnapping incident.
――or so I thought, but…
“But you’ve a point… it’s suspicious that it’s those two specifically that got kidnapped. We should keep that possibility in mind.”
The knights were apparently already in the underground testing facility to search for the kidnapped Jarvis and Madeline. She was probably going to inform them about this, but…
“…Um, Principal.”
“You don’t need to say it, Barrett.”
As I was about to make a proposal, the principal had already anticipated my thoughts.
“Everyone, come with me. We need every bit of manpower available right now. If this is a crime aimed at the thing sleeping underground, then we’ll have to enlist the help of you, the Knights of the Academy.”
To the principal’s words, we all responded with a resounding “Yes!”
And so, we made our way to the mysterious underground of the academy in search of Jarvis and Madeline.
