Chapter 12: Unexpected Turn of Event (2)

The joy in Ye Ke’s heart was indescribable. Though what he wanted was a machete, this tactical assault knife proved more than enough for his wholesome self. Luck surely favored him today.

Mad Dog tactical assault knife had the hardness and flexibility. To add on, it also had a certain heat and corrosion resistance.

There was a test done about it being modded. One test was to insert the assault knife in between two pieces of wood. It’d be lengthy and the handle would be used as a grip. The tester who weighed about 100 kg. found that after multitudes of testing, the knife hadn’t shown any distortion or damage.

After finding what he needed, Ye Ke turned around and headed back to his dorm. Half a day had already passed and he was pent up and out energy. It had been a while since his last meal. His rationale told him to go back. He didn’t have the physical strength to go on for the rest of the day. Thankfully, his first loot was successful.

After pulling his body over the bathroom window, he moved towards the balcony, jumped, and headed towards another room.

“Brother, be careful!”

Ye Ke put one hand on the window frame and slid it open, ready to pull his body over till he was startled by a loud roar on the opposite side. His hand reflex drew back, swiftly closed the window while staggering backwards.

It was an infected.

Its pupils were as dry as the bark of a tree. Its chin was covered with coagulated blood. The filthy thing could only stretch out its hand to scratch the window, attempting to scratch everything in its path wildly while a low kind of groan escaped its mouth.

Though his legs grew soft from fear, he quickly squatted down, not wanting to risk anything. He shifted his body and moved swiftly to the balcony and jumped over the railings, quickly clasping the railings with both hands.

He could still hear that monster groaning and trying in vain.

Ye Ke found that the left side of his body was trembling uncontrollably.

Ye Ke went into another room, checked if there were any signs of those things before going in. He quickly moved towards the kitchen, his body swaying back and forth like that of a drunkard. Pots and pans sprawled all over the kitchen greeted him. Then he hit the water dispenser. Breathing heavily, he turned it on and splashed water on his face.

Seconds later, he slammed his back against the wall gasping for breath while he turned his head and looked at the infected from the outside windows still attempting to reach him in vain.

The face of the monster grew blurred and Ye Ke could only discern its pale eyes, bloody nose, and mouth. It had lost all its nerves and pain. It banged its head on the window tirelessly.

Whether this monster lost its humanity just recently or during the first outbreak, he doesn’t know. All he knows was that he’d almost become a sacrifice for that thing’s pleasure.

His panic calmed when Ye Ke found the thing was unable to make its way through. Though strong, it had the intelligence of an ant. Its body rocked like a seesaw and wanted to get out tirelessly.

“Thank you, brother.” Ye Ke gulped and replied in a somewhat audible volume to the other’s warning.

There was no reply.

He got up. Watched the infected from the distance. Sighing heavily, he washed his face once more, drank a bottled water, and stabilized the state of his mind.

Ye Ke jumped over to the other railing where he the guy he saw earlier stood on the balcony making helicopter sounds.

Ye Ke saw him laid on the bed indulging himself to his needs. On the tiles was a yellowish pool of liquids, its stench rather horrendous.

Ye Ke gasped for breath.

Some people have begun to abandon themselves. They think to themselves that they can’t leave any longer so they go on living the rest of their unknown lives deranged.

Turning his head, Ye Ke continued moving forwards.

When he returned, Ye Ke saw Wang Hao vomiting endlessly on the toilet as if all his internal organs would come out.

“What’s wrong, Wang Hao?” Seeing the scene, Ye Ke quickly pulled his body over the window frame and grabbed Wang Hao’s shoulder.

When Wang Hao looked up, his face was pale, eyes dark and baggy, lips cracked, and his skin ever so cold.

“Probably ate something bad. After you left, I wanted to vomit as soon as possible.” Wang Hao’s face was really pale without traces of blood, his pupils were much wider than the usual, and he looked on the verge of passing out.

Ye Ke’s body stiffened when he saw Wang Hao’s current state of being.

“Ah, that’s probably why. Wang Hao, you go take a rest first. I found a lot of food and some medicine. I’ll see if you can use it.”

Ye Ke wasn’t sure what to do.

Wang Hao was already infected from the looks of it.
