A few minutes later, Lucia loosened her grip on me slightly.

“Finally giving up?”

“No… it’s just that my brain feels like a fuckin pile of mush right now for some reason.”

Lucia said after yawning a little.

“Have you been staying up late recently, Lucia?”

“Yeah, Abjuration homework has somehow become more of a pain in the ass lately. Frankly, I didn’t think that was even possible in the first place, but here we are.”

Lucia remarked with a smidge of annoyance present in her voice before yawning again and stretching her arms a bit.

“Anyhow, Otto… do you mind if we settle this thing some other time? My eyelids are kinda revolting against the rest of my body right now...”

“Sure, I don’t mind.”

“Great…”

Lucia said drowsily before nestling her head in my chest.

“…You never seem to ask for permission when it comes to this sort of thing, now do you?”

I mumbled quietly to myself before helping Lucia get into a more comfortable position.

In turn, Lucia just smiled and buried her face deeper into my chest.

Which made it harder for me to conceal the fact that my heart was currently beating at a rapid pace.

“Hey Otto… your heart’s beating pretty quickly right now. Kinda feels like I’m trying to doze off in the middle of an earthquake.”

Lucia said in a playful tone before looking up at me with a cheeky grin on her face.

“Again, so is yours.”

I refuted.

“I guess, but I’m pretty sure my face is not as red as yours right now.”

“...I can’t help it alright? I’m not as good as you when it comes to handling physical affection.”

“Yeah, I know. Though, I can’t say that I really mind. I kinda like watching you squirm, it always makes me feel slightly more energized for whatever reason.”

“Were you sent by some sort of demon to torment me for the rest of my life?”

I asked with a smidge of indignation in my voice.

“Even if I were, I’m pretty sure that you wouldn’t mind.”

“…”

“I’ll take that silence as confirmation.”

“Whatever.”

I said flatly before averting eye contact with Lucia.

“Anyway, I think I’m gonna try and catch up on some sleep now. Do you mind being my personal pillow for a while longer, Otto?”

“No, not really.”

I replied before gently sifting my fingers through Lucia’s hair.

“Good.”

Lucia replied with a smirk on her face before giving me a quick peck on the neck and fully collapsing onto my chest.

“...You’re doing this on purpose now, aren’t you?”

“Can’t hear you, currently sleeping.”

“You’re lucky that you’re cute.”

I said before sighing softly and continuing to run my fingers through Lucia’s hair.

In response, Lucia just closed her eyes and started to drift off to sleep.

And a few seconds later, she was fast asleep.

Which made me feel a bit envious, as even when I’m on the verge of dying of sleep deprivation, it takes at least an hour or two for me to fall asleep.

“And you say that I’m carefree.”

I said quietly to myself before grabbing ahold of the book that sat on top of the stack of papers positioned next to my bed.

It was titled “The Fall of Baronth” and much to my dismay, appeared to be one of the more educational texts that I had in my possession.

Regardless, I still decided to crack it open, as there weren’t any other books near me, and I wasn’t too keen on waking up Lucia just so I could get my hands on a better reading material.

The first few sentences in the novel laid out what the rest of the text would focus on, the events that led to the disintegration of a country that apparently existed at some point in this world.

“As if I couldn’t figure that out just by reading the title.”

I mumbled before absentmindedly skimming through the first couple of pages in the novel and continuing to run my fingers through Lucia’s hair.

In turn, Lucia unconsciously tightened her grip on my shirt and moved a bit closer to my neck.

Which made it essentially impossible for me to continue reading through the novel.

As I couldn’t really focus on the dry prose present in the novel with Lucia breathing softly on my neck.

“It seems as if even when she’s sleeping, she’s cognizant of where my weak points are… I can’t say that I’m really complaining though.”

I said softly before giving up on reading the novel and simply tossing it to the side.

Then I tentatively wrapped my arms around Lucia, to return the favor.

And while at first I was a bit worried about whether or not I was doing this correctly, these feelings quickly left my body when I felt Lucia pull me in closer a couple seconds later.

Which in turn made it easier for me to feel Lucia’s warmth, much to my pleasure.

Unfortunately, this sensation didn’t last that long, as a few moments later, the school’s lunch bells rang and roused Lucia awake.

“Ugh… it’s that fuckin time of day already?”

Lucia said in a groggy tone before moving her head off my chest and rubbing her eyes a little.

“I’m afraid so.”

“I don’t really feel like getting up though…”

“I can’t say that I really want to get up, either.”

“Well… then how about we stay like this a while longer and just grab something from one of the food bins later for lunch? I’m pretty sure the school never has those things shut down.”

Lucia suggested before moving her face a bit closer to mine.

“I guess we could do that, but are you really okay with not being punctual for the first time in your life?”

I said playfully.

“Oh, just be quiet.”

Lucia replied, before gently tapping my forehead with her own and once again wrapping her arms around me.

In response, I simply said nothing and decided to just resume snuggling with her.
