It was a bit of a stretch to say that her husband was simply sulking. The more accurate description would be that he was reacting to a blow to his pride, or strengthening the wall before his heart.

But for Amber, she couldn’t consider the 10 years younger Kalix in front of her to be anything other than sulking.

“I admit I misspoke just now,” Amber decided to just admit her fault. The person she was referring to was the husband from her previous life, not the man currently in front of her eyes.

‘Even though in the end they’re both the same person… this is really confusing.’ Amber tried her best to differentiate the husband in her previous life from the man in front of her right now, when Kalix slowly raised his head. He repeatedly opened and closed his mouth like he wanted to say something.

As Amber nodded at him with the most charitable expression she could muster, Kalix finally spoke. “Was it not that you didn’t think of me as a trustworthy man?”

“A trustworthy man?”

“It’s nothing. Please forget it.” Kalix immediately shook his head and dismissed it.

Amber narrowed her eyes and studied his expressions while Kalix avoided her gaze and stared at the empty air next to him.

‘An untrustworthy man? Did I really say anything like that?’ She wanted to question Kalix further, but he didn’t seem willing to speak on the topic again so she quickly gave up.

A few minutes of awkward silence passed between them.

“The reason why I’m asking you to send an invitation,” It was always Amber who broke the silence between them. Her voice rang across the quiet dining hall. “Is because the esteemed daughter of the Freya family holds the method to solving the food shortage crisis.”

“The esteemed daughter of the Freya family!?” Kalix was extremely surprised. “I heard that she just turned sixteen this year. She’s likely too young to know of a solution so solve the food shortage…”

“Please listen to what I have to say.” At the surprise driven gap in his defenses, Amber quickly dug in to explain her reasoning.

Even Kalix, who initially had a dubious expression on his face, started to show signs of understanding and acceptance after hearing her explanation out. “If it’s that, then…” Of course, he didn’t completely trust Amber’s plan just yet, but at that moment, he saw value in giving it a try. “I understand. I shall prepare an invitation then.”

Amber let out a sigh of relief and smiled.

Kalix stared at her smile as if he was mesmerized yet again.

“But Madam, how were you able to learn of this?” Kalix politely coughed before asking as he fiddled with the stem of his wine glass.

“My father’s mercantile connections are wide and bring in a wide range of information.” Since Amber couldn’t outright say that it was what she saw in the future, she once again used her father’s connections as an excuse. “Viscount Liart’s mercantile business does well outside the kingdom and throughout the continent as well. Thanks to that, I was able to learn precious information gleaned from here and there, though I didn’t realize it would be beneficial for the Eastern Lands until now.”

“I see.” Even though Amber was spinning circles with her words, Kalix once again unhesitatingly believed her.

Rather, Amber’s expression was filled with unease. Though she had successfully tricked Kalix, she still felt anxious. Her mind was filled with thoughts of her home, the Viscounty Liart.

‘I wonder what Father is doing right now.’ Before Amber left the household to get married, she got into a huge fight with her parents. She was deeply disappointed that her parents would sell her off instead of her older sister and was in absolute despair at her situation.
