- ‘Hooowl!’ – a fierce howl echoed, giving the signal for the Fanged Wolves to attack.

The pack sprinted towards its prey. The Fanged Whitemane Wolf ran at the front, with two Fanged Wolves running beside it on each side. One of the five Fanged Wolves was dealt with, so there were five monsters left in total, including the boss monster. However, Narias’s team was one person down as well. So, the dungeon wolves still outnumbered the students by one. That didn’t phase the Dungeon Diving Squad in the least.

“Here they come!” Flavia shouted, yet wasn’t reckless to rush forward by herself this time.

“Ice Shards,” Emilia cast her stronger spell.

“Fire Wall,” Narias was done messing around also.

Emilia targeted the most left Fanged Wolf from her side, while Narias cast his Fire Wall directly in the middle of the monsters running path. He knew the monsters won’t appreciate getting their furs burned.

Narias’s and Emilia’s duo attack worked to some extent. The Fanged Wolf that Emilia targeted was much faster than before. It quickly jumped to the side to avoid being frozen by the Ice Shards spell. Fortunately, Narias’s Fire Wall spell burned fiercely, ripping the ground in a straight line in front of him, breaking the wolf pack’s formation as a result.

Two Fanged Wolves, together with the much bigger boss monster, jumped to one side while the other two Fanged Wolves had to quickly dash to the opposite side. None of the monsters were caught in the fire, but the Fire Wall did what it was supposed to do.

That’s when Growly and Flavia took action. Since the pack was now separated, the physically stronger students could engage the monsters head on with much lower risk. It was one on one for Growly and Flavia. Both of them didn’t hesitate to use the little time they had to deal with the Fanged Wolves in front of them. However…

- ‘Smack! Paw!’ – they landed a hit on the wolves each, but this time, it wasn’t enough to take them down.

“What? They should’ve been dead,” Flavia exclaimed after seeing the Fanged Wolf picked itself up after her hit.

“Attack again,” Growly wanted to attack again, but they were out of time. The Fire Wall spell was about to end, and rushing after the Fanged Wolves could’ve put them in danger of being jumped by the other monsters.

Right at the same exact time, Narias and Emilia had to focus on fighting the three monsters on their side. The injuries on the Fanged Whitemane Wolf didn’t seem to affect the monster’s movement. If anything, it looked like the boss monster was much faster than before.

“Wind Bullet,” Narias tried to keep the huge wolf at bay.

He already knew his Wind Blade spell won’t be fast enough to hit the monster. However, as fast as his Wind Bullet was, it still lacked power. The Fanged Whitemane Wolf’s hide was much tougher than he expected it would be. Even if Narias managed to land a hit with his Wind Bullet spell, the spell wasn’t powerful enough to penetrate the beast’s flesh. Fortunately, the attack was still good enough to force the boss monster to flee from being hit by it. A scratch was still a scratch. And Narias knew his spell must’ve hurt at the very least.

In the meantime, Emilia was going all out against the other two Fanged Wolves. They were much faster, and she knew the monsters were at least fifty percent stronger than before. It was all because of the Fanged Whitemane Wolf’s ‘Enraged Howl’ buff.

The Fanged Whitemane Wolf used its Enraged Howl after it got hurt during the fight. The Enraged Howl not only increased the boss monster’s strength and speed, but also raised the other Fanged Wolves back to their feet, while applying the same buff to them as well. That’s why the bodies of the other Fanged Wolves didn’t dissipate after being killed.

The students knew that, even if some of them forgot about it when the fight had started. That was one thing Narias became worried about in the beginning. He knew the pack will raise again, stronger than before. Luckily, right when the pack sprung to their feet again, Emilia managed to freeze one of the Fanged Wolves, with Narias finishing it off with his own spell.

Still, the students had to give it their all against much stronger monsters. For all they knew, with the Enraged Howl buff active, the Fanged Wolves could’ve been as strong as the level three monsters. That being said, Emilia didn’t hesitate or falter facing two possible level-three monsters at once. She was as confident in her abilities as she was elegant with her spellcasting.

“Ice Ring,” the girl with the snow-white hair covered the ground around her with a solid, slippery ice to make the Fanged Wolves stumble under their feet. Monsters were still monsters after all. The two beasts charged at the girl head on, thinking she would be an easy prey. That’s what Emilia was expecting them to do.

“Rays of Frost,” the Ice Princess chanted a spell she hadn’t used before.

As Emilia cast her spell, a flash of light shot from her palm. Or so it looked for a brief moment. Multiple ice shards materialized so fast, reflecting the tiny rays of light caught in between each other, it gave an illusion of actual rays of light shooting forward. It was a sight to behold. Not for Emilia’s intended targets, unfortunately. The Rays of Frost showered the two Fanged Wolves, cutting, slashing and piercing their bodies like a sharp knife slicing through a piece of paper. The monsters were dead before Emilia finished casting her Rays of Frost spell.

- ‘Hooowl!’ – the big bad wolf howled once again.

The two remaining Fanged Wolves rushed back to its side before Growly and Flavia could finish them off.

“Hey! Get back here!” Flavia shouted with a frown after missing her kick.

“Wind Bullet,” Narias came to assist her and managed to hit one of the running away monsters with his spell.

Normal Fanged Wolf wasn’t as tough as the pack’s leader, so his Wind Bullet managed to pierce its body through. However, the monster was much faster than before, so the hit wasn’t lethal. The Wind Bullet hit one of the Fanged Wolf’s rear legs. The spell didn’t kill it, but it was still enough to make the monster fall on the ground. That’s when Flavia jumped up again.

- ‘Slam!’ – she jumped on the fallen wolf with a somersault kick from above, slamming the monster’s body to the ground so hard, the earth cracked under it.

The Fanged Wolf’s body vanished right after, just like all monster bodies do after being killed inside the Magic Dungeon. It was an indication that the monster was dead for sure.

“Hah. Still no match for me,” the energetic bunny girl flexed victoriously. But then had to instantly jump away, to avoid getting bitten by the last Fanged Wolf that turned back to bite her. “Woah! Hah.“

- ‘Paw!’ – Growly came to the rescue again.

He smacked the wolf with his powerful paw, following up with another blow in order to finish the monster for certain this time.

“Nice one, Growly,” Flavia was yet to land on her feet after the jump.

“Flavia! Behind you!” Narias yelled his lungs out. “Wind Shield!”

“Huh? Wha-“ the excited bunny girl felt a menacing presence behind her back right when she landed on the ground. A fearful chill ran down her spine when she realized she had not time to evade the attack.

- ‘Swipe! Bam!’ – a powerful swipe flew right at her.

“Aaaah!” Flavia was blown away by the hit like a pebble.

“Flavia!” Narias ran to check on his girlfriend.

- ‘Grraaah!’ – the Fanged Whitemane Wolf jumped forward to finish off its prey, fangs wide open.

“Huff! Hrrrumph!” Growly rolled forward, before jumping out to intercept the beast’s attack.

- ‘Slam!’ – he smacked the boss monster right at its face.

The big bad wolf bit the ground just a few inches away where Flavia was laying.

“Icicle Shot! Ice Shards!” Emilia followed up with her spells to protect her teammate.

“FIRE… BLAST!” Narias jumped at the Fanged Whitemane Wolf himself.

However, even after Growly’s punch, the huge wolf didn’t lose its senses. The boss monster was so fast, only a few Ice Shards managed to hit it before it jumped away. A big, burned hole was left on the ground right where Narias’s spell landed.

“Flavia! Are you ok, Flavia?” He then quickly rushed to check on her.

“Tch… Ouch… My butt…” fortunately, it didn’t look like Flavia was hurt too bad. Thanks to Narias’s Wind Shield spell, which blocked the Fanged Whitemane Wolf’s attack at the last second, Flavia ended with a few bruises only.

“Good, you’re ok,” Narias hugged the girl with the bunny ears tightly.

“Na… Narias…” that obviously made Flavia catch a blush, despite the fact they were still in a fight.

“You’ll be doing Game of Tag training for a whole week after we come back,” Narias then stated in a serious voice after looking directly in her eyes.

“Eeeh! Wha…” she didn’t expect to hear that kind of scolding. Not after that hug he gave her a second ago.

“Come on, you still have time to get back at it,” Narias added with a smile, knowing how competitive Flavia was. He extended his hand to help her stand up.

“Ah… Right. Thanks…” Flavia stood up, with her cheeks still burning red.

In the meantime, Emilia was trying to keep the Fanged Whitemane Wolf at bay. She was casting her spells one after another. However, since it was only her attacking the beast, she was yet to land a hit on it. Despite the Fanged Whitemane Wolf’s huge size, it was very fast on its feet. Add to that the Enraged Howl buff it cast on itself, and you can forget about hitting it with any normal attacks.

“Hey, I’m back,” Flavia announced after her and Narias joined up with Growly and Emilia.

“It’s so fast,” Emilia said calmly, despite missing yet another of her attacks.

“Huff. Hard to hit. Puff,” Growly was huffing and puffing in order to catch his breath.

I didn’t expect for the Fanged Whitemane Wolf to be that strong. And it’s only the first boss monster inside the Magic Dungeon. Still, we’ve come this far. We will definitely beat it. Narias was confident about his, and his teammates abilities.

“Let’s finish this,” Narias stated, preparing to cast a spell. “Fire… Wall!”

He cast his Fire Wall spell to limit the boss monster’s movements.

“Ice Shards,” Emilia followed up with her spell to stop the Fanged Whitemane Wolf from escaping to the other side of the cave room.

“Hrrr… Humph!” Growly jumped out from the ball after rolling towards the huge wolf.

- ‘Slam! Bam!’ – double slam followed, leaving a crack on the ground where Growly landed.

The huge wolf managed to jump back to avoid being smashed by Growly’s powerful slam.

“Here I come! Anima-Transformation!” this time, Flavia was faster than anyone. “Bite on this!”

- ‘Smack!’ – she kicked the big bad wolf in the face, on the right side of its jaws.

- ‘Grraaahrr!’ – the boss monster felt the pain, but managed to balance its footing, so it wouldn’t fall. The Fanged Whitemane Wolf was about to counter-bite the bunny girl who kicked him.

“Fire… Blast!” but Narias wouldn’t let that happen.

As soon as Flavia jumped at the monster to deliver her kick, Narias was already readying his spell. He had confidence that his bunny girlfriend will succeed with her attack. And she did. Narias’s attack blew the huge wolf away. This time, the Fanged Whitemane Wolf dropped to the ground from the Fire Blast spell’s impact. It was about to pick itself up, but Emilia wouldn’t have it. The few seconds the monster laid on the ground was more than enough to prepare and chat her most powerful spell.

“Rays of Frost,” and once again, a shower of flashing ice shards shot out from her palm.

The Fanged Whitemane Wolf, as well as the whole area around it, was pierced and sliced by Emilia’s spell.

“Woah!” Flavia gasped loudly upon seeing such amazing, and powerful, spell.

In a few more seconds, the effect of the Rays of Frost spell had ended and everyone waited for the cloud of dust and dirt to settle in order to see what was left of the Fanged Whitemane Wolf.

“WHAT?!” the students couldn’t believe their eyes when, after it was over, the boss monster picked itself up.

It was badly injured, with wounds visible all over its body. The huge wolf fixed its poise, so it could stand firmly on all four legs. The group huddled together, getting ready to continue the fight. However, some of Narias’s teammates were reaching their limits.

“No way. It can still stand after all of our attacks. Geez… I will… ouch… tch…” Flavia exclaimed, then tried to adjust her footing, but succumbed on one knee due to the pain in her leg.

The fight, as well as Anima-Transformation ability, took its toll on her body. The energetic bunny girl was already tired when she used her unique skill. She could maintain her strength and speed boosting form only for a very short time. It helped to land a powerful kick on the monster, but now that the ability wore off, she was weaker than ever.

“I… ahh… I’m sorry…” Emilia was in a similar state as well. Casting the Rays of Frost spell twice was probably her limit. Emilia was in no shape to continue the fight too.

This is bad. Flavia and Emilia are too tired to continue to fight and the Fanged Whitemane Wolf is still standing. What’s worse, I have barely any strength left myself. I have to make sure my next attack hits or else. Narias knew he won’t be able to escape. Not that he intended to leave Flavia and Emilia behind anyway.

“Leave it… huff… to me… puff…” Growly stepped forward, ready to face the boss monster on his own.

“No, you can’t. You’re in no shape to fight, Growly,” even if Growly was tough, Narias could see he was tired as well.

Narias was worried about his friends, so he failed to realize an important fact. During the few brief seconds that he tried to assess the situation, the Fanged Whitemane Wolf didn’t move from its spot. Actually, its body has already started to dissipate, even if it was standing. The dust, which was yet to completely settle, was in the way for the students to see what was really happening.

- ‘Hooowl!’ – a loud howl echoed, startling the students one last time.

When the sound subsided, the Fanged Whitemane Wolf was no more. A mild glimmer was left behind when its body completely vanished into nothing.

“What?” Flavia tried to see, as well as listen, to make sure the monster was no more.

“So… it was already dead… Phew…” Narias fell on the ground on his butt, feeling relieved it was finally over.

“Does that mean… we’ve won?” Emilia was careful not to jump to conclusions.

“It would seem so,” Narias smiled at her, which made her return a smile of her own back to him.

“Yeyyy!” Flavia startled everyone with a loud cheer. “We did it! Ouch… ou… tsk…”

She tried to jump up even, but her body reminded her she better not even try to do that. The excited bunny girl had to lay on the ground, letting her body to regain at least some of its strength.

“Huff… Food now,” Growly was laying on the ground, showing off his sharp beast-like teeth. They could only guess whether the chubby bear beast-boy was happy about defeating the first floor’s boss monster or about soon to eat food.

“Yeah, food. Ha… hahaha,” that made Flavia laugh.

“Hahaha,” Narias laughed as well, with Emilia adding a mild chuckle, while trying to restrain herself as usual.
