“Good morning,” Belinda greeted the guards at the Magic Dungeon entrance.

“Good morning, ma’am. Are you going to the dungeon?” the guards greeted her back with one of them asking the question.

“Yes. It is the time of the year, after all,” she added with an additional wave of her hand.

“But I thought the exploration starts tomorrow?” the same guard wondered.

“The sooner we start the sooner we finish, right?” the athletic teacher smirked at the guard, then turned to the students for a brief moment before turning back to the guards again. “Get ready, we’re going in. Ok, open up.”

“Hah, must be hard babysitting all these kids,” the other guard tried to joke.

“Tell me about it,” Belinda waved her hand.

“Right, good luck and be careful,” the first guard added.

“Thanks,” the teacher said.

The gates were open and the group entered the dimly lit tunnel with the teacher going in last.

“Woah…” the students gasped.

Narias was inside the Magic Dungeon once already, but for everyone else, it was a new experience. The students gasped in amazement when Belinda pulled on the level and the contraption moved down. Lilna and Emilia got startled by it slightly even. On the other hand, Flavia and Growly were extra excited to be there with Growly being curious at how the lift moved.

“Here we are. The Magic Dungeon is right through this entrance. Although, one of you know that already,” Belinda Salroze threw a mild stare at Narias.

Narias simply smiled in response.

“Sooo cool. Let’s go,” Flavia didn’t wait for an invitation.

“Magic Dungeon is cool,” Growly followed her soon after.

“Huh? Wait… shouldn’t we…” Lilna was slightly timid about passing the magic barrier.

“It’s ok Lilna, there aren’t any monsters in the main room,” Narias reassured her with a smile, then stepped through the barrier himself.

“Let’s go,” Emilia encouraged the other girl as well.

“Oh, ok,” Lilna walked inside together with Emilia.

“Hmph…” Belinda smirked to herself before entering the dungeon.

“WOAAAH…” Flavia gasped at the view inside the Magic Dungeon. “So cool.”

“So, this is how the inside of the Magic Dungeon looks like,” Emilia was looking around.

“Pretty awesome, right?” Narias commented with a smile.

“Huh? Oh, yeah…” the girl brushed her snow-white hair to the side.

“Hah, I’m surprised to see you all so excited,” Belinda finally said. “Usually, the students start to sweat the moment they step inside the dungeon.”

“Really? Why is that?” Flavia wondered.

“Because the dungeon is full of dangerous monsters,” the teacher gave her a brief stare.

“Oh, that. But that’s why we’re here, to fight the monsters,” the energetic bunny girl grinned.

“Ah… Hmph…” Belinda Salroze lowered her head with a mild smile. “All right then. I’m sure you’ve heard it more than a few times, but I’m still gonna tell you…”

The teacher went over the general safety rules, reminding the students to be careful. She also mentioned that she won’t be interfering with the fights, unless it becomes too dangerous. The students are free to make the choices on how to organize the party, or which way they want to go. Belinda said she will act as an observer for the most part.

“All clear?” the athletic teacher asked at the end.

“Yes, Miss Salroze,” the students responded.

“So, which way do we go?” Flavia was itching to start exploring the dungeon.

“Hold on, Flavia. We need to organize the party first,” Narias stopped her.

“Oh, right, sorry…” the excited bunny girl smiled.

“So, how do you want to do it, Narias?” Emilia asked, with everyone else turning their eyes at him as well.

Huh? What? They want me to decide? He felt under pressure all of a sudden.

“Ok… aaah… The best possible setup… I think… would be Flavia and Growly walking at the front, I could be in the middle and Emilia with Lilna could stay at the back. The reason being, you and Growly can’t use magic, so it doesn’t make sense for you to stay behind. You’d be the first ones to engage monsters with me joining in right away. And then… Emilia and Lilna could provide support from the distance.” Narias finished his explanation.

“That makes a lot of sense,” Emilia was impressed.

“I agree,” the chubby bear-looking beast-boy agreed.

“I don’t mind staying behind,” Lilna agreed with the plan.

“No wonder you’re so smart, partner,” Flavia grinned wide.

“Ok then. Let’s do it this way,” Narias said.

“Now, which path do we take? How about this one?” Flavia asked the question and then made a suggestion right after.

“I think we should choose a different path,” Narias suggested a different path.

“Huh? Why?” the bunny girl almost frowned.

“Because that path leads to the Supply Point,” he answered.

“Really? How do you know?” Flavia wanted to know.

“When I was here with Instructor Dreknor we choice that exact path and ended up at the Supply Point room. There were a few paths to choose on the way, but I think if we want to find the boss monster sooner, we should choose a different path,” Narias explained.

“That’s right, you were here before, partner,” the bunny girl didn’t object.

“This one?” Growly pointed at the last path on the right.

“Yeah, why not?” Narias had no reason to object about that one.

“Hmh…” Belinda smiled to herself as the students were getting ready to leave.

“Wow, look at this place,” Flavia was gasping in amazement as they walked. “It’s a real cave tunnel.”

“Yes, I’ve never seen anything like it,” Emilia added after looking to the sides.

Really? They don’t have any caves outside of the Magic Dungeon here? It was hard for Narias to believe. Or maybe they’ve just never been to one?

- ‘Howl!’ – the students didn’t have to walk far before a howl was heard deeper inside the cave tunnel.

“Ah, what’s that?” Lilna, who was at the back, exclaimed.

“Hah, that was quick,” Flavia on the other hand, slammed her fists at each other in excitement.

“Fanged Wolves,” Narias commented.

The students dropped their backpacks and were ready to fight the approaching monsters. In a few more moments, two Fanged Wolves appeared. The monsters stopped just briefly upon seeing their prey then instantly dashed forward again.

“Not so fast. Haaa!” Flavia reacted jumping forward.

- ‘Kick! Smack!’ – one of the wolves got kicked and thrown into the wall.

The other wolf was about to jump on Growly.

“Ghah,” Growly’s eyes flashed with a rageful glow.

- ‘Bam!’ – the chubby bear boy flattened the Fanged Wolf with his paw from above.

Before the monster’s body could hit the ground, it evaporated into the thin air and a tiny crystal dropped on the ground instead. Growly sneered with a bit of a proud confidence, as if showing to the already dead monster it was no match for him.

Wow, they got rid of the Fanged Wolves so fast. Such difference compared to when I was here with my previous group. Narias was totally impressed.

“Heh, easy,” the cheerful bunny girl grinned while flexing her arm.

“Huh?” Growly picked up the tiny crystal that dropped on the ground.

“Wow, what is that?” Flavia was quick to come see what it was.

“Magic Crystal,” the chubby bear boy said.

“Cool,” the girl with the golden color hair and bunny ears stared at it.

“Can I see?” Emilia couldn’t resist to come closer too.

“Aa… can I look too?” Lilna wanted to see the crystal as well.

The four of them stood there admiring the tiny treasure they were lucky to find.

“Impressive,” Belinda commented, standing some distance away. “No hesitation at all. Your teammates must’ve been taking their training seriously.”

“Oh, yeah, thanks.” Narias was the only who could hear her since he was further away from the group himself. “We’ve been practising every day after the classes.”

“Is that so?” the teacher with the short, violet hair wasn’t really asking a question.

“Yes. Well, excuse me, Miss Salroze,” Narias went to check on his teammates.

After the initial curious excitement to see what the Magic Crystal looked like, the group continued forward. Soon, they’ve reached a fairly spacious open cave room. As it was to be expected, there were monsters lurking around. There were more than a few and there was no way they could sneak past the monsters without being noticed.

“Hah, more level one Fanged Wolves. Easy, we’ll get rid of them in no time,” Flavia was ready for some action.

“Wait, it’s not only the Fanged Wolves that are inside here. Look up there,” Narias pointed with his hand.

“Eeek… Creepy. What are those?” the bunny girl was visibly creeped out by the monsters on the ceiling and the stalactites hanging from above.

“Those are Dungeon Crawlers. We need to be careful. As you know, Dungeon Crawlers aren’t fast monsters but they can jump. There might be more hiding around the place that we cannot see.” Narias was giving advice.

“How do we pass the room then, Narias?” Emilia asked.

“We’ll have to kill all the monsters,” was his answer.

“Ok,” Growly placed his oversized bag on the ground, then stepped forward.

“Look, see that big boulder on the right?” Narias waited for everyone to acknowledge before continuing. “I think that would be the best position for us to fight the monsters. Flavia and Growly could stay right there to fight the Fanged Wolves that will come from the front. Emilia, Lilna and I could cover you from behind and take care of the Dungeon Crawlers that might come from the walls with our spells.”

“Good plan,” the chubby bear boy agreed.

“I’ll… stay near Emilia then,” Lilna said.

“Ok, let’s do this,” Flavia showed off her charming grin again.

“By the way, don’t try to run in on your own. If the monster turns around and runs, don’t chase it. It might be an ambush,” Narias warned them at the last second.

“What? Monsters can do that?” the bunny girl was surprised to hear it.

“They might,” that’s all he said.

Man, if this Magic Dungeon is anything like the video games my classmates were playing, I wish I’ve played some too. Narias let out a regretful sigh.

The group sneaked into position while the teacher waited at the cave entrance where they came from. There were no monsters near the big boulder but everyone was well disciplined and didn’t run off on their own.

~ whisper ~ “How do we lure the monsters in without alerting the whole room?” Flavia whispered after turning to Narias.

~ whisper ~ “Emilia…” he whispered to get her attention after looking around.

Narias then pointed with his finger at the stalactites right above the boulder. There were a few Dungeon Crawlers quietly waiting in ambush. Narias made some hand signs that he’ll attack one on the right and that Emilia should take care of the one on the left. She quickly understood his directions. Both of them readied their spells.

“Wind Bullet,” Narias cast his.

“Ice Shards,” while Emilia cast hers.

Two Dungeon Crawlers were shot on the spot and their bodies evaporated into the thin air. That was enough to alert the nearby monsters and to help Narias and Emilia see a few more Dungeon Crawlers move from their spots. A few more spells followed taking down the monsters on the walls and the ceilings. At the same time, two Fanged Wolves jumped out of the cover.

- ‘Howl!’ – a howl alerted the rest of the monsters in the room.

“Here they come,” Flavia was itching to get into action.

A pack of Fanged Wolves rushed towards where the student group was. There were four or five of them, but thanks to the big boulder on the side only two monsters could get through the gap at one time.

That was just perfect for Flavia and Growly to fight them. Just like before, one hit was enough to dispatch the monsters. The two students at the front could stand on their own.

“There’s more coming from this side too,” Lilna alerted the others, after she saw a few Fanged Wolves rush towards them from the other side.

“I’ll take care of the Dungeon Crawlers. Emilia, help Lilna deal with the Fanged Wolves.” Narias instructed.

“Ok, Ice Shards,” Emilia was quick to turn her attacks at the four-legged monsters on the ground.

With Flavia’s and Growly’s physical strength, Emilia’s and Lilna’s magic spells, and Narias helping both sides in between, the party cleared the cave room of the monsters without much trouble. Everyone was focused and nobody panicked. It was a well organized effort with an easy victory.

Wow, everyone did so well. Narias was still impressed on how well they did.

“Are there any more?” Emilia asked.

A quiet pause ensued for the party to listen if any monsters were still around. A mild sound of a footstep was heard and the group instantly turned towards the direction of the sound.

“Hey, hey, easy,” Belinda raised her hands in front of her.

“Oh, sorry, Miss Salroze. We wanted to make sure there weren’t any more monsters around.” Narias apologized then turned to his group. “It seems like we cleared all the monsters in the room.”

“Yey, that was fun. And great going, partner. That was a well thought strategy,” Flavia grinned her usual, charming smile.

“I thought I’d panic, but thanks to your instructions I was able to stay calm, Narias,” Lilna was feeling at ease.

“Thank you… for your help, Narias,” Emilia smiled before hiding her face behind her snow-white hair.

“Good job,” Growly was short with words as usual.

“Hey, hey. It was a team’s effort,” Narias felt embarrassed with all the praise.

“Nicely done. That was some fine team leading,” the teacher complimented Narias too.

“Well, thanks,” he didn’t expect to hear a praise from her as well.

“What’s the plan now?” Flavia asked. “Which path do we take now?”

“Huh? Which path?” Narias was confused.

“Yes. There are two tunnels leading out of this cave on the other side of the room. Which one do you want to take, partner?” the charming bunny girl asked.

“I mean, we can take either one,” he didn’t mind whichever way they go.

“No, no. It’s better if you decide,” Flavia insisted.

“I think Flavia is right. I’ll trust your decision, Narias,” Emilia added after brushing her unruly hair to the side.

“I’ll just… listen to what you say, Narias.” Lilna followed up with her comment.

“You’re the boss,” Growly stated casually.

Huuuh? What? Why am I suddenly in charge? Narias didn’t expect to be appointed as the team leader.

“Hah,” Belinda smirked to herself quietly.

Well, it’d be pointless to argue with everyone here. We’re in the dungeon after all. Let’s just move on. Narias decided to go along with it.

“Right, let’s check if monsters dropped any Magic Crystals first. And then… we can decide which path we will take,” he suggested.
