It’s a spider. A spider indeed. A gigantic, transparent spider!

Considering its size and bizarre appearance, it’s undoubtedly a unique monster, right?

Which means it’s probably a descendant of a being born from a part of the Demon King… If we defeat it, it might not end well.

Anyway, I should inform everyone just in case. I activated the [Communication] bracelet, and even though they should have been sleeping, they responded immediately.

“Hello? This is ‘Head Maid.’ Currently, a large, transparent spider is approaching from the east. Also, it’s raining today.”

[Understood. You stay inside.]

The rustling sounds in response indicate that everyone is starting to arm themselves.

It’s not too early to be cautious. Even though it might be a unique monster and could possibly carry a part of the Demon King, it wouldn’t make any sense if we ended up dead.

The last time with the fire dragon, it might have been a unique monster too, but it was definitely a situation of kill or be killed.

…And most likely, it’s going to be the same this time.

For now, I need to return to the laboratory to get my equipment.

I returned to the room and informed Akashi and the others about the situation. Then, I rushed back to the laboratory in the rain to retrieve my equipment, preparing for battle just in case.

My strongest equipment is the Demon King’s gear, so if I use it, I’ll end up becoming the Demon King, but there’s no other choice.

Looking outside, the Glass Spider is approaching rapidly, and everyone from the chemistry club, except President, is outside.

…It seems like we can’t avoid a confrontation.

[Maito-san, can you hear me?]

A communication message came in from President, who was the only one not outside.

“I can hear you. What’s the matter?”

[Please make sure the drama club members don’t go outside. The rain is poisonous. It would be unbearable for them without [Poison Resistance].]

If that’s the case, we need to act quickly.

I ran outside again in the rain, and just as I was about to open the door to the room where Akashi and the others were, I came face to face with them as they were about to come out.

“Everyone, stay inside!”

I warned them, as I was already soaked in the rain and they should avoid touching me.

“The rain that’s falling is poisonous. The chemistry club has [Poison Resistance], so we’ll handle it from here. If possible, provide support and healing from inside the room.”

“Just a moment, Maito!”

They were worried about me, but I reassured them and asked them to stay inside the room.

Now, I need to face the Glass Spider.

I don’t think there’s much I can do, but I’ll go check on President.

It seemed that President was inside the room, probably tending to the drama club boys who had gone outside and been affected by the poison.

Actually, if it weren’t for the drama club members staying inside, we probably wouldn’t have realized that the rain was poisonous. After all, all of us have [Poison Resistance].

I knocked on the door of the room where the drama club boys were and entered. As expected, President was busy administering some suspicious-looking medicine to the boys, either pouring it over their heads or making them drink it.

“Oh, Maito-san, perfect timing. Could you [Clean] around here?”

I noticed that there were puddles inside the room, likely caused by the poisonous rain. That’s dangerous. I used my duster to sweep away and clean up all the puddles. In the process, President also helped with the cleaning. It seems I was quicker.

“How’s the situation outside?”

“We should be fine. At least the poison, which is one of its trump cards, has no effect on us. That’s a significant advantage.”

I couldn’t help but appreciate the fact that we all had [Poison Resistance]. Without it, we wouldn’t have stood a chance against the Glass Spider. It’s terrifying to think about.

While activating [Song Enchantment], I looked outside through the window. The situation appeared to be tougher than I had expected.

First, Katori’s optical weapon didn’t seem to work. The opponent was transparent, so maybe that’s why it had no effect.

So, Katori’s attack method became a sumo-style battle using the humanoid optical weapon, but it wasn’t going well either.

Surprisingly, the humanoid optical weapon had one of its legs disappear. As a result, its maneuverability was lost, and it couldn’t move properly anymore. We’re not in space, after all, and legs are not just for show.

Moreover, it seemed that the Glass Spider was surprisingly tough. Our attacks didn’t seem to do much damage, and the Glass Spider didn’t stop moving.

Suddenly, a scream echoed through the area.

Looking over, I saw Hariu being hit by some sort of water candy-like substance that then started melting his arm.

“Strong acid… it’s that stuff again!”

I [Transferred] to Hariu’s side and immediately used my duster to [Clean] the candy-like substance off his arm.

The broom part melted, but I managed to successfully remove the acidic water candy. Then I quickly [Transferred] Hariu to Kariya, who was positioned behind, to keep them together.

“Thank you, that saved me.”

Kariya promptly healed his arm, leaving no trace of the injury.

“Do you have something to recover MP, Maito-san? I’ve run out of mine”

Kariya asked while still casting healing magic. Katori was also helping with the recovery, so it must have been quite tough.

I transferred my supply of Mint Extract to the pouch attached to Kariya’s belt. As for my own supply, I mentioned that I would need to return to the lab to retrieve it later.

“It’s quite dangerous, isn’t it? The acid the spider spits out is pretty strong. With the rain mixing in, the whole area seems to be turning into an acidic sea. My legs are starting to melt a bit too.” Hariu said in a gloomy voice, looking around at the candy-like substances scattered all over, melting the surrounding grass.

And then, there’s this rain. It’s true that poison doesn’t work in this rain, but the water-like acid is mixing in and flowing everywhere. Both the acid and poison are transparent, making it hard to distinguish between water puddles and dangerous substances.

“Hmm, I see.”

“I’ll go get some spare brooms. If we can clear out the acidic blobs, it should make a difference,” I suggested, and added, “Besides, I also have [Strong Acid Resistance], so I’m the perfect fit for the job as a cleaning maid.”

Kariya seemed concerned about me.

“Maito-san, are you sure you’ll be okay?”

“Just let me be helpful for once. I can handle it.”

Kariya nodded.

“Alright, just be careful.”

With determination, I started using the duster to [Clean] the acidic blobs, fully prepared to discard the brooms after each use.

Witness the true power of [Clean]!

I returned to the lab briefly, taking off my armor. I didn’t need the extra weight, and the maid outfit doesn’t boost MP as the armor did, but it was safer without the risk of melting.

Upon opening the shelves, there were numerous dusters stored there. I had accumulated a large stock by collecting fabric scraps each time I made clothes and turning them into dusters. I stuffed as many dusters as possible into the pockets of my apron and restored my MP before immediately [Transferring].

I diligently continued [Cleaning] as I encountered the candy-like acidic blobs. Unlike lava that burns on touch, the acidic blobs didn’t burn me upon contact, so I could use the brooms as disposable cleaning tools, which was quite relieving.

I went about [Cleaning] every puddle without discrimination, as it was difficult to distinguish between the water puddles and the acidic substances.

I repeatedly [Transferred] and [Cleaned], ensuring that I took breaks to recover my MP when it ran low. Whenever I saw an acidic blob on the spider’s side, I quickly [Transferred] to [Clean] it, and then [Transferred] again to eliminate the next one.

There were a few close calls when I almost got stepped on by the spider’s legs, but by carefully anticipating its movements, I managed to [Transfer] just in time. I had a decent grasp of how it moved, making it possible to dodge its attacks.

As I continued to dart around, I managed to clean up most of the acidic substances in the vicinity. Now, all that was left was to deal with the newly emerging acid blobs.

With no need to evade acid attacks while fighting, the battle became somewhat more manageable. The tide seemed to be turning in our favor.

Alright, things were looking good!

I noticed something strange about the glass spider. Despite continuously attacking and having one of its legs destroyed, it’s still trying to move and approach us.

Come to think of it, I remembered a rather unpleasant incident. Hunter’s mother, that giant black serpent, deliberately aimed for me from behind and swallowed me whole.

Could it be the same this time? Is that glass spider coming for me?

One possible reason could be because of my connection with Ketorami.

Well, it’s not like it matters. The reason is irrelevant.

What matters is whether the spider’s approaching me with the intent to kill. If it’s not the case, then there might be other ways to handle it.

Since I’m afraid to make that judgment on my own, I’ll ask someone.

I looked around and saw that it seemed fine to talk to Hagasaki-kun. I [Transferred] next to him.

“Hey, Hagasaki-kun.”

“What’s up? Oh, Maito, do you have something for MP recovery?”

Seems like he’s also running low on MP. While passing him all my mint extract, I asked:

“Do you think that spider has been targeting me since earlier?”

The glass spider was indeed heading towards the area where I was until I [Transferred], but as soon as I did, it changed its course and started coming towards me.

“You think so? Are you naturally likable to creatures like that?”

“I don’t know… Anyway, do you think it’s safe to talk to that spider?”

He seemed unsure, and I recalled how I dealt with Ketorami — using [Dog Training] while talking normally.

“Is that thing like a dog?”

“Are you kidding me?”

It’s true, that spider doesn’t look like a child, so using [Babysitting] won’t work. Also, trying to [Share] with it would be the same as walking into death. So, what can we do?

“Let’s try asking Ketorami for help… Ketorami!”

I called out, but Ketorami didn’t appear.

“Ketorami! I need a translator! Hey!”

Still, Ketorami didn’t show up.

And then, it hit me.

Could it be that Ketorami doesn’t have [Poison resistance] or something?

I used [Farsight] to survey the surroundings, and in the distance, I spotted a dull-colored mass under the shade of a tree.

Hastily, I [Transferred] to that location and found Ketorami, clearly looking unwell.

[…What’s wrong?]

“Stop pretending to be fine and tell me the truth. Will you die if we leave you alone?”

[…Maybe.]

This is bad! Why didn’t I notice this earlier? Despite Ketorami’s strength, poison is a whole different matter!

“Would a human antidote help?”

[Not needed. Just clean it up for me.]

“No, that won’t do…”

I felt anxious but proceeded to [Clean] and remove the poison rain attached to Ketorami.

I then noticed that Hunter, who was supposed to be with Ketorami, was nowhere in sight. However, Ketorami didn’t seem particularly worried. Maybe Hunter was okay since Ketorami’s tail was twitching?

As I observed Ketorami’s tail, suddenly, a dark and fluffy entity appeared and absorbed something dark from Ketorami’s body, growing in size.

Then, the dark fluffy thing flew away and landed far off in the distance.

…What was that just now?

[Ketorami, it worked! It worked!]

I exclaimed in amazement. Then, from under Ketorami’s tail, Hunter popped up.

[Are you feeling better now, Ketorami? Are you okay?]

[Yeah, I’m fine now. Thanks. …But seriously, Maito, instead of worrying about yourself, you worry about me.]

I was still confused about what just happened, but it seemed that Ketorami had recovered. He was back to his usual self, even scolding me as usual. Well, if he’s acting like this, then he’s probably okay.

“Can you please explain? Are you really okay?”

[Can’t you see for yourself? Hunter collected the poison inside me and shot it away. He’s got a talent for dark magic and poison magic.]

[Hunter! Hunter! Praise me! Praise me!]

Oh, my, he has grown so much. Yes, you did well… I apologize for not noticing your growth.

While petting Hunter’s head, I wanted to ask Ketorami some more detailed questions.

“Okay, next question. Why was that spider chasing after me?”

The glass spider was still approaching us.

[…I don’t know.]

…It seemed that Ketorami had no intention of revealing what he knew. He must be aware of something, but he refused to share it with me.

“Can I talk to that spider?”

[What’s the point of talking to it?]

“Because that spider is a Unique Monster, right? It inherited a part of the Demon King, so… I’m worried that killing it might cause trouble.”

Ketorami seemed hesitant about the idea.

[But while you’re wasting time talking, you might end up dead.]

“I know.”

Even though we were currently pressing the advantage, the enemy was still a formidable opponent. We couldn’t afford to take it lightly.

[In the first place, is there any benefit to having a Demon King in this world?]

……hm. Based on what I’ve heard from Goddess-san, I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s better for the Demon King to stay in this world.

“Well, I’m not entirely sure yet. But having a Demon King in this world might be necessary. Besides, making irreversible decisions without fully understanding the situation is risky.”

Ketorami narrowed his eyes and seemed to concentrate on something. Suddenly, there was a strange sensation, as if the area around him was expanding and becoming more airy.

[I’ve connected the path for you. If you’re saying all that, then handle it on your own. I won’t bother myself with it anymore.]

After that blunt statement, a sweet voice descended upon us.

[Oh my, you finally managed to connect, huh?]

As I looked up, my eyes met with the glass spider.

[Nice to meet you! I have a little business with your body. So, can you lend it to me for a bit?]

“Ha?!”

The glass spider chuckled.

I finally understood why Ketorami was against the idea of talking to the spider. This was far from a peaceful situation.
