Author’s Note : Chapter 1 of S2 is technically chapter 450 of S1. We are starting off with Chapter 2.

T/N : 恶有恶报- eyouebao- (idiom) evil has its retribution/suffer the consequences of one’s bad deeds

Despite her gentle smile, An Chuxia thinks Xiang Mankuai is really vicious!

Evil has its retribution, and it won’t assign blame! An Chuxia lowers her head and stops talking. She simply stares at the mobile in her hand. The screen, black and bright, reflects her face.

“I’m supposed to get my IV infusion after dinner, so steward Han, please show An Chuxia meimei around,” Han Qilu vaguely instructs the butler as he gnaws on a piece of ribbed meat.

Steward Han nods. He reaches out and lays his rough hand on An Chuxia’s small hand, patting it in comfort. An Chuxia smiles at the butler despite holding back the tears. She swallows the bitterness sliding down her throat.

Han Qilu actually called her “little sister”… .

Taking a deep breath, she reminds herself to be strong. She can’t easily be knocked down!

“Xiao… .” The rest of her title dies on the butler’s lips. He mentally changes the mistress’s title before speaking again. “Miss, I will escort you while you buy some gifts for the master and his wife.”

“That’s fine.” An Chuxia remains docile.

Eating with them was torturous. Chxia was relieved when Han Qilu finally announces he’s returning to the hotel with Xiang Mankuai to get his infusion. She, on the other hand, promises to leave once Qilu has gotten his IV.

“Be careful on your way back, young master.” Steward Han walks him and Mankuai to the car before stopping short to stand by An Chuxia. “I’ll accompany the young miss until she’s ready to return to the hotel.”

Steward Han is quite childish and ridiculous. He can’t help but be protective of An Chuxia. Then, he hears the little girl laugh. His chest tightens as he hears the hollow sound. He knows An Chuxia doesn’t want him to worry about her, so she slips her hand in his and squeezes it. “Where should we go?”

“The shops across the square are rather inexpensive but good.” Steward Han has shopped around the area a number of times, and he’s gotten quite familiar with the vicinity.

Each shop has its own unique decoration. At one point, they enter a medieval-themed store, and it feels like they have entered another time period.

The young mistress ends up making several purchases, and wanted to carry the load, but the butler refuses to have her do so. Eventually, Chuxia relents after some arguing.

Next, An Chuxia enters a comic shop that’s recently opened. She tells the old man to take a seat as she heads to the counter to order their drinks. The shopkeeper recognizes the fact that they’re Chinese, and insists to give their drinks for free.

An Chuxia isn’t fond of coffee; it tastes too bitter. But since the drink is a gift, and she doesn’t want to offend their benefactor, she takes a sip. The taste is not as bitter as she thought. Since she is thirsty, she consumes the coffee like it was tea.

Her real intent to stop in the comic book shop is to give steward Han a break. She feels bad he’s carrying her shopping bags filled with all the souvenirs she purchased.

As she sits on the wooden bench, she tilts her face up to take in the quaint atmosphere. The owner is a woman in her forties. She has wavy hair and a serene face, making her look very approachable. An Chuxia’s body and mind relaxes immediately.

An Chuxia’s mind isn’t on the comic book in her hand. Instead, her mind wanders past the transparent window and on the street and people outside. Steward Han knows she’s thinking about Han Qilu.

Steward Han secretly sends a text to Han Qilu’s nurse. The caregiver quickly returns the text and states that Mankuai should be ready to leave. Steward Han gazes at An Chuxia and says, “We should go back before it gets too late.”

An Chuxia wakes up from her stupor and turns to steward Han.

As she stands up, she stretches her hand and catches the book she almost dropped.

“Miss, I thought you looked beautiful in the moment, so I took a picture of you.” The foreigner hands her a Polaroid photograph as he converses with her in fluent English.

An Chuxia takes the photo and looks at the image capturing the people in the background, and a beautiful profile of her. His technique is quite good.

“It looks beautiful.” She feebly admires his work.

Steward Han, who is standing beside her, reaches for his wallet and hands money to the stranger.

“No, no, it’s not why I wanted to give her the photo.” The foreigner waves his hand. “I hope you have a good visit in the United States. Goodbye.”

“Thank you.” An Chuxia shoots the foreigner a strange look as she holds onto the photo. For some odd reason, she is embarrassed to look at the butler.

Steward Han goes ahead and buys a comic book. He takes the photo and puts it between the pages before returning it to An Chuxia. “The photo is a momento.”

They say goodbye to the store owner before leaving the establishment. The butler hails a cab to take them back to the hotel. At the hotel, as they’re waiting for the elevator at the lobby, Mankuai’s exit from elevator catches them by surprise.

Mankuai, who is equally surprised, proceeds to tell An Chuxia, “Can we talk?”

An Chuxia looks at steward Han and smiles at him. “Steward Han, go ahead. I’ll follow you shortly.”

The butler gets on the lift as the two women sit down on the lobby sofa.

“You might be wondering what I’m about to say.” Mankuai pulls a cigarette from her pocket and slips it between her lips.

“Sorry, I think you’re overestimating my abilities. I don’t want to know what you want to say.” The acrid cigarette smoke wafts An Chuxia’s way, making it hard for her to breathe.

Mankuai sneers at Chuxia after she makes the statement. Mankuai says offensively, “Since you’re responding this way, I’ll get to the point: Stay away from my Han Qilu!”

She says it so loudly, the people in the lobby turn to look in their direction.

An Chuxia sneers back as she stares Mankuai down. “I don’t know about “Han Qilu being yours” but I know he has amnesia. And if anything else, I’m wondering what would just happen.”

Mankuai haughtily raises her chin and scorns at Chuxia. “And what do you imagine?”

“I wonder what would happen to you after he recovers his memory.” An Chuxia stands up and stares at Mankuai. “And when that happens, you’ll return to nothing.”

An Chuxia picks up her feet and walks toward the elevator. She doesn’t want to look at that woman for another second!

Frustrated with An Chuxia, Mankuai stands up and shouts at her. “You’re nothing now, and you’ll be nothing in the future!”

An Chuxia ignores her and walks straight into the vacant elevator. She presses the button, finally escaping Mankuai’s voice.

Chuxia stares at her reflection as the elevator goes up the floors. She pats her face and forces herself to cheer up. As long as she holds on to her memories, she has to remain positive and cheer up!

Steward Han waits for her outside the elevator doors. He greets An Chuxia quickly, his face filled with concern. “Are you okay, miss? What did she say to you?”

“She told me to stay away from Han Qilu.” An Chuxia says, smiling. “Rest assured, steward Han, I won’t let her get to me.”

They walk down the long, carpeted hallway as they head over to her room.

“You know, she started working in the entertainment business at a very early age. I was afraid she would manipulate you, so I was really worried!” Steward Han uses the key card on her door and opens it for her. An Chuxia heads into the room.

She enters the presidential suite, and looks at the lights coming through the windows before sighing heavily.

“Steward Han, what if I can’t hold on? I’m so tired… .”

She waits for a response that never comes. Instead, she hears footsteps and when she turns, she faces Qilu.

“Steward Han?” Han Qilu asks. There is a needle in his left hand, and on his right, an IV bag. On his shoulders is a blanket, which drops to the ground the moment he moves.

“Why are you here?” An Chuxia rushes forward to drape the blanket over him. She takes the IV from him, acting like an IV pole, so his blood won’t return to the IV line.

Their fingers touch as she tries to adjust the IV bag to his height. Han Qilu pauses for a moment. He thinks his meimei truly cares for him.

He quickly returns to his senses and looks around. “Steward Han isn’t here?”

“He was a moment ago.” An Chuxia gazes around the room, snatching her fingers away. She yells, “Steward Han?”

“Here!” The kitchen door opens suddenly, and steward Han walks in. Bumping the door with his hip, he carries a freshly ground cup of soy milk.

Steward Han is puzzled the moment he sees Han QIlu. “Young master, why are you here?”

“I sent the nurse home the moment she put the IV in. But I forgot she has to take this out as well.” In all honesty, this was just an excuse to find them. The nurse was annoying, and he sent her home early. But he quickly got bored, and he knew steward Han and An Chuxia would be here, and he wanted to come over.

Steward Han looks at the IV bag and sees there’s still half a bag to infuse. He tells Han Qilu to sit in the living room until all the medicine has been infused. The butler reminds himself to take the bag from her later. After all, it’s unfair to have An Chuxia hold on to the bag.

Both Han Qilu and An Chuxia watch the cars below as they sit in the big room. She wishes that time would freeze at that moment.
