An Chuxia has been surrounded by so many boys recently that her pause made the other girls think. “Who is he? An Chuxia, why aren’t you telling us?”

“Ah!” Another girl exclaims loudly. “Is he the reason why you and Master Han aren’t together anymore?”

“Wow, your luck is so good, An Chuxia. How do you get so many handsome boyfriends?” A girl holds both her hands and bring them to her chest. “An Chuxia, bless me. Make me find a handsome little boyfriend now!”

What was that all about?

Speechless, An Chuxia says, “His name is Liu Dongyu. I don’t know much about him. I only know him through his dad.”

Her explanation sounded valid.

“Is that so?”

“An Chuxia, do you have his phone number? Can you give it to me?”

“I want his number, too!”

“All I can give you right now is this.” An Chuxia sticks out her tongue. It just so happens, she’s literally saved by the school bell.

The last lesson is math, and between the atmosphere and the muffled teaching, the class becomes drowsy. An Chuxia copies the steps to the solutions on the blackboard. Math is one of her weaker subjects, and she’s afraid she’ll regress if she doesn’t pay attention.

“Here are the steps to solving the geometry problem. Answer the few questions on your own, then turn them in.” The math teacher gives them time to solve the problem. He finishes the lecture with one minute left before the bell chimes.

Since it’s the last class before break, everyone is anticipating to be released. A delay will cause dissatisfaction.

The moment the bell rings, she takes her meal card and her phone as she exits the classroom. The canteen is the students’ haven, and all her classmates take off. She is left alone standing by the doorway.

She waits for a while for Liu Dongyu to come down the steps. Her impatience gets the best of her and she decides to seek him out, just in time to see him descend the steps.

Upon seeing An Chuxia, he picks up his pace. “I’m sorry I’m late. I got delayed.”

A bunch of strange girls had stopped him to ask for his phone number and astrological sign or something before he managed to slip out.

“Alright. Let’s go,” An Chuxia says, smiling. Lunch break is an hour long, and even if they’re a little late, the teacher doesn’t usually show up, so it wouldn’t matter.

This is why a lot of the students take advantage by having lunch outside of the campus.

Neither she nor he are extravagant. With only two dishes to eat, they search for a place to sit. But since they’re late getting there, there isn’t a vacant table to be found.

“How come you only got a vegetarian dish?” Liu Dongyu asks, switching out her rice bowl for his chicken dish.

Unsuspectingly, a boy with a camera secretly photographs the scene.

“Aren’t you going to lose weight? You should eat what you got.” An Chuxia tries to return the dish to him, but Dongyu immediately empties the rice bowl.

An Chuxia is rendered helpless, eating the dishes she has.

After eating, they stroll from the cafeteria to the blue gate. He didn’t think much of the interior of the place when he used to pass by it. Now it seems so much more.

When they got tired, they decided to sit in the middle of the lawn. The sun is bright but not intense. The scent of vanilla wafting puts them at ease.

“In my old school, our playground is only too hundred meters big, and only a few people can use it. Here, it’s so big, it looks empty even with people in it.” Liu Dongyu folds his hands behind his head before laying down.

An Chuxia’s old school has a playground like Stein’s but the devices here are newer.

She sits on the grass before she looks at him. “Is this school as lively as your old one, or is this place better?”

“For me, family is here, so I like this place.”

When he says family, does he mean steward Han?

An Chuxia remembers the butler telling him not to expose himself, so she asks, “Is steward Han your stepfather? Your relationship with him seems strained, but you like him?”

The question drags Liu Dongyu back to his childhood memories.

An Chuxia knows that Liu Dongyu’s father is an alcoholic and gambler. Every time he loses, he gets drunk and beats up his mother when he gets home. Sometimes, Liu Dongyu becomes a victim of domestic violence. From an early age, Dongyu has suffered from this psychological shadow.

Later on, Liu Dongyu’s mother had helped him escape while visiting relatives. She asked steward Han to help her since they had a previous relationship.

“One night, I realized a lot of people liked steward Han. Even though my mother and he went through a divorce, she spoke highly of him. Before she died, she told me to remember that he is a good man.” As Liu Dongyu recalls the memory, he chokes up.

In his mind, Mr. Han is a person who is like water to a house consumed with fire. He is more than just a stepfather; more than a benefactor.

“No wonder why you’re fond of him.” An Chuxia nods. “Steward Han to you is a knife with a tofu heart. He may be strict, but he wants you to be comfortable.”

“Nah,” he says, sitting up. He raises his wrist to look at the time. “It’s getting late; let’s head back.”

“Okay, okay.” She, too, stands up. They walk side-by-side on their way back. They still didn’t notice the guy hiding behind the tree taking photos of them. He grins maliciously.

Upon coming to the fork at the sidewalk, they part. Chuxia heads to her classroom around the corner, while Dongyu goes up the steps to the sixth floor where second year, classroom E is located.

As soon as An Chuxia walks through the classroom door, a continuous popping sound is heard, accompanied by flying streamers. An Chuxia is caught unaware, and the girls behind her suddenly laugh. “Welcome back, An Chuxia!”

As the girls’ voices die down, the rest of class A gives her a round of applause. It is then she notices that the room is set up like a wedding hall where colored ribbons cover the walls. The squad leader pushes Chuxia in front of a cake that is decorated with a girl in ponytails. It reads: Welcome back to regression, Chuxia. It is accentuated with a huge red candle,

“An Chuxia, without you, our overall performance went down. With you back, we will recover our brilliance!” The squad leader makes the claim, leaving An Chuxia warm.

“Thank you, all… .” No phrase could’ve been more adequate.

“Okay, let’s cut the cake!” The cake is divided into forty blocks, and everyone started swiping cream on each other like a game. Everyone was laughing and playing.

Fei Lixiya walks next to An Chuxia and murmurs, “Are you touched? We secretly planned this earlier this morning. We didn’t want to waste anymore time than needed, so we pre-cut the cake.”

An Chuxia’s eyes shimmer. “I didn’t realize how many people would miss me. When my mother died, I didn’t think this world would need me anymore.”

“What are you talking about?!” Fei Lixiya shoves her playfully. “You’re not allowed to say such silly words. Our year one, class A will always have your back!”

It was not until later An Chuxia realized everyone was fond of her because she’s willing to give the clothes off her back for anyone. They’re able to achieve success with their own efforts with her as their guide. Now that they have to rebuild their ranking, they know they’ll be able to succeed.

“An Chuxia, come with me! The school newspaper posted a lot of photos of you!” The students run as a pack to look at the photos.

This is too much! What she really wants is to take advantage of the break to seek out Mingluo and ask him about Meng Xiaonan.

An Chuxia follows the crowd downstairs where the newspaper blackboard is displayed. A dense mass of students crowd around it. Her steps falter at the sight of Han Qilu and Xiao Mingluo. Eventually, she stops walking.

“What’s wrong, An Chuxia? Don’t you want to go see it?” Fei Lixiya turns to her and asks. Then, she yells out to ask the other students, “What kind of photos are posted?”

It won’t be the kind where she looks vain, would it? Oh, karma, there should be a way around this!

Fei Lixiya cranes her neck and says, “It’s filled with photos of you and Liu Dongyu together. It looks like you’re sharing a dish, and another of you sitting with him on the school lawn… .”

Subconsciously, An Chuxia’s eyes fall on Han Qilu. It so happens he turns to look her way. There was no way for her to avert her gaze.

“Let’s get closer, Chuxia.” A path is created for the main subject to see the photos.

The noisy crowd suddenly becomes silent in record speed.
