Chapter 50 from “Miniature Garden Chemister part 2 – Miniature Garden”

“Letisreel-sama’s…potions?”

I felt like my chest was pounding.

Who was this old lady standing in front of me?

She just looked at my potions and hadn’t even drank it yet.

“Oh, did I scare you?”

“Oh, no…”

She looked at my confused reaction and smiled, perhaps trying to reassure me.

“You’ve been making potions for a long time?”

I didn’t know how to respond to the question and was confused. “What do you mean?” I asked.

“Fufu. How much do you know about your potions, little girl?”

“Well, uh…I’m still learning, so not much.”

Really? I’m a member of House Kleissis, which has honored Letisreel-sama for generations. I’ve been looking for Letisreel-sama for a long time.

She gently picked up the potion from the shelf and looked at it lovingly.

Or rather, I didn’t know that there was someone looking for Letisreel-sama. So, can I assume that they have the same goal as I do in looking for Letisreel-sama…?

Hmmm. I groaned as I pondered, and the old lady laughed at me a bit. Isn’t she a bit scary? I thought, but I didn’t feel so terrified when I saw the smile on her face.

“I’m Marley Kleissis. I’m from the church.”

“The Church…! Oh, my name is Hinami Kusunoki. Well, Hinami is my name.”

“Is that so? That’s a nice name.”

So that means she’s a Sister…right? Indeed, now that I look at her, she was wearing a robe that was more comfortable like a clergyman robe than a sorcerer’s robe.

A pure white robe that serves  God…yes, I could feel it.

I guess.

“I heard that the church…can teach the <oracle> skill.

“Yes. Are you interested in that?”

“…Yes.”

I had completely forgotten that God had told me that I could learn the skills of the Oracle at the church. I was planning to go to the church to learn <oracle> when I went into town.

As if my words were unexpected, Marley-san’s gaze twisted around me from top to bottom. It was a little uncomfortable, but…could it be that she was assessing whether its was worth teaching me the skill?

To begin with, I think that there are currently only about three people who can use <Oracle>. Now that I think about it…wasn’t the offer a bit too much?

“If you want to learn the oracle, come to the church. Pray in the chapel and drink the holy water, and then you will be able to learn the Oracle…However, it is not a skill that can be acquired so easily.”

“I see. I’d love to visit you next time…!”

“Yes, I’ll be waiting for you.”

I thought there would be difficult study materials, but I’m glad to see that I didn’t need that.

“…Have you ever met Letisreel-sama?”

After a period of silence and looking at the potion, Marley-san softly asked me in a small voice. It was a little different from the firm voice she had used earlier, and there seemed to be a bit of anxiety mixed in with her voice.

I shook my head in small denial, and she smiled sadly. “Oh, I see,” she said.

“There are many who say there is no Letisreel-sama. But all of us in the church believe that Letisreel-sama is somewhere in this world.”

“I see…I’m sure that she is here somewhere, too!”

“Thank you. I’m glad to hear it. I had wondered if you were being trained by Letisreel-sama because of your potions.”

“What?”

I mean, is Letisreel a chemister?

I looked over at Marley-san with a question mark above my head

“Didn’t you know?” She explained it to me slowly.

Letisreel-sama is the goddess of this world, and like a mother figure.

She specialized in medicinal arts and lived a peaceful life in harmony, curing people’s injuries and illnesses. Hence, there were many people who dealt in medicinal arts, and those potions were of better quality than they are now.

The surroundings around Letisreel-sama were full of smiles—a true symbol of happiness.

A peaceful world without conflict.

However, for some unknown reason, someone stole Letisreel-sama’s precious “Jewel flower.”

From there, the world changed completely.

The grieving Letisreel-sama closed her heart and disappeared from sight.

We don’t know what the Jewel flower is today, but we do know that it was a very important object.

“My ancestors were said to have lived with Letisreel-sama, and this is a potion made by Letisreel-sama that has been in my family for generations.

Marley gently took one bottle out of her pocket and showed it to me.

It was made a bit like the potions I made.

The ones I make are solid jars, but this one was a bit distorted in shape. However, the surface of the bottle had the same symbol on it as mine. It had a heart on it, so it was probably a high potion.

Certainly…When you look at it like this, it looks like the same person made it. It might not be surprising that Marley-san would be mistaken then.

“The bottle is distorted, but the heart symbol is exactly the same…I’m surprised.”

“I don’t think this is a coincidence. Where do you get these bottles from?”

Ah, I see.

Perhaps Marley-san thinks there is something in the bottle supplier.

As expected, she doesn’t think that a child like me is connected to Letisreel-sama. No, well, it’s not surprising. Certainly, if the bottles look exactly like each other, then it would be certain to trace back to the supplier.

However, this bottle is generated on its own, so there is no supplier. If there is a supplier, it was probably God. The bottles were originally exchanged for points from God, but they were processed by his skill.

I don’t know if it’s because it was God’s bottle or because of my skills. Maybe I should try it out on a bottle I bought at a store next time.

“My supplier is, well, it’s just…it’s kind of a special place.”

“Special?”

“Well, should I say that a private individual gave me bottles…?”

For the time being, they were bottles that were exchanged with God personally, so they can’t be wrong.

The less that is said about my personal skills, the better. So, it would be better to keep it as a special supplier setting for now.

“They’re not much of a people person, and it would be difficult to meet…”

“Can you just tell me where they are?”

“I’m sorry, I haven’t seen them in…years. I don’t know where they are.”

Marley-san shook my shoulder in a bit of a panic, as if she really wanted to see them, but when she heard my reply, she smiled sadly, “Oh, well,” she said. Then she looked at the small bottle in her hand…and hugged me tightly.

Oh, I’m sure she really misses Letisreel-sama. I’m sure she’s been waiting, pining for her for a long, long time. I had been waiting for my Hana to get better for a long time, so I felt a little sad.

“I’m sorry I couldn’t help you.”

“No. I’m just happy to have found this potion at first glance. Do you mind if I buy a few of these?”

“Oh, of course. Thank you.”

She picked up three high potions on the shelf and smiled, “Please.”

I quickly handled the payment and gave the items to Marley. I found my hands trembling a bit, and I felt somewhat miserable. Seeing me in such a state, Marley-san looked on with concern.

“I, too, believe that Letisreel-sama is here. So, well…how should I put it…”

“…I see I’ve caused you some concern. I’m sorry, and thank you. Young lady, no…I feel a little more hopeful now that I’ve met you, Hinami-chan.”

“No, I’m glad I was able to meet you Marley-san. If I ever find out anything, I’ll come to you.”

Marley looked a little surprised at my words, but she immediately smiled and nodded at me.

“Hinami-chan is a mysterious girl, isn’t she? Do I think so because I have seen this potion, or is it because Hinami-chan has a mysterious power…”

“I’m still a chick who doesn’t know much about potions, either. But if I could, I’d like to be a chemister just like Letisreel-sama.”

“Oh, I’m looking forward to that.”

I watched Marley-san leave and the shop was closed soon after.

I probably should have told her that I was looking for Letisreel-sama too, but I’m a child now because I’m young again. No, even if I wasn’t young again, I wasn’t that much of an adult to begin with.

However, I was surprised to learn that Letisreel-sama was a chemister. It hadn’t been mentioned in Ikuru’s story, so maybe it wasn’t a story that was well-known. If it was famous, then the potion Marley-san had might be targeted and it could be dangerous.

The ‘yet-to-be-seen’ Letisreel-sama must have loved plants, made potions, and lived happily and peacefully.

From what I’ve heard, she didn’t seem the type to like the idea of ‘curses.’ But so many people are now ‘cursed slaves.’ Does she know about the current state of the world? Or is she so blinded by grief that she can’t see it…that she can’t get over the shock?

No matter how much I think about it, I can’t find an answer, but I have a feeling there must be some inexplicable reason for it.

Because the potion of Letisreel-sama that Marley-san showed me looked so gentle and warm.

It was a selfish assumption on my part, though.

“Hinami-sama?”

“Oh, Ikuru…”

“It’s late so I came to see what was going on. What’s wrong?”

I thought about it for a little, but it apparently took longer than I thought it would and Ikuru seemed to be worried and looked into my face.

I honestly told Ikuru about Marley-san, and when I said that it made me think about it, he gave me his usual dumbfounded look.

“Hinami-sama’s potions are the Goddess Letisreel’s potions…Hey…”

“The bottle shapes were different, but they had the exact same heart symbol on them.”

“Hmm…”

Staring intently at the potion on the shelf, Ikuru also seemed to be thinking about something. However, it only lasted for a few dozen seconds, and he quickly turned back to me.

“Well, there’s no point in thinking about it now, so let’s have dinner.”

“Oh, yeah…I guess so. It’s true, I don’t think I’ll come to an answer if I think about it now. I’ll do my best to work at it a little at a time.”

“Yeah. That’s better.”

Somehow, Ikuru’s words made my body feel a little lighter.

One of my strengths is that I try very hard and work very hard, but at the same time I have a troublesome personality that can become a weakness. That’s why I have always been helped by Ikuru, who stops me before I try too hard.

I muttered a thank you in my heart and moved from the shop to the living room.

Now then, let’s just think about it after having a good meal.

Besides…tomorrow is the Adventurer’s Guild’s beginner’s class!
