Chapter 3: Have a drink together?

Shen NingXin was very depressed.

Zhao Jie, who was responsible for guiding her, didn’t have much work for her to do today, and only told her to learn how to make production orders and packing slips before sending her away. She herself then sat in front of the computer and scrolled through social media.

Shen NingXin practiced for half an hour and learned how to do it. After looking up, Zhao Jie disappeared to who knows where.

She sighed and took a look at the production orders stored in the computer one by one, but her thoughts could not help but drift away.

Then she remembered Qiu YiBai’s face again.

In the crowded cafeteria, Qiu YiBai’s breath that landed on her as she neared, the delightful fragrance that emanated from her body, and her pleasant voice were all heart-pounding.

However, the words that came out of her mouth were I have never seen you before.

Shen NingXin was stunned after hearing that, making her drop the chopsticks in her hand.

How could we not know each other? You even greeted me in front of the supermarket!

She was very depressed. She reached out and grabbed a blank sheet of A4 paper, took a pen, and drew on it, listing out the few encounters between herself and Qiu YiBai.

On the bus, soft and smiling.

In the office, ignoring and indifferent.

At the supermarket entrance, smiles and gentle greetings.

Then, in the cafeteria . . . she said sternly that her badge was crooked and that she couldn’t eat things strangers offered.

Shen NingXin finished the list and looked at the paper intently. After careful consideration, she still couldn’t draw a single reliable conclusion in the end.

How could you recognize me then not recognize me? Qiu YiBai, do you have a split personality!

She was silent for a moment, then opened the group chat, and wanted to ask Meng Yao and the others about her confusion.

But just halfway through typing, a phone call came through and she was told to go down and get a package.

“Yes, I’ll go immediately,” Shen NingXin answered politely, then hung up the phone and stood up.

“It’s probably my package that came,” said Zhao Jie, who suddenly appeared back at her seat, “I’ll go.”

“It’s okay, I’ll just go,” Shen NingXin smiled in response, her expression soft, “You can continue with your work, I’ll be right back.”

After speaking, she was already by the door, her movements swift.

Zhao Jie stared in the direction she left for a few seconds, and finally put down the key card in her hand, her butt never having actually moved the entire time.

She never intended to go from the start.

And how could Shen NingXin not have known that.

Although she’s only been here for a few days, she’s already figured out the personalities of many people in the office. She knows what to say according to who she’s talking to.

Zhao Jie has been here for a long time, starting from not long after the company was founded. At first, she began in the Domestic Trade Department but was transferred here two years ago for development. She was capable but also had a bad temper.

A newcomer like Shen NingXin couldn’t dare to offend someone like her.

Besides, she was indeed quite free at the moment. It wasn’t a big deal if she needed to go out to run errands, just treat it as a breath of fresh air.

Shen NingXin thought as she swiped her card to enter the elevator, and ran down to sign the package.

After she came back, the elevator had stopped on the first floor, opening slowly without needing her to swipe the card.

Then . . . Qiu YiBai’s delicate and indifferent face appeared in front of Shen NingXin.

You again!

Shen NingXin suddenly lowered her head.

At this moment, she really did not know what kind of attitude she should face Qiu YiBai with. Fearing that she’d be called a stranger again, she put her head down and pretended to be an ostrich.

Fortunately, Qiu YiBai was going down and she was going up. The two of them simply met each other out of coincidence, so there was no need to take the elevator together.

She let out a long breath of relief, and after Qiu YiBai got out, she immediately walked in. Before she could even press her floor button, though, she heard Qiu YiBai’s words floating in the air.

“Your badge is crooked again,” she said.

“Turn the clip over then wear it again,” she also said, “Pay attention, Shen NingXin.”

Shen NingXin almost spat out a mouthful of old blood.

“I understand, President Qiu . . .” She was stunned for a while before finally reacting, and quickly nodded in response before standing upright and watched her leave.

Her heart was like a galloping horse.

“Ahhhhh, this is so irritating,” she groaned as she stood inside the elevator, holding onto the package, “How come you remember me this time! And even remember my name!”

“I can’t handle any more stressful meetings like this!”

She spent the whole afternoon gloomily.

When work finally ended, Shen NingXin packed up her things and stood up to walk toward the elevator.

“Let’s go together.” Pei Qing followed behind her, reaching a hand out and patting her shoulder. “What are your arrangements after work? I know a really popular bar nearby, want to go together?”

“Maybe next time.” Shen NingXin smiled. “I already made plans.”

“That’s really a shame then,” Pei Qing answered when she heard those words. She took out a pair of sunglasses from her bag and murmured, “But I guess a pure girl like you probably wouldn’t go to bars, right~”

Her voice was low, but the ending tone was deliberately raised, making those who heard her feel uncomfortable.

But she was wearing sunglasses, her eyes completely covered, making others unable to make out her expression. Shen NingXin couldn’t tell what exactly she was trying to hint at.

So she simply smiled and didn’t say anything else.

But at the bottom of her heart, she subconsciously replied, who said I wouldn’t go.

It’s just a different type of bar.

After arriving home from the bus, Shen NingXin took off the light-colored coat and untied her hair.

She then sat in front of her makeup mirror, drew an eyeliner along the edge of her eyes, applied a pearlescent light eyeshadow, and finished off with a cherry-colored lipstick.

After that, she picked up the curling iron and curled a look that was mature yet didn’t lose any spirituality.

After all that, the once quiet, obedient baby became a playful little fairy.

No one would say she’s a minor this time.

She NingXin sighed, suddenly remembering the embarrassing scene where many people regarded her as a minor the first time she went to Night Talk with her older cousin. Looking back at it now, she couldn’t help but smile.

Fortunately, she met Meng Yao and the others, and after a makeover, those misconceptions finally ended.

A phone call interrupted her thoughts. Shen NingXin hurriedly picked it up, and Meng Yao’s voice came through.

“Are you done getting ready?” she asked, “Jiang Yue and Li Shan have already arrived. I’ll pick you up and go there together.”

“Yes, I’m done.” Shen NingXin nodded, quickly walking downstairs while carrying her small bag. She then hopped into Meng Yao’s car like a bird.

“How’ve you been these past few days? Did anything happen? Tell me about it, “Meng Yao asked while starting the car.

As soon as her voice fell, Shen NingXin suddenly made a crying face.

“You don’t understand!” In the noisy bar, Shen NingXin was holding a glass of wine and sipped while complaining to Meng Yao and the others. “Every time she sees me, she has a different attitude. She smiles sweetly for one moment then turns grumpy the next.”

“She even scolded me this afternoon,” she complained quietly, her cheeks flushed and lips pursed subconsciously. “She said that my badge didn’t meet the standards.”

“Ya, she really is too much then!” Li Shan replied and smiled. “That really is weird.”

“But Shen NingXin, the state you’re in doesn’t seem right either.”

As soon as her voice fell, Shen NingXin glanced over. “What do you mean?”

“It’s a bit like,” Li Shan let out a light cough, “like a girlfriend complaining about how their lover doesn’t understand them?”

“. . . . . .”

Shen NingXin wanted to jump up and fight her.

After the group of friends chatted for a while, the lights in the bar suddenly began to change, signifying the start of a performance.

“Let’s go!” Meng Yao looked ahead. “There’s a really good singer here today! Let’s watch the show!”

“You guys can go ahead,” Shen NingXin shook her head and refused, “I’ll sit here and watch your stuff.”

She wasn’t in high spirits at the moment.

Seeing her say that, Meng Yao and the others didn’t insist anymore, and they left after leaving a few words.

Shen NingXin stared at their leaving backs for a while, then retracted her gaze and continued drinking from the glass.

Before long, someone lightly patted her twice. “Would you like to have a drink together?”

It was obvious they were here to flirt with her.

Shen NingXin has had these encounters in the past, too.

However, she’s never been interested in these kinds of things. One comes, she’ll reject one. Two come, she’ll reject both.

In addition, she was in a bad mood, so she didn’t even have the heart to respond to that person.

The woman behind her probably noticed her unwillingness. Although a little embarrassed, she still continued on with a few words.

“I’m really good,” she said, pulling up a chair and sitting next to Shen NingXin. Her cool voice had a hint of charmingness in it. “Want to try it with me? Top or bottom, I could do either.”

“No, I’m good,” Shen NingXin sighed and turned around to reject her more clearly. “I don’t . . .”

Before she could finish speaking, the two of them were both suddenly stunned.

“Shen NingXin?!”

“Assistant Han?!”

It’s so lively today . . . . . .

Shen Ningxin was almost about to burst into tears.

The atmosphere was awkward for a few seconds, and Assistant Han broke the silence first, panic evident in her tone. “What happened just now . . . don’t tell anyone.”

“What just happened?” Shen NingXin quickly answered, sitting still and blinking her eyes, pretending to be stupid.

“Did anything happen between the two of us?”

Assistant Han nodded in response, and reached out and patted her shoulder.

The wine in the glass was not finished yet, and neither had the courage to leave first. After a long silence, they began to chat.

“Are you used to the work now?” she asked, her tone finally returning to normal, “You can come find me if you ever encounter any problems.”

“I see, thank you.” Shen NingXin quickly nodded.

In fact, she had a lot of problems right now.

Shen NingXin sighed, hesitated for a while, and finally decided to ask Assistant Han about something.

Such as—

“I’ve actually been wondering about something for a while,” she began, considering her words, “I want to know, does President Qiu . . . does she have a twin sister?”

See what this child was forced to say.

Assistant Han was taken aback, then gently shook her head. “No, why do you suddenly ask?”

Shen NingXin sighed and explained her reason.

Assistant Han almost laughed to death after hearing her response.

“Ay!” She stretched out her hand to pat Shen NingXin’s shoulder and asked her to calm down. She then got close to her ear and revealed a secret, “Don’t think too much, hah, she’s not targeting you.”

As she spoke, she raised her eyebrows slightly, giving her the you-know-what-I-mean look.

“President Qiu, ah, she’s really just face blind.”
