Chapter 342: Evelyn And Steve Finally Settle Things

"I was completely wronged, Eve. I never cheated on you with her. She planned everything and this is why I hate the best friend duo because they are the ones responsible for why you abruptly left me," Steve said as he caressed her face lovingly.
"Although they were responsible for why I left, you never email, text, call or came to see me. It was as if you were happy that you finally got rid of me...,"
"Of course that is not true. Each time I come on a business trip to California I have always made it a point of duty to visit you. Apart from business trips, on each of your birthdays in those two years, I visited you. I always left you a gift at the front of your doorstep. I have watched you in the dark for the past two years," Steve concluded in a meek yet serious tone.
The moment he mentioned visiting her during the past two years, her mind went back to when she was in California.
She can still recall how she sometimes feel as though someone was watching her every move.
On each of the two birthdays she stayed there she indeed got some of her favourites gifts lying at her doorstep. She has always thought that it was her friends over there who kept the gift for her. The thought that he was the giver never crossed her mind since he never kept in touch with her.
"Really? You really gave visited me?" Evelyn asked suspiciously.
"I love you, Eve. I have never been serious about any other woman like I am serious about you. I might not have been super faithful while you were away but I am damn serious about you," Steve said honestly.
"I know you might have done a lot of naughty things with other ladies while I was away and I am angry with you for that but I am happy that I am superior to all of them," Evelyn said with smiles. Words could not describe how happy and contented she was at the moment.
"Let's go to bed early. I am sure you will be damn busy tomorrow because of the party," Steve said as he lay down and pulled her unto himself.
"No sex tonight?" Evelyn asked while staring at his face.
"No, I want you to have enough sleep tonight so no sex," Steve said as he stroked her hair. Evelyn merely smiled at him as she snuggled into his warm embrace.
The next day she woke up very early despite that she did not need to go to the office. She showered before she went downstairs to give the chefs instructions on what to prepare for breakfast.
She stayed in the kitchen and oversaw that everything was in order. After breakfast was served she went upstairs to wake him up. She was a bit surprised when she saw him wet and on the phone with someone.
Without making a sound she gently sneaked towards where he stood. What she did not know was that Steve had already known that someone had entered the room.
Just when she wanted to startle him, he turned around to her surprise. He smiled at her before he continued with his conversation on the phone.
"So, how is everything over there? Has Catherine's father accepted you or are you still lost at what to do to please him?" Steve asked before he put the phone on speaker following Evelyn's instructions.
Jeff began narrating what he had been passing through since he reached there. At the end of his narration, Steve and Evelyn could not resist laughing.
"Did you think it was a piece of cake to please a father especially a father who raised his daughter alone until she turned a woman?" Evelyn asked seriously.
"If you thought a father-in-law was like a mother-in-law you could just flatter or buy her favourite jewellery and she will accept you then you were very wrong, Jeff," Evelyn said with smiles.
"It takes more than flattering and material things to please a father-in-law so be prepared to suffer some more...,"
"Hey, Jeff don't let Eve's words scare you because I am sure all your hard work will pay off. Her dad will fall in love with you at the end of the day when he is convinced that you are not only a hardworking young man but also that you love his dearest daughter very much. I am sure that will happen so don't be sad or discouraged," Steve tried to encourage.
"Hey, why will I be discouraged? I love Erin so much, not even her father or anyone can stop me from pursuing what I want so don't worry because I've got this," Jeff said sounding very optimistic.
"Yeah, this is the right spirit. Good luck buddy," Steve said in a playful tone. The two kept on talking on the phone. Evelyn who was afraid he might catch a cold due to his wet hair picked a towel made him sit in front of the dressing mirror before she began drying his hair.
After he was done with the phone call, he did the necessary things before he joined her downstairs for dinner.
That same day Jasmine who was bored at home decided on visiting Elizabeth at home and Jackson had no choice but to make arrangements. He was so glad when he learned that both husband and wife took a day off from work.
He got her all dressed up before the two of them made their way to the couple's home. Alfred and Elizabeth were both very excited to have them at their place. They entertained Jackson and Jasmine in a way that made them feel at home.
The four of them chatted together for a long time and also played some fun games introduced by the naughty Jasmine. They were all playing when Jasmine took her sister to the porch. The guys were surprised by her action but they did not say anything.
"Lizzy, I am sure you are aware that Mrs Evelyn's mum birthday is tomorrow. I know Evelyn must have invited you and Alfred...,"
