The post-storm environment is a bit of an odd flying experience. The bird flaps heavily, trying to ride the chaotic winds and navigate the shears, as it blows one way and then the other. Despite that the sun is out once again, there are no thermals, as the ground has been soaked. Still, flight, although difficult, remains possible.
Tomorrow I'm going to meet up with Sala again. I need to discover if she's running some kind of long term gain.. or if I'm just something she's playing with. If this is all a game, then so be it, I'm happy to play. But if I'm being finessed into some kind of power play or trickery, I need to find a way to turn it back on her. If she wants me to help make her rich or powerful or something, she should just ask me for that. But I'll return to her the same as she gives me.. honesty with devotion, fun with fun, and manipulation with manipulation.
..Although I'll need to keep in mind that she has fed me, and fed me good stuff. So whatever happens I'll be pretty nice.
This time they're meeting in the open, instead of in the same restaurant again. The bird is mildly disappointed, but Sala is carrying a vial of something. Curiosity and intrigue, for the moment, outweigh the lack of food.
"Okay. Next time you need to head northwest, to the mountain town of Azdira. It's a bit further than Lunatia, about twice as far. There, you'll need to find a certain shopkeeper, Orla, a cheesemonger. She'll have several sealed jars of rennet. I want you to add this to her jar called "Tulum". I then want you to mix them, and then refill the vial with the results, and return the full vial to me. Is that clear?"
"Seems simple enough, but I'm a little worried. You've got me messing with food. I don't like messing with food, it's the most important part of the day. What do you need to mess with this cheese for?"
"I'm going to make some cheese with the modified rennet you bring back, so you can taste for yourself that everything is fine. You can eat the result."
"Hmm.. well, that seems okay. Are you trying to steal Orla's secret cheese recipe or something?"
"Something like that. So are you up for it? I've got your claim slip for your last job. You can deposit it for your money, and Kuzenko paper is good anywhere in the kingdom."
"Actually, the air is bad today. I think I'll just rest up, get some good food, and head out tomorrow. It's not that urgent, is it?"
"No, not really, but sooner is better. It's a bit of a longer trip anyway. You're taking the job, though, right? And for thirty silver?"
"Yeah, it seems like a thirty silver job. I'll take it."
The bird then leaves the ally, flying up to the rooftops, before sneaking back around, flattening itself out spread-eagled, and crawling to the lip of the building to keep an eye on Sala.
Maybe she'll give away something about what's going on.
Nope. The bird is slightly disappointed as Sala returns to the Kuzenko building, before eventually heading to the restaurant once more for another evening meal. There might be a meeting in there, but Raucous doesn't want to risk flying down to the window to see if she's eating alone. It's one thing to do a flyby with a target who has never seen him before, but.. well, the bird is handling this situation with a lot more caution.
Anyway, it's late again, time to sleep. Raucous lands on his makeshift nest, made from sticks and fabric scraps, turns his head around 180 degrees, and sticks his beak into his back feathers. Sleep time.
