Something strange was happening to him, he could feel it. It began the morning after the night when they had first consummated to make their affection known to each other, and he was puzzled by this. Words failed to describe this sensation, this funny feeling rattling in his bones and quivering under his skin. It had to be him and only him, he thought to himself, for if she felt the same she would have worded her voice about this sooner. She was more vocal then he was, so he figured this was possibly his own misguided thoughts troubling him. After all, what were to happen in the future now? His social life was nonexistent, no friends to be known and no family that he was aware of, and the only person he expected to see wouldn't arrive for another two winters. Auguste meant well of course, but he could not help but fear the worst outcome should he discover what happened.

Felix stood by the cabin dipping his hands into a half-filled bucket of water, rinsing and rubbing the dry mud stains off his fingers. His eyes grew fixated to the reflection as the rippling waters began to calm, showing him a face he had once recognized weeks prior only to now see a stranger look him back in the eyes. Who is this new man, the owner of this new face who stared back with vigor and confidence? It could not be his face, he did not recognize such emotions nor lay claim to them as his own.

No, everything began to change when she came upon him and entered his life. It was that night when they joined together in bed, he kept that fond memory and saw it every time he closed his eyes. His hand rubbed the sore spot on his neck, a place where she sunk her fangs into the morning after when they made love a second time. Then they made breakfast before going for a third round. Then they began their daily chores only to be disrupted by a fourth go and later a fifth. That night they lay exhausted, drained and satisfied before sharing a deep sleep with his hands wrapped around her waist, and such has been a way that they have slept ever since for fifteen days.

In those fifteen days, he had grown. In those fifteen days, he had began to change. Not in the way that a child changes when they enter an age and shed their infancy as they transcend into a stage of adolescence and early adulthood, but rather a peculiar and interesting change in which he found his body behave differently. It began with that strange tickling feeling the morning after they made love, that lingering feeling which he could not shake off no matter how often he rinsed and bathed, it was not the same as to wash off the dust under his fingernails or the stains off his sabots. He remembered it now, it was that time when they had to rebuild the fence around the pigsty due to the damage from the storm knocking down a few wooden posts. KuliKuli had been the one to point out the weight he was able to carry over his shoulder with one arm, it was enough wooden posts that required two men to carry between them. He dismissed this at first, believing that old wood may be lighter due to age and perhaps he had grown use to the physical labor after working around this place for months. Then came the second event where he was able to track the movement of fish swimming at the riverbank the next time they went. She raised her eyebrow when he pointed out a nearby trout before diving headfirst to retrieve it between her fangs. She kept quiet this time but ironically her silence spoke loudest to him as he silently questioned if it was abnormal for him to spot the fish the same as she had, he just assumed that she had taught him well enough.

It was this morning when he confronted this thoughts as something unnatural happened again, an unexpected experience in which she raised her head suddenly, her ears perked up and alert while she stared off into the forest nearby. But she was not alone, in any other time he would watch her curiously and sometimes ask what caught her attention, none of these events was it anything dangerous but rather simple such as a form of wildlife approaching nearby to feed before walking away. Today, he heard something snap followed by the crunch of weight stepping on dried leaves, and that noise was loud enough to grab his attention as he turned his head toward its direction. He swore it was loud enough that his skin jumped as he feared someone had snuck behind him, but it was not the case. Far from it, when he turned his head all he was met was the grassy field tucked behind Auguste's home with the high trees of the forest not too far away. He squinted his eyes and could make out some shrouded figure, some animal bowing its head down to nibble on some green grass, crunching away with its jaws in delight. He sighed in relief, his eyes did not dare to look away until he felt a paw nudge at his arm.

"Master?" He turned to see KuliKuli give him a worried look. She gasped and stepped back, covering her mouth with her two paws as his heart began to race. "What's wrong?"

"Your eyes!" She leaned in for a closer look. "Master, your eyes are different colors."

"My..." His eyes? He walked past her and headed toward the cabin, hearing her hurry behind him as they stepped inside. There was a mirror inside tucked away at a corner and shrouded with a white blanket. He uncovered it and knelt down, peering into his reflection and gazing into his own eyes. KuliKuli held her breath as she leaned against his shoulder.

She was right, his eyes were changing as well. His eyes were a natural brown color but he spotted a hint of amber blending in creating a sort of caramel tone around his iris. Would this affect his sight as well? It was possible due to the recent occurrence, though the thought of his hearing being enhanced had entered his mind as well.

"Master, will you be okay?" KuliKuli swallowed nervously, feeling it may be foolish to ask. She hadn't a clue what was happening to him, but she too had begun to notice some changes in her mate.

Yes, her mate. That was who he was now, not just her Master but her mate as well, Her chosen beloved, someone she wished to share her life with. Those feelings ran strong that night and they continued to run strong today, but now she feared that perhaps there were unexpected consequences rising.

"I don't know." He answered truthfully, holding her paw. "But... I don't feel bad. Just different."

"Is different good?" She asked him in return.

He smiled and nodded, pressing his forehead onto her own. "I think this one is, yes."

The two held each other close, hugging one another as was visible through the back window of the cabin. It would be dark soon as was evident by two of the three moons resurfacing in the sky once more. Tonight would be a full moon, a frequent occurrence that happened three times a month as each moon would take turns revealing itself before the blackest night, a night where all three moons disappear.

Off into the distance of the forest, a howl could be heard.
