Going to a furniture store with my fiancee

After we finished having our burgers, we decided to go to the furniture store nearby.

This store was much bigger than the hamburger store, as it was a two-story building. But that was to be expected. It’s a furniture store. Of course it needs space.

As I went to the entrance at the first floor, while thinking about such trivial things, I immediately saw a sample of a winter interior coordinated with an autumn room, and it said something like, “If you get all these samples, you can live all alone just for this price!”

“It’s an illusion…”

It would be very difficult for a normal person to have such a beautiful room

So when I muttered something close to a sigh, I saw Shiori looking at me.

“Do you like this kind of room?”

“No, not really, but I’d like to live in a room like this.”

“Hm.”

When I answered, Shiori looked at the sample room.

“What about you, Shiori? Do you want to live alone in a room like this? No, you’re a girl. Would you prefer a prettier room instead then?”

When I asked her, she thought about it for a moment and then shook her head sideways.

“I don’t want to live alone if I can help it.”

“Is that so? It’s so nice to be alone. You don’t have to worry about anything if you’re alone.”

“–It’s lonely being alone.”

It seems that I’ve stepped on a landmine of some kind.

You can’t tell if she’s sad or not because her face is expressionless, but it’s a meaningful statement.

“Well, everyone has their own opinion.”

When I gave a bland answer, she nodded her head.

“Well, that’s it. It’s a shame to just buy a futon and leave immediately, so let’s go and take a look around.”

I said this with the intention of changing the subject, and she replied with, “Okay.”

So we went ahead and took the escalator to the second floor.

On the second floor there were beds, desks, sofas, and other large furniture available to purchase. In contrast, the futon that we wanted to buy was being sold on the first floor.

Whenever I go window shopping, I enjoy going to the second floor where I have nothing to actually buy up there, just for the sake of exploring it, then I go back to the previous floor to buy what I needed.

“Oh, I like this.”

I found an expensive looking sofa in the sofa zone and sat down on it.

“Oh. Good, very good.”

I bounced on it to check its elasticity.

“You should sit down too, Shiori.”

I invite her to sit down, and so she does.

“This is… good.”

“Right? Wow… I want one now… Do you think I should buy it?”

Shiori pats me on the shoulder and points to the price tag in front of me.

“Kojiro is bourgeois?”

“–It’s not an easy price for a poor student with no part-time job to pay…”

I let out a sigh and stood up, only to be tapped on the shoulder once more

“The couch at Kojiro’s place is not too shabby.”

“–Well, thank you.”

She follows up with a thumbs-up, as if she’s trying her best at comforting me.

But the expression on her face is so blank that it’s hard to tell if she’s really trying to console me or not.

“Kojiro. Look at that–”

After passing through the sofa zone, we came to the bed zone.

Shiori pointed at a bed that she had seen in a commercial recently, a bed made of some kind of very good material.

Shiori walked over to the bed, and since it said it was, “OK to lie down” she did so without hesitation.

“How is it?”

I asked Shiori, who was lying on her back staring blankly at the ceiling. She thought carefully for a moment before answering.

“–Very… good!”

I heard her exuberant voice for the first time ever.

Is it that great? I’m tempted to try it out now.

“Do you want to try sleeping on it too, Kojiro?”

“Sure.”

She seems to be willing to switch with me, so I lie down on my back too.

“–Ah…”

I’ve never done this before, but it feels as if I’m wrapped up in a cloud which is gently enveloping my whole body.

I turn over and lie down.

“Feels good, doesn’t it?”

“–Uwah!”

The beautiful face of an angel appears in front of me close-up, and I can’t help but shout in surprise.

Reflexively, I get up.

“O, oh! I thought you were going to switch places with me!?”

“I didn’t say that we’re going to take turns.”

“What are we? A couple lying in the same bed!”

“We’re not a couple. We’re engaged.”

“No… why are you so calm?”

“Why are you in such a hurry? We’ve already been through this before.”

“Don’t tell me that we’ve been through this!”

I got embarrassed and got out of bed.

“You’re innocent at this”

“–This…”

She lays down on her back and tells me to lie down. I feel like I’ve been mocked.

It’s frustrating… But I’m not going to lie down again because it will only make me feel more nervous than before.

“H-Hey! Let’s go.”

“Wait… I’m buying this bed…”

“You’re buying this bed…?”

I point to the price just like Shiori had done to me.

“Are you wealthy, Shiori?”

When I said the same thing to her, she looked at me with a blank expression and held something between her fingers.

“Credit…card…?”

What kind of high schooler has that kind of stuff? You must be really wealthy!

I was about to make a comment about it, but then I took a closer look–.

“–It’s a cash card!”

I felt a little relieved.

“Hmm. Kojiro is naive. This is where I keep all my money.”

“How much is it?”

“Five thousand yen.”

“A…Ah–.That’s too little!”

“Multiplied by 100.”

“–Oh! Ohh…! You have enough!”

I’m sure you have a lot of savings for a regular high school student. At least she has a lot more money than me.

“I can afford to buy this bed.”

“No, wait. There’s no room for a bed like this.”

Shiori froze when I calmly told her.

And then she stares at me.

“–No?”

“No.”

“Why not?”

“I’m telling you, there’s no room.”

“How about we swap the bed we’re using?”

“Wouldn’t that just be a waste of money?”

“I’ll sleep with you every night.”

“–That! That’s…”

It’s tempting. But sooner or later, my reasoning will get the better of me. I’m not going to attack a girl I don’t like nor am going out with. Oh… I’m such a loser…

“No, no!”

I’m sure Shiori doesn’t like me either, so that’s definitely not a good idea.

No, maybe she’s saying that because she likes me?

“Too bad…”

Shiori got up from the bed, looking disappointed.

“I’m going to go buy a futon.”

“Oh, yeah…”

Shiori said and walked ahead of me.

I don’t know anymore. I guess this girl just wanted a bed after all.
