The Leader’s Decision
I can feel my vampiric blood surging inside me. These things make my blood boil. Leonardo walks off with a few of his werewolf friends toward the other pack. He had contacted them.
We arrive at the other pack’s hideout. Leonardo turns to me and signals the way in, so I open the door to the room and he enters first. It seems that he is talking to the other potential leader from this group.
“No one would want to follow a useless coward like you! Get out of here! The more powerful one should be on top!”
After being shouted at, Leonardo is kicked to the ground by several werewolves and shoved out the door.
“Oh dear, what trouble. You’re causing us a lot of problems,you know, what are you going to do about it?”
I walk inside, not giving off a founder’s aura. I want to know what these guys are really like first.
“Who the hell are you? Vampire, this is no place for the likes of you! Get out of our business!”
“What do you mean? We have a lot to do with this. We’re all in trouble because of your horrid eating habits. We got along well with the humans, and the Japanese police are competent. If this continues, you’ll eventually be discovered. That’s not good for us, either. It’s actually a nuisance, to say the least.”
Some of the bloodthirsty wolves in the group are snarling, and some are raising their voices. One of them, who must be the leader of the pack, comes toward me. He glares me down, but then quickly backs up as if he’d sensed something.
“You… Are you the founder?”
“Well, it’s amazing that you can even recognize me when I don’t let out an aura. So? Does anybody elsel want to come at me? You can come on out.”
A couple of them try to stand in front of me, but can’t get close enough. Yes, I’m now giving off the aura of a founder.
Now I’m like, “So much for that. I don’t enjoy fighting, so I came here to say what I have to say. Your leader here shall be Leonardo.”
The leader of the other pack growls at me. I say,
“Leonardo is now my friend. And I agree with his philosophy. You can’t lead a pack just because you’re strong. A leader must also be prepared to protect the pack. This is why you aren’t a leader. You endanger your people. You’ll all be exposed and punished like the witch hunts of the past. After all, you’ve attacked humans. You’re a danger to them. If you become leader, the werewolves of this country will be wiped out.”
At this, all the werewolves there quickly distance themselves from the man.
“If you want to attack humans, go ahead. But when they catch you, you better be in wolf form or you’re all finished.”
The other werewolves gulp at my words.
“Wanna know something? The Japanese police are already on the move.”
I grin and look at the werewolves here. Then someone replies.
“You know, there has been a lot of cops around lately.”
I add after him.
“In this day and age, there are security cameras all over the place, even in cars. I hope they didn’t catch anyone in the act.”
The atmosphere is clearly different from before.
“The rest is up to you. If Leonardo becomes leader, I’ll help you guys, and listen to what you have to say. That’s all.”
With that, I left. I return to the car and check my phone.
There is a message from Yuki. Just a simple, ‘We need to talk.’
I send a reply right away, that I’m on my way home.
I asks her to come to my house if she wants. I hurry home.
I’m sure Leonardo will be the leader this time. There is nothing to be afraid of, with a vampire founder behind him. We’re immortal, and some of us are powerful in the business world. I don’t fear even the prime minister of this country, and I have connections to other heads of state and representatives from other nations. Of course, the same goes for the president; who has one of our own in his entourage.
