“Let’s take our hands off from this before it gets loud. I’m sorry to the professor, but this is the best we can do. I don’t want to touch that marital dispute with a six-foot pole. Attorney Do works under you, so come up with a reasonable excuse to kick him out. Isn’t that your specialty?”

“Wait for now,” Sehun said.

“We don’t have time for that. First, let’s inform Secretary Tak and tell him to start cutting off Attorney Do’s access to our firm’s internal system… You boot him from that M&A project that you’re doing,” Mihee said.

As she spoke, she reached out for the intercom button. Sehun, who had merely been sitting this whole time, moved. He blocked Mihee’s arm and snatched the receiver from her hand, returning it to its cradle. Mihee gave him a questioning look, and Sehun repeated amenably, “I told you to wait.”

“Do you have a better idea than mine?”

“Not yet. I’m thinking of how to defend him right now.”

Sehun’s statement wasn’t earth-shattering, but she looked shocked as if she heard something revolutionary. No matter how positive of a light she saw Yoonshin in, hearing Sehun of all people saying that he would continue to carry Yoonshin in his team was completely beyond her. As far as she knew, Sehun had no concept of protecting anyone in his entire life.

“Are you nuts? This isn’t something to decide on an impulse!”

“I never said this was impulsive. I’ve been thinking about this for a while.”

Ever since Yoonshin entered the firm, Sehun had been feeling conflicted. At first, he contemplated between kicking Yoonshin out or keeping him. Next, Sehun wondered whether he should allow himself to be used voluntarily or turn a blind eye to the other. In the big picture, everything was based on the fundamental question of whether he would keep Yoonshin at any cost.

He had dissected his and Yoonshin’s positions whenever he had free time to the point he was sick of thinking about it. Finally, his head had become clear. He thought this was for the best.

“We don’t know the future. We might not need to do anything against Soohan. Director Do also hoped for that,” Sehun stated.

“You aren’t thinking of keeping Attorney Do, are you? That’s practically a double suicide. You’re not one for betting everything on an opaque future. It’s only right to eliminate all risks,” Mihee tried to persuade him.

“Let’s do this then. If Soohan starts to pressure you, then I’ll leave Doguk with Yoonshin Do. So don’t tell the other partners yet. Those old codgers will throw a fit.”

Mihee had thought that Sehun would be on the same page as her, so she looked completely lost. She looked aghast—devastated, almost. The sharpness in her tone dulled down. “Are you out of your mind? Did you lose your marbles? Maybe you need to book a doctor’s appointment first.”

“Unfortunately, I’ll be quite well off in any other firm even if it’s not here. The only reason I’m here and not at the top law firm in the country is because you—my upperclassman Mihee Song, who sponsored me from middle school to law school and paid for all my tuition and living expenses—had asked me. I think I’ve liquidated all my debts to you at this point. From now on, you and I are independent of each other. If Doguk needs me, the firm should cater to me.”

This situation seemed to be completely beyond Mihee. She couldn’t accept his proposition. Sehun was the top money-maker of the firm. At times, his presence changed the result of a matter. There was absolutely no reason for the firm to let go of such an invaluable asset.
