As thankful that Yoonshin was to Sehun for teaching and leading him through everything, Yoonshin was also embarrassed and sheepish about it. He felt like a spoon-fed, small animal. Although he had tried to answer as nonchalantly as possible, Yoonshin pulled away from Sehun to stare at him, but Sehun wasn’t looking at him. However, Yoonshin wasn’t so imperceptive as to not know that Sehun’s full attention was on him.

Generally, the enemy’s enemy could be one’s ally. Yoonshin felt odd because it felt like Sehun was prophesying that he would one day ally himself with Soohan’s enemies. Yoonshin had never really mentioned his sister’s situation to the older man before. She had told him to keep silent about it, but that wasn’t the only reason he kept quiet. Yoonshin was scared that if he mentioned this to Sehun, the older lawyer would back away from their relationship to protect his own interests.

Yoonshin was uneasy, worried that a rumor had started to circulate without him knowing. How many things happened without his knowledge? Was that why Sehun continued to press for a statement of claim, mentioned that he was used to being used by others, and drew a line between him and Yoonshin? However, he couldn’t interrogate the other with just a hunch and no material evidence, so he hesitated. “Attorney Kang.”

“Let’s go.”

In a great trick of fate, the doors of the elevator opened just as Yoonshin was about to ask Sehun. They arrived at the basement parking garage. The firm-affiliated driver spotted them, stepped out of the car, and opened the doors to the back seat.

Sehun got in first and Yoonshin after him.

There were a lot of things Yoonshin wanted, but Sehun started to focus on his work, so Yoonshin couldn’t bring himself to interrupt. Few words were exchanged between the two on their return trip. An unfamiliar silence weighed down on their shoulders.

Sehun had stepped outside to go on a late-night walk. He walked for so long that he nearly forgot about the cold weather. He only wore the black pants that encased his long legs, his thick turtleneck knit sweater over his built torso, and the coat draping his shoulders. He continued to walk, not paying mind to the temperature. After about an hour, he was back near the apartment complex.

He let out a sigh, then he stopped and looked up. The bright moon looked like it was locked into the black sky. He glanced at the apartment right in front of them, then he checked the commercial building next to it. He decided to drop by the convenience store first.

He picked out some condoms, lube, and a bottle of carbonated beverage, setting them down on the counter.

“A pack of cigarettes, too.” He pointed at the brand that he smoked from time to time, then he passed his card to the employee. Suddenly remembering something, he scanned the snack shelf. He found the lemon-flavored candy that Yoonshin had pushed into his mouth one time. He paid for the bag of candy as well and exited the store.

He never realized how cold it was until a strong wintery gust of wind ambushed his exposed head. It wasn’t that the temperature suddenly dropped. Sehun knew that this change in perception occurred because his destination was the warmest place imaginable—he was simply anticipating the warmth.

Sehun smirked at himself and headed to his destination. He entered the building that he didn’t live in and stood in front of the door of the apartment that he had once visited. After pushing the doorbell, he could hear rustling inside of the homeowner checking who it was on the doorbell camera. The door burst open.

“Senior Attorney Kang? What brings you here at this time of day?” Yoonshin asked, looking pleasantly surprised.

“I’m here to see you. Do you have a moment?”

“I do have time, but… you should have contacted me in advance. I would have cleaned up a little. My apartment is a mess right now.”

Yoonshin seemed to have washed up before going to bed. The younger man answered his door in light-colored pajamas. His bangs must have bothered him—they were pinned up with a yellow hair clip.
