Your turn

(Secret)

The man jumped down from the roof without saying anything else.

Shen Dongqing craned his neck. He didn’t see the scene where the guy fell and shattered into a watermelon, but he did see a half-head rise up from underneath.

“Now it’s your turn.”

AD

Shen Dongqing looked at the head for a while. For some reason, he absolutely hated this face that resembled his, and reached out to press the person down when he was unprepared.

The man let go of his hand and fell straight down.

What occurred next was that the person did not fall to the ground, but simply vanished, as if he had never existed.

“You really think I’m a fool,” Shen Dongqing muttered as he retreated from the edge of the roof.

Fang Qi rotated his sore neck to the left and right, then looked down at the “corpses” on the ground.

The students, bewildered by something, formed a line to jump from the building’s rooftop. Thankfully, Shen Dongqing had knocked them out in time, preventing a disaster.

They were all lying on the ground now. Nobody was sure what to do next.

“They will continue to jump when they wake up,” the brat squatted on one side.

Fang Qi became so terrified that his neck “snapped”: “What?”

AD

The brat: “This building is awake.”

Attracted by the yin place’s aura, these students lost their minds and became walking dead, eventually becoming the yin place’s nourishment.

Fang Qi: “Sss—then why did I wake up?”

“Alas,” the brat curled his lips. “They’re damned.”

These students were not real people, but rather NPCs. According to their fate setting, they died precisely to revive the yin land, which was an inevitable outcome.

Yet Fang Qi had temporarily lost his memories and had no notion he was in a game world. He was unable to accept this fact.

“These are my fellow students! Is there really no hope for them?” Fang Qi asked.

Shen Dongqing crouched and rolled over the student next to him. The student’s eyes were tightly shut, his lips were pallid, and a death aura hung between his brows.

“Let’s see if we can save them,” he suggested, “get a rope and tie them all up.”

Wu Jia dashed downstairs, located a bundle of hemp ropes in the utility room, and raced back up to tie up the students one by one. He eventually knotted the hemp rope tightly to the fixture to prevent them from escaping.

“Done.” Wu Jia finished binding the students, turned around, and asked, “What should we do now?”

Shen Dongqing: “Leave them.”

Wu Jia: “Ah?”

The brat went on to say: “These people have special fates. If they commit suicide by jumping off this building, the ominous energy of this area will intensify, but if they don’t, they will be fine for the time being.”

“So before that happens, we need to resolve this situation,” Shen Dongqing stretched his body.

There were six yin places in total, forming a strange pattern, the center point of which fell on Xingyue Bay. It was bound to be in preparation for a huge conspiracy. As long as the layout of the other places was destroyed, the situation set up on the rooftop of this building would naturally be undone.

After finishing speaking, Shen Dongqing scampered to Zhou Wenyan’s side and asked, “Did you see the person next to me just now?”

Zhou Wenyan was puzzled: “Which person?”

Shen Dongqing gestured: “Someone tried to persuade me to leap off the building. He resembles me, but he’s not as kind as I am. He has an odd appearance.”

“No,” Zhou Wenyan said, frowning.

He had only seen Shen Dongqing standing on the edge of the roof for a few moments before walking back. He didn’t notice anyone else there.

Shen Dongqing returned his gaze and scratched his head: “It’s okay. Let’s go to the other locations first.”

Wu Jia went to check on the students who had been restrained and ensured they were all right. He accidentally bumped into the brat standing aside while turning around to follow the main team.

The brat was at the far back. He was not in any haste to leave. Instead, he gazed at the students who were tied up, and his clear dark eyes flashed for a second. If you peered closely, you could see a swirling mass of dark energy in his pupils.

Snap—

Wu Jia’s securely tied hemp rope broke without any apparent reason and fell to the ground. The students who were unconscious abruptly opened their eyes and glanced at the front with lifeless gazes.

The brat cocked his head and grinned quietly before leaving the rooftop and catching up with the group.

Perhaps his sense of existence was so weak that no one noticed he was missing for a while. Wu Jia was the only one who looked at him.

Wu Jia couldn’t detect anything peculiar in the brat’s smile.

Wu Jia, who was one step behind the last person to leave the building, heard a “thud” from behind him, and a little warm liquid splashed over his body.

He turned his head stiffly and saw a person who was beyond recognition, lying on the ground like a smashed watermelon.

“Ah—”

The passing students screamed, and then more bodies fell from the top of the building like dumplings.

“How is it possible?! I definitely tied them up tightly…” said Wu Jia, taking a step back.

The impact on them was significant, with so many individuals queuing up and jumping off the building to die in front of them. Wu Jia and Fang Qi appeared to be about to puke, and Shen Dongqing grimaced as well.

Only the brat stood behind the crowd, his smile unfitting his age.

Shen Dongqing appeared to have sensed something and looked back.

The brat immediately changed his expression and blinked, hiding the look in his eyes, before returning a questioning glance.

Shen Dongqing stared at him for a long time before saying, “You’re fishy.”

“What, what?” said the brat, his laugh hollow.

“Are you trying to do something bad?” questioned Shen Dongqing, rubbing his chin.

The brat’s heart tightened, and his expression showed signs of panic. “I… I’m not,” he muttered, pinching the corner of his clothing.

Shen Dongqing moved closer, pinched the brat’s cheek, and interrogated him, “Talk, how do you know so many things?”

He’d been baffled before. How could he not know the extent of the brat’s knowledge? But now he spoke clearly and logically about these yin formations and yin lands, as if he knew exactly what he was talking about. This was definitely not a simple matter.

It’s just that the brat insisted it had nothing to do with him and refused to admit it no matter what.

The brat’s small face turned red as a result of Shen Dongqing’s pinch, but he remained silent. Thus Shen Dongqing was forced to let go, threatening: “Don’t let me find out or you’ll suffer.”

The brat covered his cheeks: “Wu wu…”

The entryway to the teaching building had become a bloody mess as a result of the delay, and blood spilled through the cracks in the floor tiles, forming a stream.

“It’s too late,” Shen Dongqing thought to himself.

The damned people had already died, and the entire yin land had been awakened and activated. The entire school would fall before long, and there would be no way to stop it.

“Let’s hurry to the next location.”

The group hastened to another site in order to prevent such a tragedy from happening again.

It was a hospital.

Because a hospital is a place of birth, old age, sickness, and death, the yin energy is much thicker than in other places; nevertheless, this hospital was surrounded by black air, and the yin energy had virtually condensed into an entity. Anyone with a keen eye could see that something was awry.

The hospital was well-known as one of the city’s top three hospitals. Normally, there were a lot of patients arriving and departing every day, but now the hospital door was wide open and no one was coming or going, as if the entire hospital had become a ghost town.

Shen Dongqing stopped in his tracks: “It’s too late.”

Going in now would be a waste of time because the formation in this yin place had already been triggered.

They hurried to another location, but like the hospital, it had also sunk into death, and there was no life at all.

Shen Dongqing raised his head.

The azure sky was obscured by dark clouds at some point, and it was pitch black, as if the sky was about to collapse. Many light beams could be seen shooting up into the sky in the distance.

“Go straight to Xingyue Bay,” Zhou Wenyan said decisively.

Xingyue Bay was the largest yin land, and it had to be its turn once the other areas had revived. Everything could still be handled in time as long as the activation of Xingyue Bay was prevented.

Zhou Wenyan drove back to Xingyue Bay. Everything appeared to be normal from the outside. He pressed the gas pedal and drove into Xingyue Bay.

Outside the automobile window, the scenery flashed by.

Shen Dongqing abruptly exclaimed, “Wait!”

Zhou Wenyan engaged the emergency brake.

Shen Dongqing leaned on the glass pane, gazing out.

He had just seen a familiar figure, but now that the car had stopped, he couldn’t locate it. “Nevermind,” he rubbed his hair.

Zhou Wenyan continued driving forward and soon returned to the Zhou family’s old house.

Xingyue Bay remained silent throughout this process, and nothing unusual occurred.

They had spent the entire day racing around, but they had accomplished nothing, let alone prevented the horror from occurring.

When Shen Dongqing returned to the Zhou family’s old house, he immediately parked his bottom on the sofa, saying, “There hasn’t been any change here.”

It had not awakened like the other yin lands and was still the same as when he departed.

“It’s not time yet,” the brat said sullenly.

When he saw the brat like this, Shen Dongqing felt a bit itchy. He leaned forward and yanked hard on the flesh on both sides of his cheeks: “What do you know? Tell me quickly!”

The brat spoke inarticulately: “I’ve told you everything I know…”

Shen Dongqing assessed him and then withdrew his hand, lazily leaning back on the sofa: “What should we do now?”

Zhou Wenyan: “Wait.”

It was too late to hurry to the other yin locations. Someone seemed to have been ahead of them and employed tactics to awaken the yin sites before they arrived. They were never going to catch up.

Rather than being led by the nose by others, it was wiser to wait at Xingyue Bay and trust in luck.

“I’m sleepy,” yawned Shen Dongqing.

He tilted his head and rested his head on Zhou Wenyan’s shoulder.

“Get some sleep,” Zhou Wenyan murmured quietly as he patted him on the back.

Shen Dongqing closed his eyes callously.

Others, on the other hand, were not as relaxed as he was.

Fang Qi appeared to have received a critical hit and was huddled in a sofa corner. Clearly, the incident just now had had a significant impact on his psyche, and it would take him some time to recover; Wu Jia stood in front of the window, staring out at the yard. The rustling of the trees seemed to herald the approaching storm, while the brat shook his legs, thinking god knows what.

In this quiet environment, Shen Dongqing quickly fell asleep. His breathing slowed, his brow smoothened out, and he looked carefree.

Zhou Wenyan gazed at him for a while before reaching out to pick him up and place him in the first-floor room. He returned to the living room once Shen Dongqing had settled down.

The brat detected something, shifted his buttocks, and widened the gap between the two of them.

“Let’s talk.” Zhou Wenyan put his left leg on the knee of his right leg, and said flatly, “Leniency for confession and strictness for resistance.”

The brat covered his mouth and shook his head desperately.

Zhou Wenyan: “You did that thing on the roof.” He sounded certain.

Others might not have seen, but he couldn’t help but notice that the brat was the last one to leave the rooftop. Those students who were tightly bound could not possibly break free from the hemp rope unless someone assisted them, thanks to Wu Jia’s expert binding skills.

The brat still shook his head.

Zhou Wenyan flexed his fingers and softly buckled the sofa armrest: “I don’t want to over complicate things. To reduce trouble, I will…” He paused for a moment before lightly saying the second half of the sentence, “get rid of you.”

A shiver ran down the brat’s spine. He hesitated again and again, smiling fawningly: “Dad!”

Zhou Wenyan: “It’s useless even if you call me ancestor.”

He didn’t interrogate the brat because of Shen Dongqing’s face. Now that Shen Dongqing had fallen asleep, it was time for him to take his turn playing.

“I’ll give you three seconds; 3, 2, 1.”

Brat: Your three seconds are a little too fast!!!

What a pity that before he could say anything, he felt something strangling his neck, getting tighter and tighter, and he was lifted up directly. The brat reached out to unclasp it, but he couldn’t touch anything on his neck, despite the fact that a deep red indentation emerged out of nowhere.

“I, I’ll talk—”

He didn’t see what Zhou Wenyan did, but the brat fell from the air. He panted and gulped for air, not having time to respond for a minute.

A voice called out from behind them at this point.

“What are you doing, Wenyan ge?”

Both the brat and Zhou Wenyan turned to look at the same time and found Shen Dongqing standing at the room’s door. He had only just risen and still appeared drowsy.

When the brat saw him, it was as if he had seen his family. He instantly threw himself onto Shen Dongqing and whined.

“Dad, he bullied me!” the brat exclaimed, pointing to his neck.

Shen Dongqing: “Let me see.”

The brat glanced at Zhou Wenyan smugly before raising his head to expose his short neck, but there was nothing on the flesh, as if the pain and suffocation were delusions.

“Huh? How is this possible!”

“Don’t lie,” Shen Dongqing patted him on the head.

The brat felt wronged but was unable to express his suffering.

Zhou Wenyan couldn’t compel the brat to say anything with Shen Dongqing around. He quickly hid behind Shen Dongqing and pulled a face at Zhou Wenyan.

Zhou Wenyan didn’t respond in the least, instead looking at Shen Dongqing.

“Wenyan ge, I appear to have remembered something after I had a nap,” Shen Dongqing said.

After a long silence, Zhou Wenyan responded, “What did you remember?”

“It’s about the yin land of Xingyue Bay,” Shen Dongqing stated, “but let’s go to a place to check first.”

“Where?” asked Zhou Wenyan, standing up.

Shen Dongqing: “The core of the yin land should be in this building. Please show me around.”

The brat’s eyes shone: “I’m going too, I’m going too!”

Zhou Wenyan: “Okay. Do you want to eat something first?”

Shaking his head, Shen Dongqing said: “I’m not hungry. Let’s first settle this matter.”

“You guys should stay put,” Zhou Wenyan said to the other two individuals.

This was precisely what Wu Jia and Fang had hoped for.

“We’ll check upstairs first,” suggested Zhou Wenyan.

Shen Dongqing chuckled and agreed with him: “Anything you say.”

He moved to hug Zhou Wenyan’s arm. He wasn’t sure if it was on purpose or not, but Zhou Wenyan took a step forward to lead the way, and he missed catching his arm.
