Chapter 31: Outsider [MOON]
Is this guy stupid or something? Who does he think he is? You think the guildmasters will entertain your selfish request? This guy is definitely not onii-chan. He is not that foolish.
“No.. this is something that he definitely will do,” said Lily.
“W.. what? Are you serious? Onii-chan has never acted so arrogant before! This can not be him,” I said while crossing my arms.
“One thing I didn’t tell you about, Rose, is that your brother is insanely strong right now. Even while we were training in the elven forest, I had never beaten him once. It was like something changed in him while being in exile. Who knows how much stronger he became after two years in the Eastern continent?” said Lily.
“Yet you beat me with ease as well. I can hand over my prodigy title to him now. Ha ha,” I laughed with sarcasm.
“You just need a teacher to bring out your full potential. You might need to travel elsewhere to search for that right teacher,” said Lily.
“Alright, let’s get back on topic. How certain are you that this guy is him? He looked unarmed. I don’t see him carrying any weapons at all. If this is onii-chan, did he abandoned all his weapons?” I asked her.
“Hm, that is odd indeed. Zen always brought along his four weapons no matter where he went. Inazuma, Tengu-kaze, his gauntlets and the elven dagger that I blessed for him,” said Lily with a thinking face.
“You.. blessed the elven dagger for him? Did you like sprinkle some water on it for him or something?” I asked Lily.
“Oh no.. I just needed to hold his.. ahh never mind. It was just a simple process,” she said while smiling.
Hmm.. like what onii-chan alway used to say. Very sus indeed.
I wonder what the guildmasters will do. Will they entertain him or will they ignore his request? Oh, someone opened the window of the guildmasters glass chamber. It would appear they have a megaphone of their own too.
“Outsider, if you are that confident in yourself then we will honour your request. You will be fighting with three of our selected adventurers. Should you win, then you can challenge the two champions. However, should you fail to claim victory in any of them, you will be completely barred from this city. We do not tolerate such arrogance in this city and there will be consequences for it. However, should you win, all the guildmasters will kneel before you as a sign of respect of your strength. What say you, Mister Outsider? Dare to pick up the challenge?” said the Paladin Lord.
I am surprised that my guildmaster was the one announcing. I thought John would be speaking as he is the youngest among all of them. But wait.. what did they just say? They are actually willing to entertain his request? How absurd.
Who is going to be sparring with him? Fighting three strong opponents at the same time is not an easy feat on it’s own. Even I don’t think I can do it. You’re talking about elite veterans that had served the adventurers guild for many years. Their fighting experience alone is enough to deter many into thinking about fighting them one-on-one. I am certain that all of them had at least experienced in fighting a dragon throughout their length of service.
Looks like the first veteran is up. Wade, huh? As expected. He gave me quite a bit of trouble when we sparred. His spear can lengthen and shorten at will which can catch you off-guard easily. Along with his unpredictable combat style, he was certainly troublesome to fight with. Who is next then? Ah, Jorge from the Viking guild. I thought John would had joined the sparring as he was always looking to fight against tough opponents to fight. Jorge is definitely one of the strongest in the Viking guild. He is the perfect tanker that can really take a lot of punishment. He is probably one of the very few person that can actually withstand Lily’s punches. He is also one of the few Viking that doesn’t use an axe exclusively. He favours using a shield and a small axe instead. His shield gave me quite a problem as it was quite large and difficult to pierce through but once you figure out his weak-spots, it was easy to avoid it. Who’s the last person then?
W.. wait, what? Rhododendron is the last person? He was the running champion before I took over his position. This outsider is in for a trashing of his life. Who knew that a Dark guild member would be a long running champion for many years until I took over from him. He is strong for sure. Certainly the toughest Dark Knight that I ever fought. He really showed me the reason why he was reigning champion for such a long time not some fluke.
The announcer came on stage but the three members waved him away. They asked for the megaphone from the announcer instead.
“Last chance to surrender, lad,” said Jorge.
“You sure are tough, I’ll give you that. Never did I seen Balgruuf running scared at anyone before. Not even my Fear spell can make him packing like a little girl,” said Rhododendron.
The outsider yawned at them. Are you being serious? There is a limit on how cocky you can be. You better not be my brother in disguise.
“Let’s start. I’m itching to beat the shit out of this outsider,” said Wade while he threw the megaphone back to the announcer.
All three of them got their weapons ready. The next few seconds were unbelievable. The outsider vanished from my sight as I blinked. The next moment, he gave a palm strike to Jorge’s shield which was strong enough to push him out of the arena ring. I might have been mistaken but I thought I saw some a familiar gauntlets appearing on his fist. The next moment, he gave an elbow strike towards Wade which he managed to block but was not expecting a successive punch that came along with it. He too flew out of the arena ring. Rhododendron finally start to react to what was happening and swung his sword towards the outsider with his Dark Slash spell. But the outsider blocked his swing with his that gauntlets of his and slammed his palm onto Rhododendron’s face. Ouch, that got to hurt. What is happening to the gauntlets? One moment it was there and the next, it just disappears. All it took was three heartbeats and he took down three of the most elite adventurers. One heartbeat each. This outsider is ridiculously strong. I doubt the spectators even understood what had happened. How the hell did this guy beat three adventurers while being unarmed? Onii-chan, are you that strong now?
I looked at Lily with a surprised pikachu face. How are we going to beat this guy?! She in turn looked at me with her mouth opened and sighed. I guess the both of us better got ready then. And here I thought that we can compete with each other to find out who is stronger. So much for preparing myself within that one year. But perhaps I can take it out on this “outsider”. I hope we don’t suffer as much humiliation as those three. I thought the outsider was just being cocky but who knew he would be this strong.

Both Lily and I got down to the arena. She upgraded her gauntlets to a much stronger one after she came back. I certainly do not want to get punched by her as it will definitely hurt. Even a glancing blow cut through my flesh the previous time I sparred with her. I cannot imagine what a direct hit from it would do to your bones.
I too upgraded my rapier to a superior version. This one uses a much stronger steel that can pierce through rocks or tree trunks with ease. While it might not be able to pierce the Underwater Dragon King’s scales but it is certainly much stronger, durable and lighter than my previous one.
“Are you all ready? What an unexpected turn of events! To think both champions will be showing this outsider his place. Will he win or will he finally allow us to resume our regularly scheduled event? Let us show this outsider that he does not mess with our adventurers guild! Daisy and Rose, show him everything you got!” shouted the announcer. Geez, he sure is noisy.
We both got ready. I still cannot see his face clearly as he pulled his hood down really low. How can he even see anything? I thought Lily would had rushed towards him but she seems to be taking extra caution against him.
“W.. would you mind taking your hood off?” I asked him.
“Hm? Oh, how about you make me instead?” he said to me.

I thought about rushing towards him with my rapier but I stopped. He showed us his eyes now. It’s.. glowing! Is that.. no, it can’t be.. Concentration?! This guy can use Concentration?? Shit, this is not good. I tried learning it myself but I had no idea where to even begin. John seemed to have skipped this and went straight to Bloodlust but even he is still getting the gist of using it. He couldn’t explain how he even managed to achieve this Higher State Of Mind. All he remembered was feeling sorrow and anger at the thought of Lily’s death. Is this outsider really onii-chan?
Wait.. what is that behind him? What is that aura? That… is scary. I can’t stop shaking myself. What is going on??
I turned my head slowly to look at Lily. One of her hand was shaking but she held it with her other arm. This is not a normal Fear spell, this is like the end of everything. No wonder Balgruuf ran away. Even I want to run away now!
But calm yourself, Rose. Calm yourself. This is all just an illusion. It is not real. But shit, I still cannot stop myself from shaking. My mind might register that it isn’t real but my body is still not listening to me.

What was that? I looked at Lily and she slapped herself. She continued slapping herself a few times and shook her head. Then she performed a few breathing routine that my brother usually does and got ready with conviction. I decided to follow her. I need to keep myself calm and focused if I wish to defeat this outsider.
The outsider looked as though he was shocked by our actions. He even looked like he wanted to help us. We don’t need your help, Mister. Wait, is he smiling now?
“Not bad, Daisy and Rose. Not bad at all,” he said. What an arrogant idiot.
Lily got ready and dashed towards him. She is definitely not hesitating now. She started with a left hook to which the outsider dodged with a hair’s breath. Her punch is now leaving a shockwave every time she punches. That is one serious punch. She then continued with a punch from her right. He dodged again skilfully. He is nimble, I’ll give him that.
But what he doesn’t know is that I also did not waste my time within these four years. I discovered a way to cast two spells simultaneously. By criss-crossing certain words during the chant, I am able to cast two spells at the same time. I will chant both spells quickly and then give Lily some backup.
As I was chanting, it seemed like he noticed it. Lily’s punches was still being avoided by him. He grabbed one of Lily’s punch and tossed her towards me. I was not expecting that!
Lily collided with me. Ouch that hurts. This damn outsider is toying with us. Lily lifted me by the arm. It seems like she is getting more serious now. I should definitely follow her too. This guy is treating both of us like a fool. I finished my chanting and casted both Accelerate and Light Blessing at the same time. Lily should be much faster and stronger now but I am the one that received the most buffs from both spells. Let’s beat the living shit out of this outsider.
I nodded to Lily and rushed side by side with her taking the forward position. Once again Lily’s punch was avoided by him even with my buffs. There, I can see that he is wearing gauntlets now. It looks like it is fading in and out of existence. But I recognise that gauntlets. This is definitely onii-chan’s favourite Lightning gauntlet. But what is happening to it?
Lily continued her punches of fury. While I came in for a strike. How is this guy avoiding all of our attacks?! He is avoiding or guiding away Lily’s punches while he narrowly avoided my fast strikes. At some point, Lily even started using her fire spells. When she swings her arm, the flames trail from it. If this hits your eyes, you can go blind which is why the Elemental guild is so strict on their members. I also started using my spells. Double stab along with my signature Holy Strike. But none of our attacks are hitting him!
Damn it! This guy is like a cockroach avoiding all of our attacks. We need to stop his movements. He is not even taking us seriously while here I am fighting with all I got. Fine then, I will do something stupid but I believe he won’t be expecting it. I leaped at him and caught his leg. This should immobilise him. Lily did not hesitate and went in for a punch fortified with lightning to his face.
What happened next was once again unbelievable. The fingers on his left hand started to glow with a purple fire! He lifted it to his right shoulder and shouted “Rend!” to which he swung it across his body. A semi-transparent purple cloak draped across his body. It was a very odd looking cloak. He lifted his left hand to block Lily’s attack. Is he nuts? Lily’s punch is going to break your arm’s bones.
I was fully expecting to hear bones breaking from the impact of the shockwave but there was absolutely no sound whatsoever. I looked up and saw Lily’s punch connecting to his arm but, nothing happened? What is going on?
“Retreat!” shouted Lily.
I leaped back along with Lily. What is with this guy? How did he stopped Lily’s punch as though it was nothing? I don’t believe this. As I tried to figure out on what to do next, he disappeared in a blink and appeared in-front of us while placing his palm on my stomach. What happened in perhaps two seconds was instantaneous. He whispered to us.
“Very interesting, Rose. Seems like I have something to learn from you. Lily, you have much to improve. You should had followed me to the east” whispered the outsider.
He then sent both Lily and I flying across the arena ring.
