In the vast and beautiful ocean, there lies a solitary island.

A so-called isolated island in the midst of the sea.

This island is said to be an ancient volcanic island that ceased activity long ago. The dense forest covering most of the island has developed its own unique ecosystem.

“Kyoooooo!”

Looking up at the sky, multiple shadows fly around with sharp cries. Bathing in the sunlight, these shadows dancing joyfully in the deep blue sky are dragons. Creatures with high intelligence, terrifying magical power, and robust physical strength. Monsters that every adventurer dreams of slaying at least once, the antagonists of heroic tales.

However, hunting dragons on this island is forbidden. It is prohibited by the regulations of the Adventurers’ Guild because these dragons are valuable defensive forces for the island.

The island is named “Aabe Island,” home to the headquarters of the global organization “Adventurers’ Guild,” an island of eternal summer.

◇ ◇ ◇

This is a room within the headquarters of the Adventurers’ Guild on Aabe Island, a room filled with numerous magic circles, known as the “Transfer Room.” As the name suggests, these magic circles enable “transference.” Stepping onto them and channeling magical power can transport someone instantly to a corresponding location. These circles, magically connecting the headquarters to branches worldwide, allow for swift movement regardless of distance. These magic circles, known as “Divine Magic Circles,” were said to have been installed a thousand years ago when the gods founded the Adventurers’ Guild. It is believed that their perfect replication is currently impossible for humans.

Hiiiiiiin…

In the Transfer Room, a high-pitched sound echoes, and one of the many magic circles, connected to the Teenidies branch on the Hamejika continent, glows brightly. As the blinding light fades, two figures stand upon it: the investigators, Sainon and Taiche. They have returned to headquarters after completing a months-long assignment in Yoshanka.

“Ugh, ugh, ugh! Ah~~~, this damp and muggy heat! It’s so oppressive~~~!”

“Really? Compared to Yoshanka, this is paradise.”

“Ah, Taiche-san, you were born in Nuidosten. I was born and raised in the northern country of Akattos. I still can’t get used to this heat.”

Stretching and chatting, the two relax, having just completed a long-term assignment. They walk towards their office, bantering more than usual.

“However, we spent quite a lot of time dealing with that one woman.”

“Ha, ha, ha. Well, it couldn’t be helped. We were thoroughly instructed by the Vice-Commander. It’s true that the lower ranks have been getting lax lately.”

“A show of force, then? A disciplinary action.”

They stroll leisurely through the headquarters’ corridors. The seamless white walls of the corridor, with large windows, let in the tropical sunlight. Taiche seems to enjoy it, while Sainon looks slightly irritated as they continue walking forward.

“So, so, so, Taiche-san, what will you do after this?”

“I’m taking a day off. I’ve earned some leave. I’m quite tired.”

“Hehehe, then maybe after this, Taiche-san, we could go for a meal together…”

“Welcome back, both of you. You’ve worked hard on your long-term assignment.”

Startled by the sudden voice, they turn around to see a calm, elderly man dressed in black, a butler-like figure who seems out of place on this tropical island.

“Ga, Gaistofenangesiliard Vice-Commander!”

“Please, please, please don’t surprise us like that!”

They straighten up instantly. And rightly so. This elderly man with the long name is the number two of the Adventurers’ Guild. To them, mere office staff, he is an almost celestial being.

“Ha ha ha, my apologies. But please, don’t be so tense. Relax, relax.”

Though they relax slightly at his gentle and calm voice, it is only for a moment before the Vice-Commander’s next words make them tense up again.

“The Commander has summoned you both. Please visit the office before you leave.”

◇ ◇ ◇

“…And regarding the former receptionist Pirritza, after confirming the charges, we have seized her assets according to the regulations. She was a habitual skimmer of profits, affecting many victims, and we have yet to identify them all. We will use the seized assets for victim compensation, and the shortfall will be covered by the Guild’s budget. As for her, she has already been handed over to the Teenidies authorities and will be judged according to their laws.”

Sitting against the backdrop of the sparkling blue sea visible through a large window is a delicate blonde woman. Smiling at her, Investigator Sainon nervously reads his report. His tension

is not because he’s enchanted by her beauty. This woman, playing with her beautiful blonde hair reaching down to her waist in the tropical breeze, is Ryleen Rune, the supreme leader of the Adventurers’ Guild, ruling for over 50 years.

“As for other personnel matters, the Yoshanka branch manager Dakkante will receive a three-month salary reduction due to supervisory responsibility. The deputy manager, involved in Pirritza’s investigation, has been found to have engaged in minor misconduct. However, since it was minor and the person is remorseful, they have been demoted rather than dismissed. That concludes my report!”

“Additionally, to fill the receptionist vacancy left by Pirritza, a young man named Sadakol from the Namedake branch has been transferred and assigned. I’ve handled the office work as Special Administrative Officer until his transfer is complete, and the handover is already done. He’s a capable person and will surely revitalize the Yoshanka branch.”

Sainon and Taiche finish their report, trembling and sweating. After all, the beautiful Commander in front of them is not only gentle in appearance but also the world’s strongest active special-class adventurer. There are countless terrifying legends about her, such as instantly pulverizing a great dragon that offended her, single-handedly destroying an opposing nation, or sweeping away a monster stampede with a swing of her arm. Moreover, her appearance hasn’t changed at all. According to official Guild records, Ryleen registered as an adventurer an astonishing 300 years ago. Therefore, she is definitely over 300 years old, yet she remains youthful and ageless. Hence, her moniker is “The Unchanging.” It’s no wonder that the two regular staff members are tense.

“Hmm, I see, I see. Sainon-kun and Taiche-chan, you’ve done well! You must be tired, so rest well tonight and rejuvenate yourselves!”

Contrasting their extreme tension, Commander Ryleen’s attitude is extremely relaxed. Her drawn-out speech and appearance make it hard to believe she’s the strongest adventurer, unless you’re conversing with her.

“Oh, but you know? There’s one more thing I wanted to ask you two. That’s why I had you come here, even though you’re tired.”

“……!!”

Was there a flaw in their report? Sainon and Taiche tense up again, swallowing hard.

“What happened to Emmy-chan?”

“……Emmy?”

Who is that? Sainon is momentarily confused.

“Yes, yes, in the progress report, right? There were several mentions of that girl. I want to hear more about her!”

“……?”

Sainon still doesn’t get it, but Taiche suddenly realizes.

“Ah, ah, yes. Sainon-san, remember, the cursed girl who was banished from Yoshanka. The one who was deceived by Pirritza and exploited for her herbs.”

“Ah, ah, ah, ah! Yes!”

It finally dawns on Sainon. Emmy, the cursed girl… She is not an adventurer but a civilian. Normally, she should be the first to receive compensation for the money she was exploited for, but due to the lack of information and her current unknown whereabouts, no action has been taken yet. With the focus on compensating other victims, she had been completely forgotten.

“Hmm, hmm, hmm… Regarding the cursed girl, we did conduct an investigation for financial compensation, but… She seems to have been an orphan originally, and beyond what we reported in the progress reports, we have no further information…”

“Emmy.”

“Huh?”

“Not ‘cursed girl,’ but ‘Emmy-chan.’… Let’s be accurate in our reports, shall we?”

“Hii…”

Commander Ryleen remains smiling, but something leaks through. A killing intent that cannot be fully suppressed. A crack appears in the window glass with a sharp noise.

“Th-th-th-there’s no new information to report! I apologize! If you wish, we can continue to investigate the girl, but what would you like us to do?”

“There’s no need for that. Investigators Sainon and Officer Taiche, thank you for your hard work. You may return to your desks.”

While their faces turn pale and their throats dry up, Gaistofenangesiliard Vice-Commander, who had been listening to their conversation, throws them a lifeline.

“Yes, yes! Excuse us!”

Sainon and Taiche immediately responded and rolled out of the Commander’s office as if fleeing.

Left in the room were the beautiful Commander Ryleen and the Vice-Commander with the long name, Gaistofenangesiliard.

“…………”

While Ryleen smiles silently, she seems to be deep in thought, looking forward but not really seeing anything.

“……Are you concerned about this girl named Emmy?” the Vice-Commander asks, pouring tea from a teapot.

“Did you meet her during your incognito travels?”

With a click, the teacup on Ryleen’s desk makes a small sound. The sweet aroma tickles her nose, and finally, Ryleen’s attention returns to the present.

“……Nn, no… I’ve never met her…”

“Then why?”

Ryleen, who had started to sip her tea, did not reply immediately. Only the sound of her swallowing tea echoed in the quiet room.

“……Gaistofenangesiliard,” she starts without looking at him.

“It’s Gaistofenangesiliard, Commander. Please don’t abbreviate it. You’re the one who named me.”

“Gaistofenangesiliard… You’ve read the progress reports, haven’t you?”

Ryleen, having quickly emptied her cup, finally starts conversing with the Vice-Commander. However, she is still preoccupied, gazing blankly ahead.

“Of course. I am more meticulous than you in document review and clerical work. Actually, Commander, you should take your usual duties more seriously…”

The Vice-Commander, now alone with the Commander, mixes criticism into his words. Their relationship is more than just boss and subordinate. Well, Ryleen usually lets criticisms go in one ear and out the other. Ignoring his grumbling, she continues the conversation.

“Single-handedly defeating five Lovely Bunnies. Playing a leading role in the Togord Command subjugation. All done by a mere seven-year-old girl… Do you think that’s even possible?”

“……According to Investigator Sainon’s report, these claims are unverified and lack credibility.”

“Could you do such feats when you were seven, Gaistofenangesiliard?”

“……At seven, that would be impossible.”

“I could, Gaistofenangesiliard.”

Ryleen finally turns to face the Vice-Commander. Her expression surprises him, making him swallow hard. She has been his caregiver, teacher, and boss since he was young. She has never shown such an expression before – eyes moist, cheeks flushed, a beaming smile like a girl in love.

“I could do it, Gaistofenangesiliard. Such things.”

“…………!”

Gaistofenangesiliard knows Ryleen well enough to understand what she implies.

“So, Commander… are you suggesting this girl Emmy is similar to you?”

“Yep, can’t say for sure from the documents, but I have a feeling! An intuition! I feel it!”

Ryleen’s emotions surge, and her joy manifests as magical energy, swirling around the office.

“Ufufu, ufufufufu! I’ve been searching for so long! Someone ‘like me’! A comrade! This girl must be it! Someone to walk through time with me! To become my family!”

Papers on the desk flutter, and the room’s furnishings rattle. The already cracked window glass shatters completely and is blown away. If an ordinary person had been in the room, they would have fainted or even died from the overwhelming magical energy.

Amidst this, Gaistofenangesiliard remains calm, accustomed to such situations.

“If she’s strong, perhaps she’s been blessed by the gods?”

This suggestion seems to strike a nerve with Ryleen, and her excitement subsides. The swirling magical energy disperses and vanishes.

“……I doubt it. The gods in heaven despise black hair and black eyes.”

She snorts derisively.

“Besides, as Investigator Sainon’s report says, it’s a dubious tale. Please don’t do anything rash. Specifically, don’t resign as Commander to go search for her.”

“Muguh!?”

Ryleen coughs, just as she was about to pull out a resignation letter from her desk drawer.

“I haven’t forgotten your three-hundred-year longing, Commander. But there’s no backing for this story. False hope would be painful, right? I can’t assign Investigator Sainon to search for the girl, but… I’ll take some action on my end. After all, you’re the world’s strongest in combat but terrible at finding people, and you’re directionally challenged. Leave it to me?”

“…………Okay, I understand…”

Ryleen reluctantly agrees, slumping back in her chair and gazing at the ceiling.

“Please… take care

of it, Gaistofenangesiliard.”

“Leave it to me.”

The black-clad butler-like man bows and leaves the Commander’s office.

◇ ◇ ◇

Click.

Entering the room, Gaistofenangesiliard unlocks and opens the door to his own office. In the seemingly empty room, he steps forward and asks without turning around.

“You heard the conversation, didn’t you?”

Suddenly, a black-clad figure, gender indiscernible, kneels behind him. It’s definitely human-shaped, but wrapped in black cloth.

Without looking back or waiting for a response, Gaistofenangesiliard continues.

“Find the black-haired, black-eyed girl, Emmy. As quickly as possible.”

His tone is cold, not that of the gentle Vice-Commander beloved by his subordinates, nor the hard-working subordinate who scolds his boss.

“Then, kill her.”

A command completely opposite to Ryleen’s wish is issued. The black-clad figure makes no objection and vanishes from the room without a sound.

Alone again, Gaistofenangesiliard walks towards the window, clicking his leather shoes. The view outside shows the blue sea, the shimmering sun, a cheerful tropical landscape. In contrast, his expression is dark and sunken.

“……It’s not permissible. Such an existence cannot be allowed. You have only me. Only me as your family. Mother, mother, mother…!”

The jealous man mutters endlessly, spewing his twisted love for his mother.

Forever and ever.
