In response to Sheng Lingyun’s attitude, Ah’Bi kneeled down to thank him.
Sheng Lingyun entered Teacher Li’s room and found Sheng Gu sitting at one side looking towards Teacher Li, who was reviewing her admission test paper. He went over and greeted her, saying, “Little niece, what a surprise to find you here, in the Yulin Academy!”
Sheng Gu turned around to look and was stunned. She yelled out, “Seventh Uncle, why are you here?”
“It is your Uncle, the Emperor, who decreed me here to learn from Imperial Great Master?”[1]
From Sheng Lingyun’s manner of speaking, he didn’t have the slightest intention to study. Teacher Li looked up at him with a rigid expression, and said in a cold voice, “If Seventh Prince does not want to learn, you may go.”
Sheng Lingyun pretended to be oblivious to his remark. “That won’t work because This Prince would need to explain myself to Elder Brother, the Emperor.”
He casually glanced at the examination paper still being reviewed by Teacher Li, and seemed to sink into deep thought.
He could not help but sigh. “In the past, Second Brother had accompanied the Emperor to conquer the Beiguo Kingdom. Second Brother’s life had always been harsh, and he also died young.”
Teacher Li wrinkled his brow, apparently puzzled by Sheng Lingyun’s recounting of the past. His eyes swept over Sheng Gu as he studied her face. As expected, tears had welled up in her eyes upon hearing Sheng Lingyun’s words.
Still, Sheng Lingyun continued to speak. “I was still naive at that time and did not understand what was happening, but I can remember how happy my Second Brother was when my little niece was born…”
Teacher Li interrupted him with a cold gaze. “Seventh Prince, for what reason do you mention it now?”
Sheng Lingyun shook his head, and said, “It’s been a long time since I saw my little niece. This Prince couldn’t help but remember my Second Brother…”
Teacher Li snorted again. Apparently, he didn’t believe the Seventh Prince. But since he had mentioned this, Teacher Li had to think about it.
Although Princess Gu was from ShengHe Palace, her results couldn’t compare to the little girl that the Fourth Prince had personally escorted. Many questions were left hanging and some of the answers were unreasonable. In addition to that, her writing was not very good either…
Her result did not meet the admission criteria.
But then Sheng Lingyun mentioned the past events concerning the Second Prince. He was left with no other choice but to consider again. After all, Princess Gu was the only child of the Second Prince, who had taken down more that half of the rebels of Beiguo Kingdom…
Thinking upto this, Teacher Li knitted his brows.
Coincidentally, Headmaster Chen visited at this time and saw that Sheng Gu had arrived to take an admission test. He gazed at Teacher Li who was still holding the test paper.
Headmaster Chen swiftly went over to Teacher Li and took away the test paper from his hand.
“Teacher Li, have I not told you to weigh what is important? This is Princess Gu. What are you doing? This old man has decided to accept this student!”
Hearing this, Sheng Gu was pleased and wiped away her tears. She said to the old man, “Princess Gu thanks Headmaster Chen.”
Sheng Lingyun laughed, and exclaimed, “Good!”
Since the matter was dealt with, the Headmaster wanted to find someone to take Princess Gu to the Tenth Class. To their surprise, Sheng Lingyun took the initiative to volunteer. “I know the way. Let This Prince take my niece to Master Gao’s classroom.”
Teacher Li laughed coldly. “Didn’t Seventh Prince say that even at the cost of your life, you would not listen to the lessons of us poor old men of the Yulin Academy? “
Sheng Lingyun’s mouth twitched, as he replied, “Obviously, the Emperor’s words were helpful. This Prince, having changed my mind, will listen to the teachings here for several days.”
Sheng Lingyun naturally wouldn’t say that his reason was that bookish little girl.
Sheng Gu, however, in her naivete thought that Sheng Lingyun wanted to go to the Tenth Class for her sake, and so she felt delighted.
