Chapter 92: Gone Astray (part 2)

Leave a Comment / Rehabilitating the Villainess / By Goblin / December 27, 2023

I hadn’t had the chance to go there until now because Shael didn’t want to let me be alone that often. So now that I had the chance, it became my first destination.

When Shael and Duke Jespen were so far away that they couldn’t be seen, I retrieved a camouflage magic tool from my magic pouch—a device designed to alter my appearance, and erase my presence as much as possible, so that no one would recognize me.

Unless you were a super strong person, recognizing me, even if you saw my face, would be impossible.

After that, I hastened my steps.

The entrance to the black market, cunningly disguised as an ordinary diner, finally came into view. I entered and greeted the proprietor at the counter.

“What would you like to eat?”

“I want to savor honey rabbit and enjoy some strawberry wine.”

“Oh, you can head down there for that.”

Fortunately, it unfolded just as I had read. As the password was apt, the proprietor pointed towards the hallway beyond the counter.

To be extra careful, I even wore a mask.

As I traversed the hallway indicated by the proprietor, I beheld countless people.

There were more people than I had anticipated.

‘Most of the people who use the black market are wealthy merchants or unscrupulous nobles.’

Given that it was right after the banquet hall opened, the black market was bound to be teeming with people. Perhaps the Crown Prince could also be blending in with this massive crowd.

A gambling hall, a tavern, a black market where secret items could be bought and sold—these were the establishments the Crown Prince had established.

Regrettably, I also had to engage in transactions in this place.

I pondered my options and pressed forward.

[Shael’s POV]

Eran’s dependable figure blurred into the distance.

Soon, Eran became so distant that Shael couldn’t discern him.

“Finally….”

“…?”

“I can spend time with my adorable daughter…”

It was Duke Jespen. He wore a joyous smile that could bring tears to one’s eyes.

Unfortunately, Shael didn’t reciprocate that smile.

“Provide me with some camouflage artifacts.”

“Camouflage artifact? Are you playing hide and seek?”

“Even magic that obliterates traces.”

That’s what Shael uttered with a sigh.

However, Duke Jespen couldn’t resist finding it endearing. He handed the camouflage artifact to Shael without inquiring why. He also bestowed upon Shael the magic that erased signs.

Poof!

Shael’s hair color shifted, and her appearance changed so dramatically that even Duke Jespen couldn’t recognize her. Yet, in Duke Jespen’s eyes, she remained cute.

Next, Duke Jespen witnessed Shael’s retreating back.

Shael, who had turned away coldly, hurried in the direction Eran had taken.

“I’ll be back in a little while.”

“Sha, Shael? Me, me too…”

Giving no response, Shael left Duke Jespen behind and pursued Eran.

While Duke Jespen chased after Shael, that was inconsequential to her. The crucial matter was the destination Eran was hastening towards.

As his lover, Shael had always been fixated on observing Eran. She kept her eyes on his gestures, postures, and even the most minute changes in his expression.

That’s why she noticed…

‘As expected.’

She had suspected that something was fishy, and it turned out to be true. Eran was planning on doing something on his own as he utilized his camouflage tools.

‘A restaurant?’

‘Did he plan to find a decent restaurant on his own? Then why would he need a camouflage tool to enter a restaurant?’

However, Shael was able to find out the reason soon after.

Eran exchanged some words at the counter, and entered a seemingly suspicious hallway.

Actually, it was an unremarkable hallway, but to Shael, it appeared extremely suspicious.

In the end, Shael followed Eran into the restaurant.

The proprietor addressed Shael, “What would you like to eat?”

“Cupcakes.”

“Yes? Our restaurant doesn’t offer desserts.”

Then it was an ordinary restaurant.

Shael pointed to the hallway where Eran had just entered and said, “I want to go in there.”

“Ah! That’s a place only employees can access.”

Chrang!

Shael didn’t respond to the proprietor’s words with words. Instead, the sound of gold coins scattering on the checkout counter was heard—signifying that it was by no means a small amount.

“Uh, huh…?”

“Not enough?”

“Oh no! If this is enough… I’ll let you in. But you’d better wear this mask.”

Wearing the mask she was handed, Shael swiftly walked down the hallway where Eran had entered.

A throng of people.

Facilities that didn’t match their outward appearance. It was a facility that even the unsuspecting Shael would find suspicious.

Shael’s eyes gleamed, and she commenced searching for Eran.

He had used a camouflage tool, but Shael had already seen Eran after he had used it. So there was no way that Shael wouldn’t be able to find him.

And soon, Shael was able to locate Eran.

“Haa?”

Shael’s sighed, flabbergasted at the sight of the place where Eran had entered.

It was a gamb*ling house.

Shael hurriedly moved her steps, as she intensified the magic that Duke Jespen had given her and changed her appearance of the mask.

It was time to catch her fiance on the verge of straying.

And, she had to discipline her errant fiance.
