The air vibrated with a high pitched wail, strong enough to make the ruins around us crumble into a fine veil of dust.

In the midst of this chaos, Mayuri Kurotsuchi looked eerily calm, a twisted smile playing at the corners of his lips as his Bankai was reduced to a light show in front of him. His hand, swift but steady, took out from his robe’s pockets a dozen of small obsidian marbles.

“I see. I must admit, your speed has surpassed my initial estimations based on your early fight against the other Espadas.” Mayuri analyzed the situation with unfocused eyes. “I will need to adjust my preparations to capture such an extraordinary specimen.”

I glanced at Mayuri's hands, my muscles growing tense as I awaited his next move. He was the kind of scientist that was always ready for all kinds of situations.

Still, I couldn’t help but smile at his foolish expression. His confidence had taken a hit, that much I could sense from his strained smile.

That Cero was far from being my best shot, and he knew it.

I chuckled. “Ah! You must have analyzed my spiritual pressure from the bacteria you had infecting the Quincy kid traveling with Ichigo Kurosaki, right?

I couldn’t help but smile at his widening eyes, the muscle around my mouth straining as I forced my cheeks to not do so.

“But here's where your calculations are wrong, I was holding myself back then in order to not hurt the others' arrancars.” I clarified, a purple and green aura surrounding me and pressuring his pitiful one. “I don’t need to do so with you, Shinigami!”

However, before I could make my move, the marbles held in his hands sprang into action and deployed around us, embedding themselves into the sand.

It happened in the blink of an eye, leaving me with little time to react.

My eyes darted around as the marbles expanded. Such a fast speed for a tool meant that it was specifically designed to deal with speed types enemies, like me.

Then, the marbles started to turn into long gray pillars. The sandy terrain beneath them sank into holes as they released a special field around them.

Suddenly, my red wings became heavier, making it hard to move them, my tail-like armor became cumbersome, making my movements. And the next thing I knew was a suffocating pressure, as if the weight of the world itself bore down upon my body, enveloping me from everywhere.

In contrast, Mayuri looked to be okay from the outside, the only show of discomfort was a wince after a beep-like sound started to emanate from within the confines of his clothes.

“How utterly vexing!” Mayuri complained, his irritation palpable as he patted down his chest, successfully silencing the annoying noise. “This is what happens when a scientist has to work outside his lab, a mere byproduct of insufficient time for preparation.”

Locking his gaze with mine, Mayuri unleashed a defiant glare, his right index finger pointed in my direction.“Now, we stand on equal footing in terms of speed.”

He continued, explaining clearly what he was doing, exposing his twisted sense of humor.

“I have manipulated the very gravity surrounding us through these ingenious devices, increasing 500 times the normal force, all while countering its effects with a device ingeniously integrated within my own flesh.”

That explained the beeping sound, the guy wouldn’t take any chances of losing that device to the enemy. Ruthless to oneself, and even more ruthless to the enemies seemed to be this guy motto.

It was a demetend mind I have to destroy.

Ignoring him, I flexed my hands, and couldn’t help discovering how sluggish they felt. This increased gravity certainly would hinder my movements. I could already sense a growing strain in my legs, while the back of my head was already sweating from the exertion.

A chuckle burst forth from within me.

“This is certainly good. Oh! I would have wished to have the opportunity to train under such conditions. It would have proven a great help.” I laughed out, feeling pleased with myself. “Not that it matters!”

With a burst of Sonido, I shot like a bolt of lightning, my armor discarded and scattered along the way to decrease the burden on my body.

My muscles cramped from the sudden weight change, sending flares of pain all over my body.

I endured it with a wince.

“How to deal with your pesky Hierro…”

Mayuri was still absorbed in his monologue when he noticed my move.

Unfortunately for him, I moved with a speed that exceeded even his wildest expectations. Before he had the time to blink, much less respond, I was already upon him.

A sensation akin to that of a bag of cream bursting traveled through my arm as my arm pulverized the whole right side of Mayuri’s torso. His arm, torn, soared through the air like a fish out of the water.

“I warned you, Mayuri!” I declared. “You should have paid more attention to my resurrección!”

Omake: Eerie smile

Isane Kotetsu stumbled forward, her weary steps coming to an abrupt halt as she returned from tending to the injured.

Her captain, Unohana Retsu, waited patiently for her with a serene smile and crescent eyes.

“Have you completed the healing for Abarai, Isane?” Unohana questioned her ragged looking subordinate.

Isane took a moment to gather her breath, airing her chest while looking out for perverts.

“Yes, Captain Unohana!” She replied. “Reattaching his arm proved challenging, but I managed to expedite the process. We will ensure proper care and rehabilitation back in Soul Society.”

“I see…”

Unohana's response was cut short by an abrupt surge of power emanating from the direction of Captain Mayuri's battle.

Feeling the immense power, Unohana's chest began to tighten, her heart quickening its rhythm. Her hand instinctively tightened its grip on the hilt of her zanpakuto.

“Such incredible spiritual pressure…”

Unohana murmured softly to herself, her demeanor transforming as a dark, eerie smile spread across her lips.
