Chapter 18

A few days later, an unseasonable storm struck, and it continued to rain like a waterfall in the Count’s yard.

As I had no choice but to work out in the entrance hall, swinging a broom, a man came in with rough footsteps.

He wore an all-black suit and square glasses…

“Eh, aren’t you the teacher from the academy? What’s wrong?”

“It’s not what’s the matter, I came here today to complain about you!”

He was arrogant towards me, though not as much as when we first met. I guess he didn’t like me.

“Since you came to the academy, Kanon has been skipping classes. The other children don’t take the training seriously and start playing with magic on their own to practice your magic. How are you going to take responsibility for this?”

“Don’t say that. Wasn’t it because the class was boring?”

Forcing a child of that age into an institution and forcing them to undergo training.

I thought that was a bit unreasonable to start with.

The teacher’s face turned distorted, and he ridiculed Ram.

“Please don’t be silly. That is an important training that has been passed down in the academy! Are you trying to taunt the Mercure family?”

“I am not. There’s no point in doing so. Wait, you’re saying that they’ve been practicing that trivial training for several generations?”

The teacher, looking unamused, lifted the rims of her glasses.

“I’m afraid I can’t keep up with the antics of a naive and bored lady. Kanon is the next Count of Mercure, you know? If you know how to act like a wise Countess, I would appreciate it if you would back off and not let him learn to play stupid games.”

First off, why was he even looking up at me?

(You’re Kanon’s teacher, not mine, aren’t you?)

In a previous life, my teacher was a very messed up person.

“Know what? There’s no such thing as stupid or smart magic. The distinction between right magic and playful magic is different for everyone. What may seem meaningless at first glance can lead to great results when you get right down to it…I don’t think that kind of research is uncommon in the world of magic.”

“I’m sorry, but I don’t understand what Countess is talking about. Who in the world is researching magic? The type of magic and how to use it are all predetermined.”

I took a deep breath.

I was speaking from the perspective of 500 years ago, but as the teacher said, magic today was just a tool to be used according to a set pattern.

“I understand your point of view. In fact, I’ve only seen part of your class.”

“Hmm, I hope you understand…”

“So I’m going to visit your class at the academy! I want to see more of your important, non-dumb training.”

“Wha…!?”

The teacher’s face once again distorted as he opened his mouth, apparently having not expected my suggestion.

Even with that look on his face, I have no intention of retracting my plan.

I believed it was only natural for parents to want to see their children’s classwork…

“It’s not like you’re teaching a class you wouldn’t want to be seen in, is it?”

As we were talking, a voice came down from the stairs at the end of the entrance hall.

“Well, that sounds interesting. Count me in.”

I turned around and found Shar looking at me seriously.

Perhaps his sermons have had an effect on him, but lately he’s been taking a lot of interest in the mansion and frequently making arounds.

“Oh, do you want to visit the class, too? Shar?”

“I’m worried about my heir apparent.”

The teacher began to flatter Shar, a complete change from his treatment toward me.

“Sure. Please come and visit us. We’re planning on doing some extracurricular training once the storm stops.”

I couldn’t help but feel an indescribable emotion at the teacher’s sudden change of attitude.

However, I looked forward to going to see the extracurricular training, so I decided to wait for that day.
