The pair walked out of the garden. Mu Rulan took note of the police cars flashing their lights without sound as they surrounded the garden and looked at Mo Qianren. “Do you think they would take anyone in the garden hostage?”

“As long as those dunderheads act fast, they won’t be able to get a hostage in time.”

Which meant that it was a possibility. Translated by The Novelst

“If that’s the case, is it alright? Maybe you had the chance to prevent this from happening,” Mu Rulan said.

“That’s only a possibility. Every industry has their own duties. I’m not a policeman and I’ve already fulfilled my obligation as a human by notifying the related parties when I noticed an unusual situation,” Mo Qianren explained.

He looked at Mu Rulan, her figure reflected in his eyes. “In this world, there’s no law that states a witness to a murder should rush forth to capture the criminal at any cost.

“You should know that though you might be called a hero in the end, you can also be called an idiot who tried to rescue someone and was killed instead. There are many bad people who use human kindness to do evil, so you should first ensure your own safety and provide a suitable amount of assistance. That’s already sufficient.”

She stared quietly at Mo Qianren before shifting her gaze forwards, a smile at the corner of her mouth. She thought, she finally knew why she liked to stay by this person’s side.

Mo Qianren stared thoughtfully at Mu Rulan for a while before slowly moving away his gaze.

“Where are we going now?” Mu Rulan asked softly as they crossed a crosswalk.

Mo Qianren hesitated a moment. It was only two in the afternoon. Where should they go?

His highly intelligent brain processed quickly. Should they watch a movie? Ah, a movie that provided no value and had actors that had contradictory body language and lines, hurting his eyes. A playground? Mu Rulan wouldn’t want to go somewhere so childish. Shopping? What was the meaning of walking down the street if it wasn’t to exercise their legs?

Before he could think of a meaningful location to go to, he felt a tug on his sleeve. He turned to see Mu Rulan holding a flyer. On top of the paper there was a scary ghost staring eerily at him. “Let’s go watch this~”

Horror movies, and especially those with ghosts, Mu Rulan liked the most.

……

Time passed quickly. Ke Wanqing frowned when she returned home to see Bai Suqing watching television. Mu Zhenyang was cooking in the kitchen. “When did you come back?”

Bai Suqing quick-wittedly went over to take Ke Wanqing’s bag, asking her to sit down. Massaging her shoulders, she responded, “This afternoon. Initially, I was planning to visit you at the company but Uncle Zhou said you were very busy so I shouldn’t go and bother you.”

Ke Wanqing felt soothed as she was massaged and her brows slowly smoothed out.

Bai Suqing observed her expression and took out a present from under the table, smiling sweetly. “I have received a lot of care from Aunt Ke. This is something I saw as I was passing by and it suits Aunt Ke very well. Not sure if you will like it.”

Every woman enjoyed receiving gifts. Ke Wanqing was no exception. She took it from Bai Suqing and said, “You could have just returned. There’s no need for a gift.”

She opened the box to reveal a ruby necklace. The gem was as large as a pigeon egg, so beautiful that the corners shone under the light. Just looking at it, she could tell it was expensive.

Women tended to like this sort of thing, not only because of pride but because women liked beautiful things in nature, whether it be flowers or jewelry.

Bai Suqing saw the smile on Ke Wanqing’s face and she glanced at the kitchen. Mu Zhenyang immediately put down the spatula in his hand.

He smiled as he walked close to his wife. “Qing Qing is such a sensible child. Wanqing, didn’t you say this last time? Bai Xue’s daughter is also your daughter? Why don’t we adopt Qing Qing, such a good girl.”

Ke Wanqing did not respond, her eyes on the red ruby as her fingers ran over the edges of the gem.

Ke Wanqing didn’t say anything. Mu Zhenyang and Bai Suqing exchanged a glance and Bai Suqing smiled encouragingly at him. So Mu Zhenyang stretched out his hand to pat gently at Ke Wanqing’s shoulder. “Wanqing, Qing Qing…”

He was interrupted by the ruby flying by his face, the corner of the gem scratching his face.

The hard stone hit the ground solidly before the room cooled into silence.

The atmosphere became extremely tense in just an instant. Translated by The Novelst

Bai Suqing’s eyes were wide as she stared disbelievingly at the change in Ke Wanqing’s attitude.

W-Why? She had already investigated thoroughly and learned that Ke Wanqing preferred this kind of gem the most. She and Mu Zhenyang had also used this stone to swear an oath when they were married.

By all rights this gift should have rekindled the romance between Ke Wanqing and Mu Zhenyang. Her heart should have melted to water by now! But how come…

Mu Zhenyang covered his face and groaned in pain. Glaring, he said, “What are you doing?!”

Ke Wanqing glared right back with cold eyes. “What am I doing? Shouldn’t I be asking you that?! Qing Qing, adopted? Don’t even dream about it!”

His voice got interrupted by the ruby gem suddenly smashing over, the corner of the gem caused a scratch on Mu Zhenyang’s face.

Ke Wanqing grabbed a cup of hot water and splashed Bai Suqing with it. Bai Suqing was unable to react in time and took a few steps back but was still unable to evade it entirely, shouting in pain after a little water splashed on her.

“Qing Qing!” Mu Zhenyang’s expression changed and he quickly moved to check her injury.

Ke Wanqing saw what was happening in front of her and her face turned red in anger. She gritted her teeth. “You foxy little b*tch! My biggest mistake in life was first, getting married to Mu Zhenyang, and second, letting you enter our house!”
