Mu Rulan had a surprised look on her face as she turned to Chen Hai. Seeing the look on her face, he interpreted it to mean that she was trying to hide this, so he explained quickly, “U-Uh… Miss, please don’t worry. I’m just asking, I don’t have any other intentions. Mo Qianren… He seems like a good person, and both of you are very well-matched…”

It was just that his background was terrible, he didn’t deserve Mu Rulan! And according to Uncle Bao, that person had even snuck into Mu Rulan’s house before. What a strange man. He couldn’t help but worry for Mu Rulan.

“Is that so?” She blinked innocently. Translated by The Novelst

Did she really look so well-matched to Mo Qianren? Mn… That was surprising. And now that he was on her mind, she remembered the last time when she had asked about his job, he said he was working at a mental hospital. Then this year when she went to Hong Kong she could pay a visit. She wanted to have a glimpse at how it really was. Who knew if that was where she belonged.

Mu Rulan seemed to have missed the point. Chen Hai saw that she didn’t deny it, so he immediately became anxious. As he drove, he kept thinking about how to warn Mu Rulan not to be deceived, but he couldn’t find the right words. And even past that, he was struggling with himself on whether or not to report this matter to Grandpa Ke.

Chen Hai was so immersed in his own thoughts that he didn’t notice that there was a car following them.

Jin Biaohu stared at Mu Rulan’s car, knowing that she was no ordinary person. She had been chosen by the country, and involving others might cause the operation to fail, so he was alone.

Mu Rulan asked Chen Hai to park outside the gate and she went in alone. Chen Hai and Uncle Bao stood together, watching her figure fade into the distance, expressions like a father watching his daughter being deceived by a jerk, but unable to do anything about it.

The surroundings were very quiet. Bai Suqing had run out in the middle of the night yesterday, and Uncle Bao had been sleeping inside the security kiosk then. Bai Suqing had opened the iron gate herself as she tried to run away. That was when he had woken up.

He had been confused for a moment until he remembered that Bai Suqing was the one who had stayed in Mu Rulan’s house. He had walked curiously in and cursed to see that the door to the house and gates were all left wide open. He had cursed unhappily and closed it all up.

He thought then that this child had no manners at all, leaving the doors open when she left the house.

Mu Rulan opened the gate, smiling to see her house.

Her living room was a little messy. It looked like someone had cooked noodles and hadn’t cleaned up after themselves, dirty plates left on the table with a few apple cores beside them.

“Hm,” Mu Rulan looked at the apple cores, a smile at the edges of her mouth.

Hoho… She really took it as her own house, huh? Hadn’t anyone told her not to eat apples from strangers, especially apples from a witch’s house?

Mu Rulan cleaned the table and washed the plates, wiping her hands and then going upstairs.

The dark red carpet had shifted quite a bit. It looked like Bai Suqing had fallen and pulled the carpet along yesterday.

When she finally reached the next floor, the scary sound at the window appeared again. Her expression didn’t change at all, and she walked all the way to the last room at the end of the hallway.

Creak…

The door wasn’t shut, so it creaked open by itself before she could push it open. Inside, she could see the wardrobe and the figure of a man, or perhaps she should say a human puppet doll that had fallen out of the wardrobe. Countless threads were scattered on the floor.

The knocking continued in the room non-stop. She hummed as she walked over to the doll. Instead of picking him up, she opened the other door to the wardrobe. Inside, there was another human puppet with a twisted expression looking painfully at Mu Rulan. Fear and terror were written all over his face.

“Good afternoon,” Mu Rulan greeted, before bending his legs and turning off the alarm that was making the knocking sound.

It was a special alarm clock. It had special settings that allowed her to set the alarm in a few hours’ time, and let her automate it to stop on its own for half an hour, and start again. It was automatic.

Just as Mo Qianren had said, Mu Rulan was a psycho. She liked to purposefully create mysteries and scare people off. Well, she had no choice. There were no ghosts in this world so she had to do all this by herself to satisfy her desires, ya.

She heard someone knock on the door downstairs.

She stilled for a moment, before her smile deepened. She did not go and open the door immediately, instead choosing to pick up the doll on the floor. Because she had drained all the blood from his body, she could still pick him up even though the man was much taller than her.

Jin Biaohu had a utility knife hidden in his sleeve. He continuously looked around as he knocked on the door. Though there were several trees in the area and a lot of distance between houses, he was still anxious.

Hurry up, open the door! Translated by The Novelst

After a while, he heard movement inside the house.

Jin Biaohu gripped the knife tightly, various scenarios flashing through his mind.

Once Mu Rulan opened the door, he would pounce immediately and stab her in the neck. But that didn’t seem like enough for how much he had suffered in prison. Could he let her die so easily?

His backup plan was to restrain her once she opened the door and not allow her to scream. He would abuse her until she was bruised and battered and then he would send her off for good!
